On the way back, Fang Meng drove, An Yun sat in the passenger seat, and left the more spacious back seat for the two female colleagues.

Fang Meng had made the back seat very comfortable. The originally somewhat hard back seat was covered with two layers of thick blankets, and there was a large cushion on each of the two doors. The two girls leaned against the door with their feet facing each other, each with a blanket on them.

I have to say, under the right conditions, it was really comfortable.

There's no air conditioning in the car nowadays. The weather in Northeast China in December is really freezing. Sitting in the car, apart from blocking some of the cold wind, the temperature isn't much higher than outside.

Perhaps due to the classification of supernatural elements, Bai Nuo, who is of the plant type, is not even half as good at keeping warm as Fang Meng, who is of the metal type. So, in winter, she seems to be hibernating. Fang Meng even wants to wrap her in a blanket and hold her in his arms while driving.

In comparison, Liu Yanan, who exercises regularly and is used to the weather in Northeast China, is much more resistant to the cold. However, she is now obediently nestled in the back seat, covered with a blanket, and comfortably settled in.

The two girls were still holding the hot water bottles that Yu Xuling had given them before they left. The hot water inside was filled after they drove to the county, and it was still warm in their arms.

Yu Xuling's treatment for his muteness is progressing smoothly. He only needs two more courses of treatment to be cured, after which he will have to train himself to speak.

Yu Xuling was also needed to stay behind to oversee the black market, so he wasn't in a hurry to go back with Bai Nuo and the others.

The old Chinese medicine doctor had long been transferred to Qishui Brigade by them and Wei Zhongping under a legitimate pretext. Now he lives with Ji Haifeng (a member of the Wei family's collateral branch and Bai Nuo's maternal uncle) and a few others in the cowshed. With Xie Weidong and his group secretly taking care of him and the brigade headquarters protecting him, his life is definitely much better than before. This can also be considered as a way of thanking the old doctor for helping Xu Xuling with his treatment.

"Are we just going to let those three people keep following behind?" An Yun opened her eyes and glanced at the rearview mirror. She saw a black sedan following the Jiefang truck at a leisurely pace.

Fang Meng glanced at it quickly, then said nonchalantly, "Come along, it won't delay anything, and we'll have two more people to help us move things when we get home."

An Yun looked at Fang Meng speechlessly: "You're quite carefree, kid. They're your father-in-law and two brothers-in-law, aren't you afraid they'll cause you trouble later?"

"Tch, what am I afraid of!" Fang Meng rolled his eyes arrogantly, looking completely fearless. "The only brother-in-law I'm ever afraid of is surnamed Bai. I have my girlfriend spoiling me and Grandma Wei protecting me. Why would I be afraid of a few people surnamed Zhu? Besides, you're still my brother-in-law. Have I ever beaten you up since we were kids?"

An Yun stared dumbfounded at the extremely arrogant brat, but upon closer reflection, his words were indeed true.

This kid probably spent more time at the Bai family's house than at his maternal grandfather's house from childhood to adulthood. After all, most of the time he would get ready as soon as he opened his eyes in the morning and run to the Bai family's house. He would probably eat breakfast there, and sometimes he would even sleep at the Bai family's house at night. After all, this guy had his own room at the Bai family's house.

The old lady of the Bai family treated this boy as her own grandson. After all, if he weren't her own grandson, who would take him home and beat him without any scruples when he was naughty and caused trouble as a child?

Therefore, it seems that for Madam Bai, Zhu Kaixuan, her son-in-law who had been missing for more than ten years, was not as important as Fang Meng, her grandson-in-law.

Not to mention Bai Yukai, Fang Meng's position in his heart is second only to Bai Nuo.

An Yun: I'm suddenly so envious!

"Oh, right, Niu Niu!"

"Hmm?" Bai Nuo opened her eyes slightly and turned her head to look in the direction of the driver's seat.

"I called my older brother and asked him to find an opportunity to tell Brother Bai about our return, so that they can go home directly when they have time off. Also, the package and letter you asked me to mail to Comrade Xiang should arrive in Shanghai in about five or six days."

A few days ago, Bai Nuo asked Fang Meng to collect a large bag of mountain produce from another brigade and mail it along with a piece of blue corduroy to her sister Achong. She said that Xiang Mama could make Achong a new outfit for her to wear during the Chinese New Year.

She also wrote in the letter that she was going back to Beijing, and left her home address so that her sister Ah Chong wouldn't worry if she couldn't find her.

In the year or so that she had been living in the countryside, she had never lost contact with Xiang Shangchong. This was why she would receive a package from Shanghai from time to time. The blanket she was currently using could not be bought in Northeast China. It was bought by her sister, Xiang Shangchong, in a shopping mall in Shanghai with her own salary and mailed to her, for fear that she would get cold in Northeast China.

After learning that she could return to Beijing to study, her older sister, A-Chong, must be much more at ease. After all, she was always worried that A-Chong would freeze or starve to death in the Northeast.

Their route back to Beijing from Northeast China was planned in advance. They mostly took national highways, deliberately avoiding cities and villages, and drove along the outskirts of the city towards Beijing. Although many roads were remote and quiet, there were very few passing vehicles. They might not encounter a single vehicle in a whole day, making for a very smooth drive.

The downside of usually choosing this route is that there are few places to rest along the way. Fortunately, all four of them can drive this car, so they just have to drive slower at night.

Another drawback is that it can lead to highway robbery!

But for the four of them, it's not a drawback at all!

An Yun leaned forward, resting her elbows on her legs, propped her cheeks up with her hands, tilted her head and looked ahead listlessly, then suddenly chuckled.

At the same time, Fang Meng slowly stepped on the brakes, and the car stopped in place after moving forward for about ten seconds.
