Su Wantang held the small syringe, her heart pounding.
She stepped out of the space; it was already dawn.
Just as I was about to catch my breath, I heard a rapid knocking on the door.
"Wantang! Wantang! You have to go see her! Xiulian...she's dying!"
It was Zhao Jing's voice, trembling with sobs.
Su Wantang's heart skipped a beat, and she grabbed the injection and rushed out.
A deathly stillness permeated Sun Xiulian's home. Sun Xiulian lay on the bed, her eyes closed, her lips cracked and purple, her breathing so faint it was almost imperceptible.
“Uncle Qian came to see us and said… said we should prepare for our funeral…” Sun Xiulian’s husband, a man as strong as an iron tower, was crying like a child at this moment.
Su Wantang pushed through the crowd and walked to the bedside.
“Sister-in-law, don’t worry.” She turned to Zhao Jing and said, “I have a family remedy here, maybe we can try it.”
She took out the small syringe.
Everyone was stunned. The thing was too strange—a transparent tube with a needle that gleamed with a metallic sheen—it was nothing like any drug they knew.
"What is this?" Sun Xiulian's man asked warily.
"A method... that can deliver the medicine directly into the bloodstream, and it works quickly." That was the only explanation Su Wantang could give. She couldn't hesitate; if she did, no one would believe her.
She pulled Sun Xiulian's burning wrist, deftly inserted the needle into the vein, and slowly pushed in the blue medicine.
The room was completely silent; everyone held their breath and watched her.
Time passed by, second by second.
Every second felt like an eternity.
Suddenly, Sun Xiulian's long eyelashes trembled.
Her chest began to rise and fall, her previously faint breathing became heavy, then steady. The terrifying purple color faded from her lips little by little, restoring their normal hue.
"Water..." A sound as faint as a mosquito's hum came from her throat.
"Xiulian!" Her man rushed to the bedside, so excited that he was incoherent.
Sun Xiulian slowly opened her eyes. Although she was weak, her eyes were clear.
She's better!
Everyone was stunned, looking at Su Wantang as if she were a fairy descended from heaven.
Zhao Jing rushed over, grabbed Su Wantang's hand, and cried uncontrollably, "Wantang...you, you are truly our savior!"
Sun Xiulian weakly reached out her hand, her eyes filled with gratitude for surviving the ordeal.
Su Wantang simply smiled and attributed this tremendous credit to the understated phrase "family remedy."
Lu Linchuan didn't return until late at night.
He carried the chill of the outside air and the smell of disinfectant, and his brows were furrowed with weariness.
"Wantang, I'm back." His voice was hoarse, and his tense nerves relaxed slightly when he saw that Su Wantang was safe and sound.
"Sit down and rest." Su Wantang quickly poured him a glass of water.
The water was warm, and two drops of spiritual spring water had been quietly added to it.
Lu Linchuan finished the water in one gulp, feeling a sweet, refreshing taste slide down his throat, instantly dispelling most of his fatigue. He was somewhat surprised: "The water today... why does it taste so good?"
"I added some chrysanthemum to cool it down," Su Wantang lied without changing her expression, but her heart was pounding.
Looking at her husband's handsome yet tired face, and the dark circles under his eyes, she felt an overwhelming pang of heartache.
She couldn't wait any longer.
While Lu Linchuan was taking a shower, she took out another vaccine injection and hid it in her palm.
When he came out, she went up to him and helped him dry his hair.
"Lin Chuan, you've been working so hard these past few days. Your neck looks stiff. Let me massage it for you."
"Okay." Lu Linchuan closed his eyes, enjoying his wife's rare tenderness.
Su Wantang gently pressed the acupoints on his neck with her fingers, and Lu Linchuan hummed comfortably, his whole body relaxing.
