Years of grievances, anger, and shame poured out in this moment, turning into scalding tears that surged from the eyes of this man nearing fifty. He could no longer control himself, bending down to bury his face in his arms, letting out suppressed and painful sobs.

Su Wantang felt as if her heart was being gripped tightly by a hand, aching terribly. She didn't say anything, but simply reached out and gently patted her uncle's back, just like when he used to lull her to sleep when she was little.

Lu Linchuan stood silently to the side, shielding them from the cold wind blowing in from the courtyard gate. He looked at the uncle and nephew embracing each other, a trace of barely perceptible tenderness flowing through his deep eyes.

After crying for a long time, Qin Tian slowly calmed down. He wiped his face haphazardly with the back of his hand, straightened up, and although his face was still streaked with tears, the deathly stillness and despair in his eyes were replaced by a clarity of relief after surviving a catastrophe.

"I'm sorry to have made you all laugh." He spoke hoarsely, with a heavy nasal tone.

“Uncle, we are family,” Su Wantang said softly, taking a clean handkerchief from her pocket and handing it over.

Qin Tian took the handkerchief, but didn't wipe his face; instead, he clutched it tightly in his hand. He looked at Su Wantang, then at Lu Linchuan, and solemnly said, "This time, we owe you all a great debt. Linchuan, I will remember this kindness for the rest of my life. In the future, if there is anything I can do to help you, I, Qin Tian, will go through fire and water for you without hesitation!"

“Uncle, you’re too kind,” Lu Linchuan said in a deep voice. “You are Wan Tang’s only family. Protecting you is my duty.”

A simple sentence, yet it carries more weight than any promise.

Qin Tian was deeply moved. He nodded and said no more. He would spend the rest of his life repaying this kindness, a debt he couldn't express with words.

"Alright, it's cold outside, come inside," he urged, his voice regaining some of its former authority.

Back in the room, Su Wantang immediately poured Qin Tian a cup of boiling water. Qin Tian held the enamel cup in both hands, feeling the warmth flow from his palms to his heart, dispelling the lingering chill.

"I'll go and clean up everything in the house first thing tomorrow morning." Qin Tian took a sip of water, looked at the two of them, and said in an unquestionable tone, "Then you'll come home with me. That place can no longer be called the family compound; from now on, that will be our home."

Su Wantang and Lu Linchuan exchanged a glance and both saw the smile in each other's eyes.

"Okay." Su Wantang nodded vigorously.

“Oh, right,” Qin Tian seemed to remember something, and the warmth on his face froze for a moment. He put down his water glass, and his voice became somewhat heavy. “Before I go home, there is one more thing I must do.”

Neither Su Wantang nor Lu Linchuan asked what it was about. They knew that Qin Tian needed to personally put an end to this absurd past.

Qin Tian's gaze fell upon the deep night outside the window, his eyes filled with complex and sorrowful emotions.

"I have to see him off," he said softly, as if to himself. "After tomorrow, Xiao Feng will cease to exist in this world. No, it should be said that Qin Tian's son, Xiao Feng, will cease to exist tomorrow."

This seemingly random statement instantly made the atmosphere in the room incredibly heavy. Su Wantang's heart sank; she knew that for her uncle, the most painful separation had only just begun. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
