Chapter 151 It's not fever, it's restlessness.

The tent flap was suddenly flung open, and a cool evening breeze rushed in.

Before Jiang Jiuzhe could say anything more, Jiang Yutang had already left the tent.

He withdrew his hand from mid-air and looked thoughtfully at the still steaming teacup on the table.

When I saw Cheng Lanzhou just now, her face did have an abnormal flush, and that was definitely not a misperception.

Jiang Yutang, leaning on his cane, slowly walked along the path in the camp toward the well.

The evening breeze was much noisier than it had been at dusk, causing her to instinctively tighten her thin coat.

From afar, she saw a lone figure standing by the well. The man was shirtless, his bronze skin gleaming coldly in the moonlight. He was carrying a wooden bucket and pouring cold water, freshly drawn from the well, over himself.

"Cheng Lanzhou!" Jiang Yutang stumbled and almost fell to the ground.

It's really baffling. My second brother clearly said he wasn't feeling well, so why is he still putting himself through this?

She rushed forward in a panic to stop him, her voice trembling slightly: "What are you doing!"

Upon hearing the familiar voice, Cheng Lanzhou paused in her watering motion, then slowly turned around to look at her.

Cool water droplets trickled down his sharply defined face, clinging to his wet hair and tightly pursed chin, refusing to fall. Only his usually gentle eyes were now filled with suppressed desire, like a beast poised to pounce.

Only when Jiang Yutang hopped closer on one foot did she see his expression clearly.

Even though it was a cold October night, Cheng Lanzhou was breathing heavily, as if he were in the sweltering heat of summer rather than the cool autumn.

"How did you get here?" Cheng Lanzhou's voice was terribly hoarse.

“I heard from my second brother that you weren’t feeling well, so I came to find you.” Jiang Yutang said, reaching out to brush away the wet hair on his forehead. Her fingertips had barely touched his skin when she asked in a panic.

"You have a fever! With such a high fever, how can you rinse it with cold water? Are you trying to kill yourself?"

She grabbed Cheng Lanzhou's arm, pulled him up forcefully, and then grabbed the outer robe hanging by the well, haphazardly covering him with it.

"Come back to the tent with me quickly, I'll go get you some fever reducer!"

Cheng Lanzhou suddenly grabbed her wrist with his other hand. The force wasn't strong, but it was not easy for her to break free, and he pulled her to a stop in place.

A dangerous and scorching aura traveled along the skin that touched, instantly throwing Jiang Yutang into a panic.

She instinctively turned her head to meet his gaze, only to be met by his unfathomable eyes.

The air seemed to freeze, with only the sound of water droplets falling to the ground carried by the evening breeze.

After a long while, Cheng Lanzhou slowly released her hand, leaving a lingering burning sensation.

He turned his head away: "It's not a fever, I'll be fine in a bit, you can go back now."

"How can this be?" Jiang Yutang reached out and grabbed his outer robe again. "It's burning hot, how could it be alright?"

Looking at her stubborn expression, Cheng Lanzhou's desire was gradually replaced by helplessness. He could only let her tug at his clothes and walk step by step toward the tent.

The tent was empty when the curtain was lifted; neither Lin Shi nor Cheng Dai'er were to be seen.

"Where are Mother and Aunt?"

“My elder sister is still in the military camp. Mother was worried she was hungry, so she brought her dinner.” Cheng Lanzhou’s face and breath were hot.

Jiang Yutang's gaze fell on the only wooden bed in the tent, then she noticed a bamboo mat rolled up in the corner and frowned: "Have you been sleeping on the floor these past few days?"

Cheng Lanzhou gave a dismissive "hmm".

Jiang Yutang helped him to a chair in front of the table and said, "Wait here for me. I'll go back and get the bedding and medicine. I'll be right back."

After she left, Cheng Lanzhou let out a low breath and leaned back in her chair, her eyes slightly closed as she licked her dry lips, her whole body radiating an indescribable heat.

He grabbed the kettle on the table and gulped down several mouthfuls. The icy well water couldn't quell the burning sensation in his body. Cheng Lanzhou's Adam's apple bobbed as he suddenly realized what was wrong with his abnormal state.

Could it be...?

Just then, the tent flap was lifted again. He looked up abruptly, and before he could even conceal the turmoil in his eyes, he shouted sharply, "Don't come in!"

Jiang Yutang, who had just stepped in, stopped abruptly. She was still carrying cotton and medicine in her hands and was startled by his sudden angry shout. She stood there innocently.

"What's wrong with you..." Before she could finish speaking, she realized something was wrong.

Cheng Lanzhou's cheeks were flushed an unnatural red, beads of sweat rolled down her jawline, and her eyes were much deeper than usual, with a kind of fervor she had never seen before.

Her gaze unconsciously drifted downwards, landing on his firm waist, and her cheeks flushed bright red. She quickly looked away.

Cheng Lanzhou suddenly stood up, turned around with her back to her, put her hands on the edge of the table, took a deep breath, and asked in a hoarse voice, "What exactly was the soup you gave me during the day?"

"It's just a regular tonic soup!"

Jiang Yutang hurriedly explained, but the mysterious smile of Doctor Xu when he handed her the soup suddenly flashed through her mind, and her voice gradually weakened.

"Well... it seems Dr. Xu added extra 'tonics,' but I don't know what they are..."

"Tonic medicine?" Cheng Lanzhou chuckled softly, his laughter tinged with helplessness and hoarseness.

He turned his head to look at Jiang Yutang, his gaze intense: "What part of me makes you feel like you need to replenish these?"

"That's not it!" Jiang Yutang hurriedly waved her hands. "I really don't know what Doctor Xu added. I just wanted to help you nourish your body..."

Before she could finish speaking, Cheng Lanzhou suddenly stepped forward, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her deep into the tent, pinning her against the cold edge of the table.

The two were extremely close, and his scorching heat emanated from them; they could almost feel each other's breath mingling.

Jiang Yutang leaned back awkwardly, her fingertips accidentally touching the kettle on the table, making a crisp sound.

She cautiously raised her eyes, only to meet Cheng Lanzhou's unfathomable gaze.

He slowly lowered his head, his nose brushing against her flushed cheek, carrying a burning heat, before finally burying his head in her neck and shoulder, greedily inhaling the fragrance of her hair.

“Yutang…”

His voice, hoarse and suppressed, echoed softly in her ear.

The hot breath on her neck made Jiang Yutang tense up. She called out in a panicked whisper, "Lanzhou?"

My heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of my chest, and a thought popped into my head uncontrollably.

Is today perhaps the right time?

Just then, voices came from outside the tent, and they grew closer and closer.

Jiang Yutang was so shocked that she froze, and Cheng Lanzhou also instantly sobered up.

A split second before the tent flap was lifted, he quickly released her and retreated to the table, as if the previous intimacy had never happened.

Jiang Yutang lowered her head shyly, her fingers tightly gripping the hem of her clothes, standing by the table, not daring to look up.

“Mother, elder sister,” Cheng Lanzhou spoke first, her tone so calm that nothing seemed amiss.

Lin and Cheng Dai'er stared blankly at the two people in the tent.

Cheng Dai'er frowned in displeasure, pointing at Cheng Lanzhou's wet clothes and scolding, "What are you doing? Did you fall into the river in the middle of the night?"

Lin's gaze swept over Jiang Yutang's flushed cheeks, and she instantly realized something, looking at them in surprise.

Unable to bear the awkward atmosphere any longer, Jiang Yutang hurriedly said, "Mother, Aunt, I'm going back now."

After saying that, he rushed out of the tent as if he were fleeing.
