Chapter 278 Suicide by Poisoning
Reading Settings
Sang Yuwan was startled, as if an invisible current had suddenly pierced through the calm lake of her heart, stirring up ripples.
At that moment, the surrounding air seemed to freeze, and time became slow and heavy.
There seemed to be disbelief in her eyes, "Shen Yilin has been captured?"
Rong Zhi lowered his brow slightly, his tone becoming a little heavier, "He's dead."
"Dead?!"
Sang Yuwan's heart suddenly clenched, followed by a rapid and irregular beating, as if it had been suddenly gripped by an invisible hand, causing her to involuntarily hold her breath.
After a few seconds of silence, she continued, "How did he die?"
Rong Zhi frowned slightly, his voice low and powerful, "Take poison and commit suicide."
Sang Yuwan's heart tightened, and an inexplicable chill rose quietly from the end of her spine, quickly spreading throughout her body, making her shiver involuntarily.
Two drops of ginger tea from the thermos spilled out and landed on the back of her hand.
She felt no pain at all.
Rong Zhi's pupils contracted, and he took a deep breath. "Did you get burned?"
Sang Yuwan shook her head.
Even though Rong Zhi said it himself, she still couldn't quite believe it; Shen Yilin was dead just like that.
She stared intently at Rong Zhi, confirming once more, "He's really dead."
Rong Zhi nodded calmly, "I confirmed it myself."
Sang Yuwan still felt inexplicably uneasy. She gently sipped her ginger tea.
Upon first taste, you experience the spiciness of ginger, a subtle yet perfectly stimulating sensation that awakens every cell in your body. Then, the sweetness of sugar slowly emerges, intertwining with the spiciness of the ginger.
The tea soup glides down the throat, leaving a warm sensation that seems to dispel the chill in the body, making one feel warm from the inside out.
Seeing that her expression had eased slightly, Rong Zhi went to Ming Yu's spirit tablet and respectfully offered his respects.
After all the ceremonies, he looked at Mingyu's portrait and said silently to himself.
"You shouldn't have left so quickly. If you leave, who will take Wanwan to her wedding day?"
"Second Master."
The man in black rushed in.
Rong Zhi collected his thoughts, his expression cold and indifferent. "What's wrong?"
The man in black walked up to him and lowered his voice so that only the two of them could hear, "Mingmei is dead. The cause of death is exactly the same as Shen Yilin's."
Rong Zhi's face was expressionless, his gaze cold. "I didn't expect that Shen Yilin would find someone to take him down with him before he left."
The man in black whispered, "Mingmei hasn't left the Ming family since yesterday. Who poisoned her?"
Rong Zhi's gaze darkened.
The man in black then said, "Second Master, how about I go and check the surveillance footage?"
Rong Zhi's expression hardened. "This is the Ming family's residence."
The implication is that their interference in the investigation was an overreach of authority.
The man in black looked troubled. "Then let Madam investigate? Second Master, if we don't find out the truth, this is a ticking time bomb."
Rong Zhi's brows furrowed slightly, forming two sharp mountain-like lines that added an air of unapproachable majesty to his already resolute face.
"You can go down now."
"Yes," the man in black replied, and turned to turn around.
Rong Zhi added, "The Shen family is under close surveillance."
The man in black nodded. "Understood."
When Rong Zhi returned to Sang Yuwan's side, a hidden tenderness was revealed in his deep eyes. It was a tenderness that he cherished and protected, a promise to the person he truly cared about. However, this tenderness was hidden behind layers of armor and was not easily seen by outsiders.
Before she knew it, Sang Yuwan had already drunk half a cup of ginger and brown sugar water, and her body felt a little warmer.
Just as she was about to speak, her phone rang.
It was fought during the Ming Dynasty.
"Second brother..."
"Wan'er, Mingmei couldn't be saved. She passed away five minutes ago."
Ming Zhan's hoarse voice revealed a hint of exhaustion.
Sang Yuwan's heart clenched, her whole body trembled violently, and a cold chill rose from the soles of her feet.
Mingmei is dead.
Although she had already guessed this outcome.
But when she heard it with her own ears, the shock she felt was like a silent scream, echoing in her chest, deafeningly loud.
She took a deep breath, her long, feathery eyelashes fluttering violently, her pupils reflecting astonishment and resentment.
Mingmei left just like that; it's too easy for her.
The same goes for Shen Yilin.
Rong Zhi had already guessed the content of their conversation. His pupils contracted slightly, and he took the thermos from Sang Yuwan's hand.
Sang Yuwan took a deep breath, her chest heaving. "The Ming family has already suffered two deaths. It would be better to postpone Mingmei's funeral."
Mingzhan said, "That's what I think too. Besides, she's a public figure. If things aren't handled well, it could have a very negative impact."
Sang Yuwan nodded silently.
After a few seconds of silence, she spoke again, "Second Brother, you are no longer the Mingzhan you used to be."
Upon hearing this, Rong Zhi's eyelids twitched involuntarily.
On the other end of the phone, Mingzhan spoke in a low voice, "Wan'er, I hope that one day I can... Never mind, let's not talk about this today. I need to deal with Mingmei's matter first."
"Okay." Sang Yuwan slowly removed the phone from her ear.
Rong Zhi sat down beside her and asked in a low voice, "There's something I'd like to ask for your opinion on."
Sang Yuwan pinched the bridge of her nose, which was feeling sore, and asked softly, "What is it?"
Seeing her haggard appearance, Rong Zhi felt very sorry for her.
There's just been so much going on lately.
She had no way to avoid it.
Fortunately, it's all coming to a complete end.
Rong Zhi looked around, lowered his voice, and said in a deep voice, "I suspect that the Ming family has someone from Shen Yilin."
Sang Yuwan's eyelids twitched heavily, she withdrew her hand, and her fingertips slowly tightened.
What evidence do you have?
Rong Zhi replied, "Mingmei's death is the evidence."
Sang Yuwan's breathing became rapid and shallow, each inhalation like a storm raging in her chest, causing her heart to beat faster and louder, like the booming of war drums in her ears.
"Don't worry too much. Trust me, we'll find out soon." Rong Zhi quickly grasped her cold hands, his deep eyes cold yet filled with tenderness.
Sang Yuwan's hands unconsciously clenched into fists, her fingertips turning white from the force, as if she were trying to grasp something to stabilize the sudden turmoil. Her body leaned back slightly, as if an invisible force was pulling her back from the edge of shock.
"Investigate. Find out, and see how I deal with him."
Upon hearing this, Rong Zhi's face showed a deep and solemn expression. His brows were furrowed, revealing an undeniable seriousness, and his eyes were sharp and focused.
"I need to access all the surveillance footage from the Ming family over the past two days, including your living room."
"Okay. I'll grant you the permissions."
Without much thought, Sang Yuwan readily agreed.
Although Shen Yilin is dead, who knows what this person he left behind will do.
She understood that Rong Zhi didn't have to greet her at all.
But he still asked for her opinion.
This is respect.
It's also about trust.
