Chapter 1 Exile
"Get off my son!"
A furious shout.
Before Jiang Yutang could even open her eyes, she felt herself being forcefully pulled to the ground. The rough, withered branches and pebbles beneath her hurt every part of her body.
"Little sister!"
Several hurried footsteps approached.
Someone held her in their arms and patted her cheeks worriedly, "Tang'er, Tang'er!"
She tried to open her eyes, but her eyelids felt as heavy as a thousand pounds, and she could only hear the noise outside because of her.
"Why are you calling her? She's just faking it! This wicked woman has already caused my Cheng family to have our property confiscated and be exiled, and now she's even trying to murder her husband! If I had known this would happen, I shouldn't have let her into the Cheng family in the first place!"
The anxious male voice revealed his dissatisfaction: "If Cheng Lanzhou cared about my younger sister, she wouldn't have done this. My younger sister is wrong, but is your son not wrong? They haven't divorced yet, and my younger sister is still your Cheng family's daughter-in-law. As her mother-in-law, how can you treat her so rudely!"
"What a blatant attempt to shift the blame! You, you..."
"Mother, wake up!"
It seemed someone had fainted, and the argument became even more heated.
Jiang Yutang had a splitting headache, and just then, a sharp female voice came from afar.
"You bitch, how long are you going to keep pretending to be unconscious?!"
The next second, a bucket of cold water was poured over her head, leaving her completely chilled.
Jiang Yutang felt a sudden lightness in her body, opened her eyes abruptly, and gasped for breath.
What came into view was a strange woman, water dripping from her hair, looking at her with a joyful expression.
The sarcastic remarks continued.
"See? I told you she was faking it!"
"Your whole family only ever revolve around her. You forgive her for everything she does. You deserve to be dragged down by her!"
The woman holding her had a complicated expression: "Tang'er, you, you really are faking it?"
Jiang Yutang felt dazed and struggled to sit up from the woman's arms without saying a word. He looked around and frowned deeply.
This scene was unfamiliar to her.
But she was very familiar with these faces.
She could even call out everyone's name.
The reason is that she has been dreaming about these people repeatedly for a whole month.
In her dream, she was the daughter of a Grand Tutor, born with a silver spoon in her mouth. She had four outstanding older brothers and was the only daughter of the Jiang family. She was pampered and spoiled, which led to her developing a willful and capricious nature.
Some people in the capital jokingly say that whatever she wants, she can get it.
That's certainly true.
When she came of age, she took a fancy to Cheng Lanzhou, the son of a military family. In order to marry him, she resorted to dirty tricks to ruin Cheng Lanzhou's original good marriage and forced him to marry her.
In order not to tarnish her reputation, she even claimed that Cheng Lanzhou had forced her into it.
Overnight, Cheng Lanzhou went from a high-ranking general to a dissolute playboy who indulged in pleasure-seeking.
The entire Cheng family hated her to the core.
After their marriage, Cheng Lanzhou never touched her again.
Unable to bear the neglect, she turned the Cheng family mansion upside down.
Finally, she had an affair and became infatuated with a newly appointed top scholar.
During that time, everyone in the Cheng family thought she had improved, but little did they know that the nightmare had only just begun.
The newly appointed top scholar tricked her, saying that as long as he secretly placed a letter in Cheng Lanzhou's study, he would marry her as his legal wife as soon as she divorced him.
She believed it and did as instructed.
Unexpectedly, the contents of the letter implicated the Cheng and Jiang families, who were accused of treason and collusion with the enemy.
Overnight, the building collapsed.
Out of consideration for the hard work and contributions of both families over the years, the emperor pardoned their death sentence and ordered them to be exiled to Danzhou, three thousand miles away.
The newly appointed top scholar, however, used this "merit" to marry the reigning princess.
On the day the two families were exiled from the capital, they happened to pass by the wedding procession.
She was so angry that she fainted on the spot.
Upon waking up, she was completely unaware of the enormous mistake she had made.
He still stubbornly believes that it was because of Cheng Lanzhou's existence that the newly appointed top scholar remarried.
In a moment of anger, he started pinching people.
Old Master Cheng died young, and Cheng Lanzhou, as the head of the family, was given twenty lashes by the emperor. He was already on his deathbed, but perhaps his life was not meant to end there, for he managed to strangle her until she fainted as well...
Thinking of this, Jiang Yutang reached out and pinched her thigh.
"hiss--"
It hurts; this feeling isn't a dream.
Could it be that she really did transmigrate?
Jiang Yutang's vision blurred. Before this, she had always thought she was possessed, since everything in her dream was exactly the same as a book she had read five years ago called "The Man I Picked Up Randomly Was Actually a God of War".
However, she is not the female lead, but a vicious female supporting character who is hated by everyone in the book.
She had been having these dreams for a whole month, and she was so annoyed that as soon as she opened her eyes this morning, she rummaged through her drawers and found the books she had kept hidden away.
But as soon as she turned to the first page, she felt a tremendous suction force. In a panic, she grabbed her hiking backpack...
The thought had barely formed in his mind.
Out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly caught sight of a doll pendant peeking out from the grass not far away.
Jiang Yutang was startled. If the hiking backpack had come with her, then the book might have come too.
She might have a chance to go back!
She instantly perked up and staggered to her feet.
"Tang'er, what's wrong?"
Yun reached out to help her up, her eyes filled with worry. The two groups of people who were still facing off also involuntarily turned their gazes to her.
Jiang Yutang pretended to cover her mouth: "I...I feel like throwing up..." After she finished speaking, she didn't care about anything else and ran into the bushes.
With a loud clatter, it was then noticed that her feet were still chained.
That's understandable, considering that they are all currently under criminal charges.
Cheng Daier watched her retreating figure and snorted coldly, "Pretending again."
With her back to them, Jiang Yutang quickly opened her backpack and began searching for the book.
But apart from the medicine, food, and a fruit knife she casually slipped in for self-defense, there was nothing else.
We're doomed.
A moment of panic made her flustered, and she pretended to gag while carefully searching in the bushes.
Fortunately, perseverance pays off, and the book was found.
Jiang Yutang eagerly flipped it open, but the huge suction she had imagined did not materialize.
Not only that, but apart from the cover, all the content inside the pages is gone.
She was breathing heavily, trying her best to calm herself down and analyze the situation carefully.
There must be something she missed...
She remembered that she had cut her hand on a piece of paper.
Without thinking, Jiang Yutang immediately cut her finger with a knife and pressed it against the book, but nothing changed.
Her heart felt as if it had fallen into an ice cellar.
The reason she was so anxious to go back was because her grandfather was in the hospital, waiting to have surgery in seven days.
For the entire month, she sold her belongings during the day and worked late into the night to raise money for the surgery.
But now...
Jiang Yutang's eyes welled up with tears. She wondered if she was already dead in the real world, and what would happen to her grandfather.
"Ready to hit the road, let's go!"
Behind them, the shouts of the yamen runners could be heard.
This time, they were escorting not only the Jiang and Cheng families, but also other prisoners who had committed various crimes. At the shout, they all got up in twos and threes, and the chains clattered.
