The more Qin Tian thought about it, the more cold sweat poured down his back.
If Li Xiumei's identity is truly questionable, then what was her purpose in infiltrating my inner circle for over a decade? Did she have access to my research materials? Did she convey any information to the outside world?
Thinking about all this, Qin Tian couldn't sit still.
"No, I must investigate immediately!" He stood up, his face grave. "This is no small matter. If she is..."
He didn't say the word aloud, but Su Wantang and Lu Linchuan both understood.
“Uncle, don’t rush.” Su Wantang pulled him back. “If you go to investigate now, you’ll only alert her. She just ran away from home, so she’ll definitely be on guard. Besides, what grounds will you use to investigate? Say that you suspect your wife is a spy? Without evidence, the organization won’t easily open a case for investigation.”
Lu Linchuan nodded in agreement: "Wantang is right. What we need now is evidence. Moreover, we don't know if she has an organization behind her. If we act rashly and alert her accomplices, they may immediately cut off all contact, destroy all evidence, and even... be detrimental to you."
Qin Tian calmed down.
He knew they were all right. He had been blinded by concern. This matter needed careful consideration.
"Then... what should we do now?" Qin Tian looked at the two young men in front of him, and without realizing it, he had come to regard them as his backbone.
Su Wantang looked at Lu Linchuan.
Lu Linchuan pondered for a moment and said, "From now on, we need to observe secretly. Although she has left, she will definitely come back or contact this family in other ways. Xiaofeng is still in school, and she can't hide outside with the child forever. She must have a place to stay and someone to contact her."
Su Wantang added, "Yes. We can start by checking her room. She's lived in this house for over ten years; it's impossible that she left no trace. Maybe we can find some letters, photos, or other suspicious items."
Qin Tian immediately agreed to the suggestion.
"That's right! Check her room!" Qin Tian slapped his thigh and immediately stood up. "Let's go, we'll go now!"
The three arrived at the door of Li Xiumei and Xiao Feng's room. Li Xiumei had left in a hurry, and the door was only slightly ajar.
Qin Tian pushed open the door, and a pungent, unpleasant smell wafted out.
The room was small and simply furnished: a bed, a large wardrobe, and a small desk. At that moment, the room was a mess. The wardrobe door was wide open, and clothes had been haphazardly pulled out and thrown everywhere. The bed and the floor were covered in a jumble of miscellaneous items.
Clearly, Li Xiumei had packed her things in a hurry, only taking what she considered most important, and leaving the rest behind.
"This woman..." Qin Tian looked at the mess and was furious. At home, she never liked to tidy up, making her room look like a pigsty.
“Let’s split up and search.” Lu Linchuan calmly assigned tasks. “Uncle, you check the wardrobe and bed. Wan Tang, you’re not feeling well, so just look around the desk area, be careful. I’ll check some corners and hidden places.”
"good."
The three of them immediately sprang into action.
Su Wantang walked to the desk. On it lay Xiao Feng's textbooks and notebooks, along with some odds and ends. She carefully flipped through them, hoping to find some clues.
Suddenly, her gaze was drawn to an inconspicuous notebook hidden beneath several books. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
