Chapter 28 Rescuing Little Girl

The two of them thought to themselves that no matter what happened, they were still the little girl's biological parents.

What bad intentions could a biological father or mother possibly have towards their own child?

Whatever they do—whether they beat or scold her, force her to contribute to the family by using filial piety, or redeem her for ten coins when she grows up and exchange her for a dowry—isn't it all for the good of their child?

After all, a sapling won't grow straight if it's not pruned, and children need to be taught through scolding and beating.

After all, the host family is just the host family; the biological parents are the child's eternal support.

After all, what girl doesn't get married? And what girl doesn't ask her parents to receive a dowry when she gets married?

They are clearly very selfish, their minds are full of their own gains and losses, and everything they do, including having and raising children, is for their own benefit, but they will never admit it.

They distorted the facts with righteous indignation, demanding that the children repay their so-called kindness tenfold or a hundredfold.

There are even more bizarre so-called parents, such as Xie Wan's biological father, who will take it for granted that their children will fulfill certain "wishes" on their behalf, even if those "wishes" are things they themselves have struggled to achieve for most of their lives.

They deliberately ignore the harsh reality that they have played almost no positive role in their children's upbringing, and righteously rely on "I am your father/mother/grandfather/grandmother" to make outrageous and unbelievable demands.

It's as if, with their advantageous status, they could casually utter a single word and their child could undergo a genetic mutation through dreams, evolving from a tiny black mudfish into a dragon among men, and then rewarding them a thousandfold.

They are simply stupid and greedy, shameless and hypocritical, and one cannot help but feel disgusted whenever one thinks of them.

From a purely self-interested perspective, Xie Wanniang does not reject making equivalent exchanges with others, even if those "people" are her biological parents.

But she hates it when the other person gives "1", or even "0.0001", yet greedily wants to receive "10" while also expecting her to be grateful.

She is different from Xiaoya. Xiaoya is only five years old and has always lived in a relatively isolated mountain village, while she has already lived two lives, and in both lives she had little connection with her parents and was very knowledgeable.

With her adoptive father as a comparison, she could easily see through the ugly truth hidden behind the lies.

Shuanzi's parents were different from the foxes she had ever seen. Whatever they were thinking was written all over their faces. Otherwise, Xie Wanniang wouldn't have put on such a show in front of everyone after obtaining Xiaoya's indenture.

Now that she has made it clear beforehand, if Shuanzi's parents try anything funny again, she can rightfully ask the village head to help deal with them.

After taking the indenture written by the village head, Xie Wanniang bid farewell to the village head and the villagers, and accompanied Doctor Chen back to Jiang Yuan's home.

Xiao Ya's condition is not good. Dr. Chen has already told his sons that he will stay at Jiang Yuan's house tonight to keep an eye on Xiao Ya's condition.

His words quickly reached the ears of all the villagers present, and they began to discuss the matter. Some were worried about Xiaoya, some were disdainful of Xiaoya's parents, and some were concerned that Xie Wanniang might have wasted her money and then be extorted by Xiaoya's parents.

The villagers do enjoy watching the excitement and gossiping, but that doesn't mean they can't stand seeing others do well. The little girl is so tiny, and almost everyone in the village, young and old, is hoping she can pull through and survive.

The villagers didn't want Xie Wanniang, who was willing to lend a hand, to be treated badly.

After all, if Xie Wanniang were to be extorted by Xiaoya's parents because of a moment of kindness, regardless of whether the extortion attempt succeeded, she would certainly never lend a helping hand to villagers in need again.

Xie Wanniang was unaware of the villagers' thoughts. When she and Doctor Chen returned to Jiang Yuan's house, Daya was still tending the stove to brew medicine, while Erya took the half bowl of wine that Jiang Yuan had poured for her and was wiping away tears while wiping Xiaoya's ears, armpits, and other areas where her body was burning hot.

Hearing Doctor Chen talking to Jiang Yuan in the courtyard, Er Ya helped Xiao Ya get dressed and wiped away her tears one last time.

Doctor Chen first went to the kitchen to check on the medicine that was being decocted, and then he and Xie Wanniang went to Xiaoya's place one after the other.

The little girl still hadn't woken up, but her convulsions had significantly lessened, and her body temperature had dropped, indicating that Dr. Chen's acupuncture had been effective.

"Not bad. Judging from this trend, at least her life can be saved." After taking the girl's pulse and carefully checking her forehead temperature, Doctor Chen stroked his beard with satisfaction. "I will come back to take her pulse again in about half an hour after she finishes her medicine."

Xie Wanniang nodded, "Then you should go to sleep first. I'll wake you up when it's time."

After saying that, she looked at Er Ya and said, "You two sisters should go home too, while there are still villagers and torches outside."

It's already past midnight. If the two girls don't go back soon, who knows what their father will do to vent his anger on them?

Since Xiaoya can take care of her personally, and Jiang Yuan can help her brew the medicine, there's no need for these two girls to stay here any longer.

However, Er Ya and Daya didn't think so. Neither of the sisters wanted to leave, insisting on waiting until Xiao Ya was out of danger and woke up before they could leave.

Daya stirred the brewed medicine back and forth between two bowls until it cooled down to a palatable temperature before carefully bringing it over to feed Xiaoya.

Xiao Ya was still asleep when Xie Wan Niang saw her bring over a spoon and a bowl of medicine. She quickly turned Xiao Ya's head gently to one side and said, "Take a little bit each time, and after bringing it to Xiao Ya's mouth, slowly tilt the spoon so that the medicine can slowly flow into Xiao Ya's mouth."

This allows the patient's swallowing reflex to be used to naturally swallow the medicine, preventing it from entering the trachea.

Of course, during the feeding process, they also had to pay close attention to the little girl's reaction. If the little girl coughed, they had to stop immediately and continue to carefully feed her the medicine only after her breathing had stabilized.

Under Er Ya's anxious gaze, Daya, with her hands accustomed to rough work, steadily held the spoon and fed most of the bowl of medicine to Xiao Ya little by little.

Xiao Ya didn't cough or choke even once during the process. Even Xie Wanniang, who had a background in medical theory, had to admire the girl's steady hands and incredible patience.

After drinking the medicine, Xiaoya continued to sleep. Daya went back to the kitchen to wash the spoon and medicine bowl, while Erya continued to wipe Xiaoya's body with a cloth to lower her fever. Xie Wanniang thought that she would have to wake Doctor Chen up in about half an hour, so she did not go back to her room to sleep.

After Daya finished washing the spoons and bowls and came back to watch over Xiaoya with Erya, Xie Wanniang stood up, intending to give the three sisters some space.

However, before she could even lift her foot to leave, Daya pulled her younger sister Erya and knelt down at Xie Wanniang's feet with a thud.
