Cars were no good in those days, and the roads were even worse, but fortunately, Fuxing County was only about 150 kilometers away from the city, and it would take about two hours to drive to Kaiyuan City.
This was Bai Nuo's first visit to Kaiyuan City since arriving in Northeast China. Kaiyuan City is a county-level city in Liaoning Province with a population of less than 300,000. A few years ago, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Tieshi City.
Because Liaoning Province is a heavy industrial region, there are various types and sizes of machinery factories and steel mills in cities of all sizes throughout the province.
When you reach the outskirts of the city, you can see the smell of heavy industry everywhere, and even the sky seems to be grayer than in other places.
Once they arrived in the city, Bai Nuo lost much of her curiosity about the place.
To be honest, Kaiyuan City is only a bit bigger and cleaner than their Fuxing County, with more two-story buildings and wider roads. For her, a girl from out of town who has lived in Beijing for more than ten years and in Shanghai for two years, Kaiyuan City is really not attractive at all.
After entering the city, the car drove for another half hour before finally arriving at a three-story white building.
A sign reading "Changning Branch of Kaiyuan City Public Security Bureau" hangs on one side of the gate, and a large plaque above the gate with the words "People's Police for the People" written in red characters hangs in the center.
In front of the small building was a small open space. On the far right of the open space, a row of parking spaces was painted in white paint. On the far right was an old black sedan, and next to the sedan was a military green sidecar motorcycle.
"Those two are the most valuable things in this Public Security Bureau. They're said to be more valuable than their bureau chief. Even if the bureau chief is lost, these two treasures can't be lost!"
An Yun came over as soon as Bai Nuo got out of the car. The two cousins huddled together, chattering away at the police station's prized vehicle.
"Why don't you park them properly in the yard? Aren't you afraid they'll get stolen if you park them outside?" Bai Nuo looked curiously at the two cars that were considered the police station's prized possessions. These old cars didn't have any anti-theft systems, making them incredibly easy to steal.
"Two big metal shells, and no one can steal them without a key!" An Yun glanced at her little cousin speechlessly, wondering what nonsense she was talking about.
As a result, Bai Nuo rolled her eyes with disdain, held up five fingers at her dim-witted cousin, and said in a nonchalant tone with the arrogance of a technician: "Just tell me which one you want to drive. Give me five seconds, and I'll drive the car away for you."
An Yun was immediately astonished: "So amazing!"
Bai Nuo pouted and arrogantly raised her chin: "Tch, who do you think you are? I'm Bai, and I'm a professional!"
"Cousin, you're amazing!" An Yun raised her hand with admiration and clapped softly. Then she leaned closer and muttered, "Actually, I've wanted to try riding that sidecar motorcycle for a long time."
Bai Nuo nodded: "This is easier than that little car. I can start it in three seconds."
"Ahem!" Liu Yanan coughed heavily, reached out and pulled the two cousins behind her, one in each hand. Then, she gave a professional fake smile, maintaining the aura of "as long as I'm shameless, no one can attack me," and politely nodded to the tall man standing not far away.
"I'm sorry, our county has been conducting anti-theft drills recently. My two colleagues are very serious and responsible about this. They habitually memorize the lines to be used in the drills wherever they go. I hope Captain Li will forgive them."
The captain of the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Municipal Public Security Bureau tried hard to suppress the twitching of his lips and restrain himself from looking at the precious motorcycle parked next to him. He nodded stiffly and said, "I understand, I understand. Welcome to our comrades from the county for technical support. You must be tired from your journey. Shall we go ahead?"
"Please go ahead, thank you!"
Forcing a smile, Liu Yanan turned back quickly and menacingly to the two "brat cousins" behind her as the other person walked a short distance inside, saying, "I'm warning you two, don't touch their motorcycle! We're here to provide technical support, not to turn ourselves in!"
