Chapter 26 Are you lecturing me?
The woman casually rubbed her hands on her apron a couple of times and called out, "What's up, Erhei?"
The man named Erhei was panting heavily, his hand resting on the wooden door as he glanced at them haphazardly. Perhaps he didn't recognize the person he was looking for, so he asked in a trembling voice, "Who is Jiang Yutang?"
Judging from her tone, anyone who didn't know better would think she had gotten into trouble again.
Jiang Yutang paused for a moment, then stood up and asked, "What do you want with me?"
Erhei cried out "Ouch!" and his face turned greener than a bitter gourd: "Girl, come with me to see them. The people staying at my house have all fallen ill. They said you know medicine, so I had no choice but to come to you."
Seeing the man's anxious expression, Jiang Yutang didn't dare to delay. She shook the water droplets off her hands and went with him.
"I'll go with my little sister!" Jiang Huaiyu shoved the bowl of water into Jiang Sumin's arms and hurriedly caught up with him.
Jiang Yutang jogged after Erhei: "What symptoms do they have?"
Erhei waved his hand irritably without turning his head: "I don't know anything. I just saw that something was wrong with them. I'm afraid these three will die in my house. It's bad luck."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yutang frowned, glanced at the back of the man's head, and said nothing more.
Erhei led her into a courtyard and headed straight for the woodshed.
"Look, it's just the three of them. Go and take a look quickly." He stood at the door, covering his mouth and nose with disgust, and directed Jiang Yutang to go inside.
As soon as Jiang Yutang stepped into the small woodshed, she saw the three members of the Cheng family lying on the pile of firewood in a disheveled state. Apart from Cheng Lanzhou, the other two had already fallen into a deep sleep.
As the group entered the courtyard, Cheng Lanzhou heard footsteps. He propped himself up and leaned against the gray wall behind him with difficulty. His mouth was slightly open, and he was breathing out sickly air. There was a dark circle under his eyes, and he looked up at her listlessly.
With just one glance, Jiang Yutang's heart sank, and it wasn't until she took that breath that her heart started beating rapidly again, filled with worry and anxiety.
Before Jiang Yutang could even react, her body moved forward and squatted down in front of Cheng Lanzhou.
This damn body of mine goes out of control the moment it touches Cheng Lanzhou.
Jiang Yutang reached out and touched Cheng Lanzhou's forehead. Meeting his cold eyes, she was surprised that he didn't slap her hand away, perhaps out of consideration for Jiang Huaiyu standing behind him.
The coolness of the well water in his palm, when placed on Cheng Lanzhou's forehead, brought him a sense of comfort, and he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
"Little sister, what's wrong with him?" Jiang Huaiyu stood behind her with his arms crossed.
"You're...feverish, probably because you got caught in the rain yesterday." Jiang Yutang reached out to unbutton Cheng Lanzhou's clothes.
Cheng Lanzhou was probably still delirious from the fever. Seeing her so brazenly tearing off her clothes in front of others, he grabbed her hand and asked in a hoarse voice, "What... what are you doing!"
Her wrist ached from being squeezed so hard, and Jiang Yutang glared back angrily: "You're being disrespectful!"
Cheng Lanzhou stared at her in disbelief, her mouth trembling as she tried to speak.
"Dream on! You should look in the mirror and see what you look like now. You're paranoid all day long, what's with all your narcissism!"
After saying that, he forcefully pulled his hand back and looked to Jiang Huaiyu behind him for help.
"Third brother, please help me take off his clothes. I suspect the wound on his back is infected."
Jiang Huaiyu clicked her tongue in dissatisfaction, stepped forward, and unceremoniously ripped off Cheng Lanzhou's shirt.
With her arms pinned down and unable to move, Cheng Lanzhou's hair swayed in the wind as she gasped for breath, and she could only stare at the two with bloodshot eyes.
As Jiang Yutang had predicted, Cheng Lanzhou's fever was caused by inflammation of the wound, presumably due to being caught in the rain yesterday, but the situation was more serious than expected.
"If the local infection worsens, it is necessary to disinfect immediately, control the infection, protect the wound, and prevent the infection from spreading. If left untreated, it could be life-threatening."
Upon hearing Jiang Yutang's words, Cheng Lanzhou stopped resisting. As her chest heaved, her wound bulged, a sight that made others feel the pain.
"...Check it for my mother and eldest sister first."
Jiang Yutang patted Jiang Huaiyu's hand to signal him to let go, and then went to check on Cheng Daier and Lin Shi's conditions.
The mother and daughter lay dazed on the side, covered with a piece of clothing, their cheeks flushed and breathing heavily.
After a quick check, Jiang Yutang turned to Jiang Huaiyu behind him and said, "Third Brother, could you please go back and bring me the bundle tied with the red string?"
He then said to Erhei, "Do you have any alcohol at home? The stronger the alcohol, the better."
"The wines in my house are all very expensive." Erhei was clearly unwilling.
Seeing how stingy this man was, Jiang Yutang was immediately reminded of the stingy men she had encountered on dates in real life, and she got angry.
"Didn't you say you were afraid someone would die in your house? It's just a little bit of your wine, and you're acting like it's going to kill you. How can a grown man be so petty!"
Erhei was scolded harshly by her. He glanced at Cheng Lanzhou, whose face was dark, with a shifty look, shrugged, and turned to get the wine.
"Why are you in such a hurry to get dressed?" Jiang Yutang glared at Cheng Lanzhou.
The other person had just put their arm into the sleeve when she yelled at them, and for a moment they didn't know whether to take it off or keep putting it on, so they raised one hand and stared at her.
After bringing the bundle, Jiang Yutang took out the fever reducer and fed it to Cheng Daier and Lin Shi. She also instructed Erhei to cook some light porridge for them tonight.
"When they wake up, just ask them for the money. Don't be stingy."
He then borrowed fire and a dagger from Erhei, and after being scolded by Jiang Yutang, he became more obedient.
She handed Cheng Lanzhou a handkerchief, the one Jiang Jiuzhe had used to wipe her hair earlier.
"It will hurt a lot without anesthesia, biting it will make it more comfortable."
Cheng Lanzhou looked at the pale yellow handkerchief, glanced at it, took it, and then bit it.
He didn't know what anesthesia was, but he had experienced having flesh cut open and mangled many times in the army, so it wasn't unusual for him.
Jiang Yutang picked up the wine and poured it on Cheng Lanzhou's back. The other man immediately tensed up, and even on his body covered in holes, his muscle lines were still eye-catching.
But Jiang Yutang is a doctor with professional ethics, and he doesn't let you down at crucial moments.
After disinfecting the dagger with alcohol, place it above the fire to heat it, and then make a cut into the festering, rotten flesh.
Accompanied by a sizzling sound, a burnt smell rose from the room.
Cheng Lanzhou bit his handkerchief, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead. His clenched fists made a cracking sound, and his face turned red, but he endured it without uttering a sound.
Jiang Yutang couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for him. No wonder he had been on the battlefield; he could endure this.
They quickly wrapped Cheng Lanzhou's body with gauze and thoughtfully tied a bow on the gauze.
"Done."
After finishing everything, Jiang Yutang washed her hands in the basin and, with her back to Cheng Lanzhou, explained the precautions.
"The weather has been hot lately, so wear one less layer of clothing to avoid suffocating your wound. Starting tomorrow, you must change your dressing every day. If I forget, remember to come find me."
Thinking that Cheng Lanzhou would definitely not come to her on her own initiative, she added, "By the way, check on my aunt and mother's recovery progress."
Jiang Yutang packed up her things, stood up, turned to look at him, and said seriously, "If you had come earlier yesterday, the wounds might not have become infected, and the two of them wouldn't have gotten sick."
Cheng Lanzhou stared at the bow on the gauze, slowly raised his head, still with a cold and aloof expression, his eyes saying, "Are you lecturing me?"
