"Hmm?" Su Wantang paused in her movements, leaned back slightly against his firm chest, and said with a hint of a smile.
"Wife, the brigade commander just gave me a special mission. You're truly my lucky star." Lu Linchuan's voice was low and husky, tinged with a deep sense of emotion. He tightened his arms around her, as if trying to meld her into his very bones. This good fortune, this future, was all thanks to her.
Su Wantang turned her head, rubbed her cheek against his cheek, and whispered, "It's because you're outstanding that opportunities come to you."
"You brought this to me." Lu Linchuan's lips pressed against her cheek, then to the corner of her mouth, and finally found her lips.
This kiss was unlike his usual domineering one; it was filled with endless cherishing and gratitude, gentle and lingering. The only sound in the kitchen was the gurgling of the tap water, and an ambiguous, indescribable atmosphere filled the air.
"Mmm... Stop it." Su Wantang was a little breathless from his kiss, her cheeks flushed, and she gently pushed him away. "The brigade commander and Xiao Juan are still waiting outside. They're going to be hungry."
Lu Linchuan chuckled, released her, but didn't go far. Instead, he picked up the apron next to him and tied it around his neck: "I'll help you out."
"Okay." Su Wantang smiled slightly.
“But… if I go on a mission,” Lu Linchuan gazed intently at her with his deep eyes, “I won’t be able to stay by your side and take care of you every day.”
"I have missed being there for you and the children."
"What's the big deal?" Su Wantang said softly. "You're a soldier; this is your responsibility and mission."
"I knew it the day I married you. I was prepared."
"Wife." The man's chest was warm, as if something was vibrating inside, and his eyes were full of tenderness. "Marrying you is the greatest blessing I've ever had."
Su Wantang smiled gently, "Marrying you is my blessing."
The two smiled at each other, their eyes filled with tender affection.
Next, Lu Linchuan took on the most strenuous task. With swift and skillful strokes, he cleaned the several large, menacing blue crabs, leaving their shells intact.
Su Wantang was preparing the sauce on the side, the proportions of minced ginger, minced garlic, balsamic vinegar, and sugar were just right. The prepared crab pieces were steamed, and in less than fifteen minutes, an overwhelmingly sweet and fresh aroma filled the entire kitchen.
Next up is steamed scallops with garlic and vermicelli.
Lu Linchuan pried open each fresh scallop and rinsed it clean. Su Wantang then laid the soaked vermicelli on top of the scallop meat, and evenly spread it with minced garlic and garlic that had been sautéed in hot oil. Small red chili peppers were cut into rings and sprinkled on top, resembling little rubies, making it look incredibly appetizing.
The most substantial dish was braised sea cucumber. The soaked sea cucumbers were simmered in broth by Su Wantang, with rock sugar, soy sauce, and a few bay leaves added, over low heat. The broth gradually thickened, bubbling gently, and each sea cucumber absorbed the broth, becoming glossy black, soft, and chewy.
Lu Linchuan wasn't idle either. With his superb knife skills, he sliced a fresh sea bass into paper-thin fillets, preparing to make a dish of pickled fish. The hot oil sizzled, releasing the aroma of ginger, garlic, and dried chili peppers. The fragrant pickled cabbage met the boiling fish bone broth, instantly releasing a rich, sour, and spicy fragrance. The fish fillets were added to the pot and cooked through in a flash, becoming snow-white and tender.
Finally, use the remaining scraps to make a tofu and seaweed soup, sprinkle with chopped green onions, and it's incredibly delicious. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
