"Try it."

Su Wantang opened her mouth, and the warm soup slid into her throat. First, there was a strong sour taste that made her frown instantly, but the sourness quickly passed, followed by the sweet taste of rock sugar melting, with a long aftertaste.

"How is it?" Lu Linchuan asked nervously.

“…Delicious.” Su Wantang’s dark almond-shaped eyes sparkled as she took another spoonful.

He fed her spoonful by spoonful, and she drank it sip by sip. The small house was quiet, with only the soft sound of the spoon hitting the rim of the bowl. The flickering lamplight cast long shadows of the two of them, who were nestled intimately together. After finishing the bowl of hawthorn soup, Su Wantang's cheeks were flushed, whether from the heat or something else, it was hard to tell.

She felt as if she were soaking in a jar of honey, warmed from the inside out.

She put the unpleasant things that happened during the day behind her.

The man in front of her made her feel at ease and secure.

The next day, Lu Linchuan went to the post office and bought envelopes and stamps.

He sat at the table, spread out a letter paper, and began writing to his parents, who lived far away in Shanghai. Su Wantang watched quietly from the side.

His writing is steady and his characters are strong and powerful.

"Dad, Mom, this letter is like a personal message. Wan Tang and I have arrived safely in the Northwest. Everything is fine, so please don't worry..."

He didn't mention any unpleasantness at the Qin family's place, only saying that Su Wantang had found her long-lost uncle here, the family had reunited, and her uncle's family treated her very well and took good care of her. He also specifically mentioned that Wantang was very happy, her health was improving, and the baby in her womb was also healthy.

Su Wantang felt a surge of warmth in her heart as she looked at the "very good" and "very happy" that he had so casually mentioned. This man was always like this, shielding her from all the storms and only letting her see the most peaceful and sunny days.

After finishing the letter, Lu Linchuan carefully packed the Northwest specialties he had specially asked someone to buy, which Li Xiumei had previously accused of "wasting money." The items included dried beef, large red dates, and local specialty milk skin.

He packed these items and letters into a large package and carefully wrote down the address in Shanghai.

“I’m sending these back today,” he said, looking up at Su Wantang. “I want my parents to have a taste of these. They’ll be so happy to see the gifts their daughter-in-law prepared for them.”

"Mmm." Su Wantang smiled.

The atmosphere at home remained cold that day.

Su Wantang sat at the dining table eating bread.

Xiao Feng sat alone on a small stool, looking at her longingly.

"Can I have a bite of this bread?" Xiao Feng looked at her expectantly.

She sighed inwardly; the child was innocent. She handed him a brand new piece of bread: "Eat."

Xiao Feng glanced at her, took it, and began to eat it in large mouthfuls.

But just a few minutes later, Xiao Feng suddenly clutched her stomach and started rolling around on the ground.

"Ouch... my stomach hurts... my stomach hurts so much..."

Li Xiumei rushed out of the inner room like a gust of wind, grabbed Xiao Feng, and when she saw the half-eaten bread left in his hand, she immediately screamed at Su Wantang.

"Su Wantang! You heartless, vicious woman! What have you done to my son! All I did was steal a piece of your flesh, and you actually poisoned a child! I'm going to the police station to report you! You just wait!"

She cried and wailed so loudly that it attracted the attention of the neighbors.

Qin Tian and Lu Linchuan also rushed over upon hearing the commotion. Seeing the chaotic scene, Qin Tian's face turned extremely grim.

"What's going on?!" (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
