He's not stupid.
Just now, when Su Wantang took out the silver needles, Xiao Feng's quick movements and loud crying showed no signs of illness whatsoever. It was obvious that Li Xiumei was behind it all, trying to use the child to smear Wantang again.
"What am I thinking? What could I possibly be thinking?" Li Xiumei retorted, holding her son and sticking her neck out, without a trace of guilt on her face. "Xiaofeng just has a stomachache! It's because he ate the bread she gave him that it started hurting! Didn't you see how uncomfortable he was just now? If he hadn't been scared by that gleaming needle, would he have recovered so quickly? You, as his father, don't care about your own son, but instead side with an outsider!"
Her constant use of the word "outsider" deeply wounded Qin Tian's heart.
"Shut up!" Qin Tian roared, his chest heaving violently. "Wantang is my own niece! She's my savior! In this family, you and this unfilial son are the outsiders!"
The moment those words were spoken, the air in the room froze.
Li Xiumei stood frozen, as if struck by lightning, clutching her child. All color drained from her face, leaving it deathly pale. She couldn't believe her ears. Qin Tian had actually called her and her son outsiders?
Su Wantang stood aside, coldly watching the farce unfold. She knew perfectly well that Li Xiumei wouldn't learn her lesson unless she was thoroughly punished. If this matter wasn't resolved today, there would be even more trouble in the future. She was pregnant and didn't have the energy to waste on someone like this.
She gently tugged at Lu Linchuan's sleeve.
Lu Linchuan remained like an ice sculpture from beginning to end, standing beside Su Wantang with a gaze so cold it could shatter ice. He only cared about Su Wantang; as long as she was alright, he couldn't be bothered with other people's troubles. But now, Li Xiumei's repeated provocations of his wife had crossed his bottom line.
Receiving a look from his wife, Lu Linchuan took a step forward. He was tall and upright, and the imposing aura he exuded from his years of military service instantly enveloped the entire room.
He didn't look at Li Xiumei, but stared at Qin Tian, his voice low but carrying an unquestionable tone of command: "Uncle, I need an explanation for this matter. My wife is pregnant and cannot be falsely accused and humiliated like this again and again."
His words weren't harsh, but every single one struck Qin Tian's heart like a hammer blow.
Qin Tian's face burned with shame. He was a grown man, a government official, and he couldn't even handle his own family affairs, letting his niece and nephew-in-law suffer such humiliation in his own home.
"Linchuan, Wantang, it's your uncle's fault." Qin Tian took a deep breath, turned around, his eyes turning completely cold, devoid of any semblance of marital affection. "Li Xiumei, haven't you made enough of a scene?"
Li Xiumei was startled by Lu Linchuan's imposing manner, and upon hearing Qin Tian's words, which were almost an ultimatum, the fear and resentment in her heart intertwined, making her even more frantic.
"I'm causing trouble? Qin Tian, explain yourself! Who's causing trouble here!" she shrieked. "Ever since your 'good niece' came, has there been any peace in this house? You gave her money, and now you're hitting her so hard for even your son making a small mistake! Do you even care about me and Xiaofeng anymore?"
"You still have the nerve to mention money?" Qin Tian was so angry he laughed. "The money I gave Wan Tang was money I gave willingly! It was compensation! Li Xiumei, stop making trouble here!"
He pointed to the door: "If you can't stand staying in this house, get out now! Take your ill-mannered son with you!" (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
