Su Wantang and Lu Linchuan exchanged a glance.

The voice sounded warm, yet also somewhat unfamiliar.

Lu Linchuan walked over and opened the door.

A woman in her thirties stood outside the door, wearing a faded blue jumpsuit, with two braids and a warm smile on her face.

She was also carrying a vegetable basket, which was covered with a cloth.

"Commander Lu!"

When the woman saw Lu Linchuan, her voice rose a few decibels.

"Who are you?" Lu Linchuan couldn't find this face in his memory.

"Oh dear, what a terrible memory I have!" The woman slapped her thigh, chuckled, and turned slightly to the side so that the people in the room could see her clearly. "I am Sun Xiulian, the wife of Zhang Jianjun from our battalion! I just moved here with the military."

As she spoke, her gaze passed over Lu Linchuan and landed on Su Wantang, who was not far away.

Sun Xiulian's eyes widened at first glance.

Goodness!

Commander Lu's wife is so beautiful!

Her skin was as white as a peeled egg, and her eyes were watery and seemed to speak volumes.

She stood there gracefully, wearing a pale yellow dress, just like someone who had stepped out of a magazine.

"This must be your sister-in-law, right? Oh my, she's so beautiful!"

Su Wantang smiled faintly in response.

"Hello, Sister-in-law Xiulian."

"Hey!" Sun Xiulian put the vegetable basket in her hand on the table and lifted the cloth on it.

Inside was a small half-bag of white rice, a small bundle of noodles, and an enamel mug filled with half a mug of clear soybean oil.

There were also a few juicy tomatoes and two scallions next to it.

“You’ve just arrived, so you must be lacking everything at home. I figured you haven’t even had dinner yet, so I’m bringing you some food to tide you over.”

Sun Xiulian quickly took out the items one by one.

"No, sister-in-law, you should take it back. We were just about to go to the service center to buy it," Su Wantang quickly declined.

These days, nobody's rich, and all these things are no small amount.

"Oh, sister-in-law, you're being too polite!" Sun Xiulian waved her hand, somewhat embarrassed, and said, "My husband, Lao Zhang, owes a lot to Commander Lu for his care and promotion in the army."

"Commander Lu has done a great favor for our family. What's the big deal about me giving them these little things?"

Sun Xiulian spoke with such sincerity that Su Wantang found it difficult to refuse her.

She looked at Lu Linchuan, her eyes asking a question.

Lu Linchuan nodded slightly to her.

He knew perfectly well that Zhang Jianjun was indeed someone he had personally promoted, and that he was a capable soldier.

We can accept this favor from Sun Xiulian.

"Then... thank you, sister-in-law." Su Wantang finally accepted the gift.

"That's right!" Sun Xiulian smiled even more broadly when she saw that she had accepted the gift. "From now on, we're neighbors. If you need anything, just let me know! Don't be shy!"

Seeing the two women chatting so enthusiastically, Lu Linchuan said to Su Wantang, "Honey, I'll go to the service center and buy some meat and vegetables. The soldiers who helped us move today worked hard too, let's have them stay for a meal."

“Okay, go ahead.” Su Wantang nodded.

With the rice and flour brought by Sun Xiulian, the meal was finally settled.

As soon as Lu Linchuan left, Sun Xiulian took Su Wantang's hand and started chatting about this and that, while also giving Su Wantang a rundown of the interpersonal relationships in the military compound.

Su Wantang listened with a smile, occasionally responding with a few words, while mentally noting down all the useful information.

Not long after, Lu Linchuan returned.

He was carrying a piece of pork belly with alternating layers of fat and lean meat in his left hand, which must have weighed at least two pounds.

He was carrying a net bag in his right hand, which contained potatoes, green vegetables, and even a small bottle of vinegar and a packet of brown sugar.
