Chapter 51 The Cold War (One Day)
Biochemical pregnancy usually does not present with typical pregnancy symptoms. It is a spontaneous abortion in which the early embryo stops developing and is expelled with menstrual flow.
Lin Ke bit her lip, her eyes reddening.
In other words, a small life did indeed exist briefly.
It did exist, but it didn't survive.
Her heart clenched, and she felt a pang of sadness.
Si Yuming put down the examination report and hugged Lin Ke. Lin Ke tried to push him away, but the more she pushed, the tighter he hugged her. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry..."
Lin Ke gave up struggling and leaned on his shoulder.
Around 3 PM, the fever subsided, and I was discharged from the hospital and went home.
Si Yuming didn't leave, Zhang Man stayed at a hotel, and Lin Ke didn't have the energy to care about their affairs. After arriving home, she lay down on the bed and took a nap.
I can't sleep well; one nightmare after another, and I wake up covered in sweat.
But perhaps after sweating, my heavy body felt lighter, and my energy and spirit were restored a bit.
The aroma of porridge and stir-fried vegetables wafted from outside, and my rumbling stomach, which had been growling since last night, kept bubbling.
Footsteps sounded, and Lin Ke grabbed the blanket, turned her back to the door, and continued to pretend to be asleep.
The man sat down on the edge of the bed, his voice gentle: "Wife, are you awake?"
She didn't respond, so he gently patted her shoulder. "Get up and eat something first. Didn't you skip lunch?"
Lin Ke stirred, pulling her hand away from his, her voice muffled by the blanket, "I'm not hungry."
After a moment of silence behind him, he said helplessly, "Then I'll keep it warm for you, you can eat it when you're hungry."
Si Yuming got up and went out. Lin Ke looked back, just as he turned around to close the door, and she immediately shrank back.
Once the noise outside subsided, she turned on the light, took out her phone, and texted Aunt Chen to ask if Si Xiaotie was asleep.
Aunt Chen said not yet, so she called.
"Mother!"
Lin Ke lay back down in bed, put her phone to her ear, and tried to make her voice sound relaxed, "Why isn't the baby asleep yet?"
The girl's soft, sweet voice said, "I'm thinking about my mom."
Lin Ke felt much more relaxed after hearing this. "Really, Mommy is thinking about the baby too."
"Mom, are you feeling better? Dad said you weren't feeling well and he was going to come find you. Have you seen Dad yet?"
Lin Ke: "I saw her. Mom is fine. Xiao Tie, don't worry."
"Okay! Mom, wear lots of clothes, eat your fill, and don't get sick."
"Okay, baby, make sure you wear lots of clothes and eat well too." Lin Ke didn't want to hang up. "What story would you like to hear, baby? Mommy will tell you."
"Hmm..." Si Xiaotie went to school today, and Gu Yiyi told her how his parents met. He said that his mother went to his father's restaurant to eat, and his mother liked his father's cooking very much. Then they got together, and that's how Gu Yiyi came to be. She also wanted to know how her parents met, so she said, "I want to hear the story of my parents."
"The story of Dad and Mom?"
"Yes, how did Mom and Dad meet, and how did they get pregnant?"
Lin Ke was speechless for a few moments before saying, "My parents have known each other since they were little."
"When you were even younger than Xiao Tie?"
"Yes, Dad is three years older than Mom. Mom has known Dad since she was born."
The girl over there exclaimed excitedly, "Wow!"
Lin Ke slowly said, "Back then, Grandma was still alive, and Baby's grandparents, who are also Dad's parents, were also alive. We all lived in one big house. But your dad wasn't very likable back then. He had a bit of a fierce and grumpy face, and Mom didn't want to play with him."
Si Xiaotie listened intently: "Hehe, you stinky dad."
"But your dad was very handsome when he was a child, and he was also very smart and knew everything."
"Smarter than Xiao Tie?"
Lin Ke couldn't help but laugh: "It seems so, she's a little bit smarter than Xiao Tie."
"snort."
"Actually, your dad is quite nice when he's not being cold. He'll secretly bring candy for your mom. Once, when he and your grandpa went out of town, he brought me a dog plush toy when he came back."
Really?
"Yes, but later my grandmother passed away, and my mother moved out to live elsewhere. When she moved, the little dolls disappeared, and my mother rarely saw my father anymore."
"ah....."
"After a long, long time, my parents met again, got married, and had our little iron baby."
Whether Si Xiaotie understood or not, she kept up the mood, her excited voice making it easy to imagine her raising her hand in joy on the other end of the phone, "Xiaotie's coming!"
"That's right."
"Thank you, Mom!"
Lin Ke asked in surprise, "Why are you thanking Mom?"
"Thank you, Mom and Dad, for getting married and having our little Iron Baby!"
Touched by the child's words, her eyes welled up with tears. "Mommy also thanks Xiao Tie, thank you Xiao Tie for being Mommy and Daddy's baby."
"Hehe, Mom, you're welcome."
After chatting for a few minutes and hanging up, Lin Ke was no longer sleepy and stared blankly at the ceiling.
Not long after, Si Yuming knocked on the door again and came in, carrying food in his hands.
This time, Lin Ke didn't dodge; she looked straight ahead.
After exchanging a few glances, he looked away first, placed the porridge and vegetables on the bedside table, and said gently, "Eat some."
Lin Ke was starving and stopped trying to resist, so she ate obediently.
He didn't leave; he sat down beside her and quietly watched her eat.
He waited until he finished eating before speaking: "Wife."
Lin Ke paused, then said directly, "I don't want to hear it now."
She was angry, disappointed in him, and also felt conflicted about the life that had been lost. She needed some time to sort out her feelings.
Like any difficult moment before when no one was there to help her, she needed time to process things on her own.
Si Yuming didn't insist on continuing. He tucked the blanket around himself, picked up his rice bowl, went out, and closed the door behind him.
The late autumn night in Moscow was quiet and desolate.
Only one light was on in the living room, casting a dim, yellowish glow, and the man's silhouette on the sofa was blurred.
Si Yuming sat quietly, browsing through the precautions and follow-up care information for biochemical pregnancies on his phone, page after page.
I finished washing up around midnight and went into the room. The bedroom light was off, and I was lying on the bed, my breathing steady.
He lifted the covers from behind her, got into bed, and pulled her into a hug.
The sleeping woman forgot that she was still angry and upset. She hummed twice, turned around, and lay down in his arms, hugging his waist.
Si Yuming kissed the top of her head and said, "Goodnight."
......
Lin Ke woke up first the next morning. Her eyes were quicker than her brain. She was overjoyed to see him, but when the other opened his eyes and they met, she remembered something. Her smile froze as she was about to say good morning. She "coldly" let go of the smelly hand that was still holding him and "coldly" got out of bed.
The small house didn't have a walk-in closet, and the bathroom was outside. Lin Ke went to the wardrobe to find the clothes she needed to wear to work today. As she was about to take off her pajamas, she turned around and said, "Close your eyes."
Si Yuming wasn't sure what she was feeling, so he didn't dare to say anything. He obediently closed his eyes, then quietly opened one halfway.
The overcast skies of the past few days cleared up today, and the warm morning sunlight slanted into the wardrobe, illuminating the back of a woman who had taken off her clothes in front of it.
Lin Ke has a small frame and a well-proportioned figure, but she is not disappointing in terms of being slim or curvy.
Her waist was slender and smooth, her shoulder blades resembled two slightly open butterfly wings, and her neck was delicate, with a rounded half-circle that rose when she turned to the side... All of this was bathed in a soft, hazy halo of sunlight, shimmering and sparkling.
As soon as the clothes were put on, the woman turned around, and Si Yuming immediately closed his eyes.
Lin Ke, now dressed in a new suit, asked, "Are you going to work today?"
"I already took a day off yesterday, so I can't take another day off today."
"Are you feeling unwell?"
"No."
The fever subsided yesterday, and her period cramps are gone. As for that little life... if it weren't for the fever, she probably wouldn't even know it had ever been there.
Lin Ke walked towards the kitchen, with Si Yuming following. "I cooked some porridge this morning. I'll heat it up for you. Is there anything else you want to eat? I saw some steamed buns in the fridge. I'll steam a couple for you."
Lin Ke did not refuse his hospitality, and turned around to sit at the table to wait for breakfast.
My phone, which I hadn't checked all night, now had a lot of messages from Zhang Man.
I didn't get a chance to ask her why she suddenly came over yesterday, so I replied to her message now, and the two of us chatted back and forth.
After we finished chatting, breakfast was brought over.
Lin Ke ate the porridge, steamed buns, and a cup of warm milk, taking some time to finish without saying a word to him.
As they went out, the man insisted on following, saying, "I'll see you off."
Lin Ke said coldly, "I don't need you to deliver it."
Helpless, the man took a step back.
She didn't reply to my messages the next day.
It was 3 PM at a small bar near the dormitory.
Meng Jing didn't know what had happened, but seeing that he had asked her to go out for drinks late in the afternoon, she guessed, "What's wrong? Did you have a fight with Lin Ke? Or is there a problem at the company?"
Si Yuming's expression was tense, and he didn't say anything.
Meng Jing offered him some wine, but he declined, saying, "I'll just have some water."
"You asked me to come out for a drink of water in broad daylight?"
"We need to go back later."
"Okay, you're awesome."
Meng Jing asked the bartender to replace the lemonade. "Tell me, what happened?"
The water is ice-cold, just right.
The slightly sour lemon water glides down my throat, relieving some of the restlessness in my body.
“Meng Jing…”
"Um?"
I called out once, but there was no response for a long time.
Three or four minutes later, I heard him ask again, "What kind of person is Yun Zheng?"
Meng Jing understood immediately and laughed, "Do you want to know what kind of person he is? Or do you want to know if he has a relationship with your wife?"
Si Yuming glanced at him and said, "I know it's okay."
"Of course it's okay. Even if you don't believe Yun Zheng, you should believe Lin Ke, right? Don't you know what kind of person she is?"
The man remained silent, and Meng Jing understood. She glanced at him and said, "Fine, no wonder people are angry with you. You... sigh, I really... never mind."
Si Yuming held his cup. "If Ning Shuxia had a... senior? Someone who is capable, handsome, has a good personality, works with Ning Shuxia, sees her every day, lives in the same building, and eats together from time to time, wouldn't you be worried?"
The man, who had been disappointed in his son just a moment ago, immediately tensed up.
After a moment, she gritted her teeth and said, "I will make this senior disappear."
"Can I make Yunzheng disappear?"
"......"
Si Yuming continued, "I believe her, but I can't control myself either."
Meng Jing looked over and suddenly smiled, "I know, you're jealous."
Let's just say that's it. Jealousy, worry, fear—these emotions surface whenever I see that man, and I feel powerless to stop them.
Adding to the fact that he had a biochemical pregnancy, she now considered him a dead end.
Meng Jing, who knew nothing, patted him on the shoulder and said, "Alright, it's nothing serious. Just go back and coax your wife and say some nice things to her."
Si Yuming tilted his head back and drank the last sip of lemonade, then asked the bartender for another glass. "How do I coax him?"
"..." Good question. Meng Jing might have been able to answer it before, but now he couldn't. "I also want to know how to coax her."
Two men sat side by side at the bar, raising their glasses intermittently.
What time do you get off work?
Meng Jing glanced at his watch. "Five o'clock, almost there."
Si Yuming put down his cup. "I'm leaving."
Meng Jing guessed that he was going to pick someone up, so he didn't stop him.
It takes a while to get from the pub to the embassy; there are many cars on the road, and it was already 5:20 when I arrived at the entrance.
I sent a message, but there was no reply.
He waited for about half an hour, then helplessly sent a message to Si Xiaotie: "Baby, Mommy is still working overtime and hasn't eaten. She just recovered from being sick."
Si Xiaotie, who was still awake, received the message and immediately texted his mother: "Mom, are you still at work? Have you eaten? Eat well, don't get sick."
Three minutes later, Si Yuming's phone lit up: [I'm having dinner with colleagues tonight, I won't be home.]
