Chapter 315: There was an ancient term called "cut sleeve"
Grandma Xie rushed into the living room. Grandpa Xie was fiddling with his chess pieces. He saw his wife's hurried steps, lifted his eyelids, and asked, "What's wrong? Why are you in such a hurry? Did that boy leave again?"
"No." Old Mrs. Xie glanced at the door with a strange expression, then hesitated to speak.
"My dear wife, what's wrong? Where's Xiao Zheng? Has he gotten up yet?" Old Xie asked.
"Not up yet."
Grandma Xie sat down on the sofa, looking thoughtful.
Old Xie put down the chess piece in his hand and sighed, "It's no good for that kid to keep up this routine. His sleep schedule is all messed up, and he hasn't eaten a single meal with us these past few days."
"You also feel that something's wrong with him?" Old Mrs. Xie looked at her husband thoughtfully.
Old Xie said angrily, "When has he ever been in a good mood?"
"However, it's not bad to have gotten this far. At least we have jobs, and the pressure will be less when people ask us questions outside."
Over the years, he has been the target of much ridicule and sarcasm because of his spoiled grandson.
At this point, Old Xie's expression turned serious again, and he sighed, "Yesterday I was taking a walk with Old Lu, and he told me about Xiao Zheng."
"What is it?" Old Mrs. Xie hurriedly looked at him and asked.
"He said that Xiao Zheng made outrageous remarks at their house, saying that he was a non-marriage advocate and would never get married in his life."
Grandma Xie's eyes flickered slightly. "My dear husband, if Xiao Zheng really has such thoughts, what do you think?"
Upon hearing his wife's words, Old Xie waved his hand and said, "Let him be. If he doesn't want to get married, he doesn't have to. He still can't let go of Xiaowei. Even if we force him to find someone and get married, it won't end well. It would be irresponsible to the girl. We can't be so selfish."
Grandma Xie sat there silently, looking melancholy.
Fearing that his wife would be depressed, Mr. Xie patiently comforted her, saying, "Honey, things have come to this, let's both think positively. Xiao Zheng is still young. He has already come out of the shadows. In another two years, he might be able to see things clearly. If fate brings him together, he might meet a girl who will win his heart again. Let's try to be more open-minded."
Mr. Xie's words did not ease his wife's expression.
She hesitated for a long time, but finally couldn't help looking at her husband and tentatively saying, "What if Xiao Zheng doesn't like girls?"
"I don't have anyone I like right now, but maybe I will in the future. I'll just leave it to fate."
"What I mean is, what if he's not interested in women?" After a few seconds of hesitation, Mrs. Xie decided to be more direct. "My dear husband, you know, there's an old term... called 'cut sleeve'."
"What do you mean?" Old Xie's eyes widened in surprise, and he almost swept the chess pieces he had just arranged onto the ground.
“Don’t talk nonsense. How could Xiao Zheng be like that?” Old Xie firmly disagreed with his wife’s point of view. He argued, “He liked Xiao Wei since he was a teenager. If Xiao Wei were still alive, they would definitely be married by now.”
However, his wife said, "Youthful love doesn't mean anything. They were all clueless back then. Maybe they just got along well. Xiao Zheng himself didn't even understand what kind of feelings those were."
"But he still can't let go of Xiaowei all these years."
Grandma Xie analyzed, "Because he was closest to Xiao Wei, and she was with them when they went out. Xiao Zheng is kind, so his inability to let go is probably more out of guilt?"
"Honey, what's wrong with you today? Why do you suddenly have such opinions?" Old Xie looked at her in confusion. His intuition told him that his wife wouldn't say these things for no reason.
Grandma Xie glanced in the direction of the door, leaned closer to her husband, and whispered something in his ear.
"What? Are you sure you didn't see wrong?" Old Xie looked at his wife in astonishment and asked incredulously.
Grandma Xie's expression was serious, and her tone was firm, "How could I be wrong? The person is lying in bed."
"I'll go take a look."
Old Xie stood up with a stern face and was about to leave.
But Grandma Xie stopped her, saying, "Don't go. What's the point of seeing it? It'll just make everyone feel awkward."
More than feeling embarrassed, she feared that her rebellious eldest grandson would admit to being different in front of them.
They are not yet able to accept such a bolt from the blue; they need time to process it.
Old Xie was stopped by his wife and sat back down on the sofa, letting out a heavy sigh.
His expression was one of helplessness and despair.
No wonder Old Man Lu said that Xie Zheng claimed to be a non-marriage advocate.
That brat, was he implying something?
Mr. Xie simply could not accept such a thing.
He was a soldier, so it goes without saying that he must be a very upright person.
But at the very least, it has to be straightforward.
He couldn't resist any longer and decided to go out and see for himself.
Just as they were about to enter the courtyard, they saw a figure being escorted out of the gate by Xie Zheng.
Once outside the courtyard, Ye Qingbai explained earnestly, "I'll come back to visit later. I was really presumptuous last night, sleeping so late, I felt really bad about greeting the elders. I'll go call my dad first; they'll probably arrive in Nancheng today."
"It's okay, I'll invite you over for dinner next time."
Ye Qingbo was awakened by the sound of a pager.
When she woke up, she found her legs draped over Xie Zheng again.
Just like last night.
However, Xie Zheng seemed to have gotten used to his sleeping position.
I didn't complain about him today.
Ye Qingbai pressed the pager button and saw several messages from his father calling him.
The message said they arrived in Nancheng today and asked him to call back as soon as possible.
Ye Qingbai got out of bed and left without even saying goodbye to Xie Zheng's grandparents.
He chatted with Xie Zheng until late last night, and accidentally slept in until noon today, which was really impolite.
The Xie family elders were also former soldiers, and as a younger generation, he really dared not appear in front of them in his current state.
Ye Qingbai left in a hurry to make a phone call outside. Xie Zheng rubbed his messy hair, turned around, and went into the gate.
As soon as he entered, he saw his grandfather standing at the entrance of the hall, looking at him with a complicated expression.
"Grandpa, good afternoon." Xie Zheng chuckled. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
