Chapter 17 Kick them out
Reading Settings
Bai Nuo threw a pile of old clothes and several tattered quilts out of the house, directly onto Ma Xiaomei.
Fortunately, these things were easy to find; they had all been piled up in that small storage room by the Ma family, so Bai Nuo didn't have to search for them.
The petite and delicate girl stood at the doorway, a smile on her face, yet with an air of haughty arrogance, her gaze indifferent as she looked at the person sitting on the ground.
The arrogance and indifference in those eyes was what Ma Xiaomei hated most. She hated that she was born in the countryside, hated that her parents were not capable, hated that they could not give her a bright and dazzling future, and hated that they could not let her be born a glamorous city person.
Before, Bai Nuo was mentally impaired and couldn't distinguish between city people and country people, and she had never looked at her like that. But in her heart, she was jealous of Bai Nuo. She was clearly a fool, but she had such a good background, so many beautiful clothes, and even watches and radios that she had never seen before. Even after becoming an orphan, someone took care of everything for her.
When she first came to the city and saw Bai Nuo, who was fair-skinned, beautiful, and dazzling, wearing a gorgeous floral dress that she never dared to dream of, the inferiority and jealousy in her heart almost drove her crazy.
She originally thought that after leaving the countryside, she would be a city dweller, able to wear beautiful dresses every day, have a good job, and marry a powerful and wealthy man.
But now...
Everything is gone.
"Bai Nuo, what right do you have to treat me like this?"
"Just because the house deed is in my name, Bai Nuo, just because my family bought this house for me, just because your Ma family broke your promise, bullied and humiliated me for two years, and almost killed me, I can naturally kick you out of here now."
I was lucky that I bumped my head and it healed; otherwise, I might have been killed by your whole family at any time.
Your whole family came to the city thanks to my family. For years you've lived in my house, spent the money my family left behind, and done jobs my family found for you, yet you've abused me. You not only beat and verbally abused me frequently, but you also tried to seize my family's property. Based on these points alone, I don't need any written severance of ties with you. After all, we have no blood relation whatsoever, nor is there any adoption relationship. You were merely using my family's money to support me for two years.”
Bai Nuo spoke very clearly, word by word. Although she was going to the countryside and outsiders did not know her true identity, her maternal grandmother's family, the Wei family, was once a prominent family in Shanghai. Even now, many people still knew about them. If she had the opportunity to clarify her identity in the future, she could not let this little mishap damage her family's reputation.
Therefore, these things must be explained clearly and explicitly.
After saying that, Bai Nuo ignored the surrounding chatter and pointed at the tattered clothes and quilts on Ma Xiaomei's body, saying, "These are the things your family brought when you came from the countryside. Now take your junk and get out of my house."
"Oh, right." Bai Nuo turned around and went back into the house. Then she came out again with the Ma family's household registration book in her hand and casually threw it at Ma Xiaomei's face: "This is your family's too. Your grandma and your older brother left in a hurry and didn't need the household registration book when they took the bus. Remember to take it with you, so as not to dirty my house."
After Bai Nuo finished speaking, he turned around and slammed the door shut. It didn't matter that the lock was broken; he could just poke it with a stick.
Ma Xiaomei was unaware that the household registration book she held would soon become useless.
Grandma Ma and Ma Fubao returned to their hometown. It only took seven or eight hours by bus from Shanghai. If they wanted to live in the countryside after returning, they would have to transfer their grain and household registration back to their hometown's production brigade. Otherwise, they wouldn't even be able to receive a per capita grain ration. As for going back to the city, that would be even more impossible.
With no money, no job, and nowhere to live, am I going to come back and become a homeless drifter?
As for Ma Xiaomei, she was going to the countryside in three days, a few days earlier than Bai Nuo, and she didn't have any money to even take the bus back to the countryside.
but……
It's not that there's nowhere to go!
"Ah Tong, has Ma Xiaomei secretly started dating someone?"
"That's right. The clone program I left here overheard her and Ma Fubao talking about this. Apparently, it's a brother Ma Fubao met outside. He lives in the sugar factory's staff quarters. His family of more than ten people live in a small, cramped apartment of about 20 square meters. Ma Fubao introduced him to his sister. He doesn't have a job and just hangs around on the streets. But from what they said, he's quite good-looking. Otherwise, he probably wouldn't have been able to win over Ma Xiaomei, who has such high standards."
"Why didn't you go to the countryside?" Bai Nuo rolled her eyes speechlessly.
“Ma Fubao and his siblings came to Shanghai a year earlier than you. Their household registration had always been in the countryside. Ma Jiangshui only managed to transfer it here at the end of last year. Naturally, none of them were sent to the countryside. As for Ma Xiaomei’s boyfriend, he probably had more than two siblings who were sent to the countryside, so they let him go.”
"Alright!"
Bai Nuo was just asking out of curiosity. Other people's affairs had nothing to do with her. She was just curious whether her beloved would go with Ma Xiaomei if she went to the countryside.
The crying and commotion at the door soon quieted down. Ma Xiaomei was probably persuaded to leave. In any case, she was in the right no matter what, and no one would say anything to her if she kicked them out.
As for where Ma Xiaomei should go, what does that have to do with her?
With no one else around, Bai Nuo began tidying up the house.
All of the Ma family's clothes and bedding were wrapped in a large bed sheet. They would sell them if they could, and throw them away at a scrap metal recycling station if they couldn't.
The remaining pots, pans, and other utensils were also packed into a separate sack. Items stolen from her, such as skirts, shirts, watches, and radios, were also packed together and sold.
She doesn't lack these things; anything the Ma family has touched, she genuinely finds dirty, no matter how expensive it is.
Anyway, she didn't lose everything. She exchanged what she could for money, and she didn't mind that the money she got back was dirty.
She tidied up until evening, and when she finally stopped, covered in sweat, she realized she was starving.
Seeing the large bags of junk and two sacks of good stuff on the ground, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Now, apart from the things piled up on the living room floor, all that's left in the house is this house and its furniture.
After securing the front door with something, Bai Nuo went into an empty room, locked the door, and checked the security several times before turning around and entering her own space.
