Chapter 127 Helping to Take Care of the Kids
"No rush, no rush!"
Jiang Yutang quickly waved his hand and explained with a smile, "My fourth brother is quick and accurate at accounting. He finishes his daily work early and often takes a nap in the warehouse."
She leaned closer and teased in a low voice, "Don't let his cold and unapproachable exterior fool you; he's actually all bark and no bite. When we were little, after he scolded me, he'd turn around and hide in his room to cry his heart out. He's got a soft heart."
"ah?"
Dr. Xu stared in surprise, her eyebrows furrowing slightly. She muttered to herself, "I really didn't expect him to be this kind of person. When I saw him yesterday, he seemed quite serious."
Jiang Yutang blinked and said confidently, "That's just how he is. He may seem cold on the outside, but he's warm on the inside. He'll definitely be able to take good care of your brother. Besides, it's so boring for a child to be locked up in the wooden house all day. It's better for him to go out and see the world. It's better to have someone to accompany and take care of him than to be all alone."
These words deeply moved Doctor Xu. A look of gratitude appeared on her face, and she stood up and bowed to Jiang Yutang to express her thanks: "Then I'll have to trouble your fourth brother!"
The next morning, Jiang Yutang arrived at the clinic early. Just as she finished arranging the medicinal herbs, she saw Doctor Xu leading Ah Yi in.
The child was dressed in clean gray clothes, with his hat still on tightly. His round eyes curiously looked around the furnishings of the clinic, but his body was pressed tightly against Dr. Xu's leg, not daring to move away even a step, appearing extremely timid.
Jiang Yutang smiled and stepped forward, bending down to look the child in the eye, and greeted him gently: "Ayi, do you remember me?"
The child glanced at her timidly, clutched Dr. Xu's clothes tightly, and pursed his lips without saying a word.
Dr. Xu squatted down, straightened A-Yi's slightly crooked hat, and gently instructed, "Do you remember what your brother told you last night? When you go to Brother Jiang's place, you must behave well, don't be naughty, and don't run around, understand?"
Ayi nodded, still not speaking, his eyes sparkling.
Doctor Xu then looked at Jiang Yutang, his eyes full of apology: "Then I'll have to trouble you, Miss Jiang."
Don't worry!
Jiang Yutang smiled and took Ayi's little hand in hers. Her palm was warm, but the child's little hand was a little cold.
“I’ll take him to my fourth brother’s place and come right back. It won’t interfere with the clinic’s business.”
The child, being led by her, instinctively tried to shrink back behind Dr. Xu, but was gently pulled back by her.
"Come on, let's go to a fun place." Jiang Yutang said as she gently led the child out, walking slowly so as not to frighten the timid little one.
As Dr. Xu stood at the entrance of the clinic, watching the two figures gradually disappear into the distance, his initial unease slowly subsided.
Ah Yi was too short, so Jiang Yutang had to bend down slightly and slow down to patiently lead the way when she held his hand.
The two walked through warehouses piled high with grain and the air filled with the fresh scent of cereal, and finally arrived at a neat accounting room in the corner.
Jiang Sumin was sitting at the table, flipping through the ledger with his fingertips, looking focused.
"Fourth Brother!"
Jiang Sumin turned around and immediately saw the child hiding behind her, his head buried, only a small section of the brim of his hat showing, his eyes full of fear.
"You're here." Jiang Sumin stood up and greeted them, pointing to the small stool next to the table, and then took two things out of the drawer.
A colorful rattle drum and a set of brass nine-linked rings were placed on the stool.
Jiang Yutang looked at the two toys and laughed: "Fourth Brother, you even prepared toys specially? But isn't this nine-linked ring a bit too difficult for her?"
Jiang Sumin frowned, looking unconvinced: "Is it difficult? I started playing this when I was three years old."
Jiang Yutang ignored him, took Ayi's hand and sat him on a small stool, gently instructing him, "You stay here obediently with your brother Jiang, and I will come to see you with your brother at noon."
Ayi nodded timidly, his big eyes still hiding unease, but his little hand quietly touched the rattle drum, making a crisp "dong dong" sound.
Jiang Yutang pulled Jiang Sumin aside, grabbed a handful of fruit candies from her pocket, and stuffed them into his hands.
"If she cries or throws a tantrum, give her a piece of candy to comfort her, don't scold her."
"Okay, okay, you're so long-winded." Jiang Sumin complained, but still put the candy in the drawer and arranged it neatly.
Back at the clinic, Jiang Yutang told Doctor Xu, "Don't worry, my fourth brother has made all the arrangements. We'll bring lunch and go see Ayi at noon."
Dr. Xu nodded, his eyes filled with gratitude: "Thank you so much for your help."
Finally, noon arrived, and Dr. Xu walked ahead, his pace quickening unconsciously.
As the two approached the accounting office, they heard Jiang Sumin whisper, "Eat more vegetables, so you can grow tall."
As you walk in, you see Ayi sitting on a small stool with a small bowl of food in front of her. Jiang Sumin is putting a piece of green vegetable into her bowl.
When A-Yi saw Doctor Xu, his eyes lit up. He immediately put down his chopsticks and ran over, hugging her leg tightly, his voice soft and sweet: "Brother!"
Dr. Xu bent down and gently patted her head, his voice soft: "You haven't been naughty, have you?"
Jiang Yutang sat on the stool next to Jiang Sumin, placed the lunchbox on the table, and asked softly, "Is the child easy to take care of?"
Jiang Sumin responded softly, picking up a piece of food with his chopsticks: "Quite well-behaved, no fuss, just hasn't solved the nine-linked rings yet, staring at it for a long time." There was a hint of satisfaction hidden in his tone.
Upon hearing this, Dr. Xu was completely relieved, and a relieved smile appeared on his face.
In the days that followed, Jiang Sumin would spend every day with Ayi in the accounting room, one checking the accounts and the other playing with toys.
The child was initially shy, but after becoming familiar with Jiang Sumin, he kept calling him "Brother Jiang," which melted Jiang's heart.
One night before bed, Jiang Yutang sneakily sat down in the chair next to Jiang Songzhi and asked in a low voice, "Big brother, when Doctor Xu's younger brother gets a little older, can he go to your private school to study?"
Jiang Songzhi put down his book and smiled gently: "The academy is a place for teaching and nurturing people. As long as the child is willing to learn, I will naturally welcome him."
The next day, as soon as Jiang Yutang arrived at the clinic, she told Dr. Xu the good news.
Upon hearing this, Dr. Xu's eyes lit up instantly, and he excitedly grabbed her hand: "Really? She can really go to the academy to study?"
Realizing she was speaking too loudly, she quickly covered her mouth, her cheeks flushed, and apologized in a low voice, "I'm sorry, I was just too happy and couldn't control myself."
"It's alright, it's alright," Jiang Yutang said with a smile.
Dr. Xu's eyes reddened slightly, filled with gratitude. After calming himself down, he asked eagerly, "When can I go? How much is the tuition? I might not have enough money right now, but I'll raise it as soon as possible."
Jiang Yutang pondered for a moment and said, "Next spring will be fine. As for the money, I haven't asked my elder brother yet, but it shouldn't be too expensive, so don't worry too much."
The two were chatting happily and didn't notice a tall figure standing at the door. The man leaned against the door and looked at her for a while before coughing lightly.
"cough--"
Jiang Yutang turned to look at the door, her face immediately lighting up with a smile, revealing two dimples: "Third Brother!"
