Chapter 21: Bai Zhi's Peach Blossoms Have Arrived Again

Dr. Zhou eventually gave Bai Zhi an advance on her salary. He knew that Bai Zhi was temporarily staying at a relative's house. When she said she wanted to rent a place, Dr. Zhou said, "It's not safe for a young woman like you to rent a place. Don't we have another room in our pharmacy? You can tidy up and move in temporarily. We'll find a place slowly, and we'll talk about it when we find a suitable one."

Bai Zhi hesitated upon hearing this, "But don't you take a nap inside during the day?"

“I’m not that sleepy,” Dr. Zhou said. “If I want to sleep, I can just lie down on the physiotherapy bed for a while. It’s that simple.”

"There are bathhouses and restaurants across the street, so it's quite convenient for you to stay here."

Seeing that Bai Zhi was still hesitant, Doctor Zhou glanced at her and said in a light tone, "If you're afraid I'm a bad person and you won't dare to stay, then just pretend I didn't say anything."

Bai Zhi thought for a moment and nodded, "Then I'll thank you in advance. I'll go back today and tell my relatives."

When Dr. Zhou finished get off work in the afternoon, he packed away all his clothes, shoes, and bedding from the suite, saying that if Bai Zhi wanted to stay, he could get some new bedding and sheets and then she could move in.

After getting off work, Bai Zhi went back to the Lu family home.

If we really want to move out, we need to let Mr. Lu know.

When she arrived at the Lu family home, they already had guests.

As soon as she reached the entrance, she heard an old man's hearty laughter.

"Miss Baizhi is back."

As soon as Zhang Ma called out, the gray-haired old man jumped up from the sofa to greet her. He was much more energetic and vigorous than Old Lu.

"Oh, my granddaughter, you're finally back."

Bai Zhi was completely bewildered by being called "granddaughter" so enthusiastically.

The elderly man introduced himself, "I'm your Grandpa Xie."

"He was also your grandfather's old comrade-in-arms. Your grandfather saved me and Lao Lu back then."

Mr. Lu added with a smile,

"Xiao Zhi, this is Xie Laonian, your Grandpa Xie, and this lady next to me is your Grandma Xie."

Bai Zhi greeted the two elderly people politely, "Hello, Grandpa Xie, hello, Grandma Xie."

Grandma Xie's hair was already gray, her face was kind, and she wore a pair of black-rimmed glasses, making her look like an intellectual. She looked at Bai Zhi and sighed, "This girl has grown so much. I used to hold you when you were little."

"Come and sit down."

Bai Zhi walked over and obediently sat down.

Old Xie looked at her and asked with concern, "I heard from Old Lu that you went out to look for work?"

Bai Zhi nodded, "Yes, Grandpa Xie, I found a job dispensing medicine at a Chinese medicine shop, and today is my first day at work."

"You're such a diligent kid, you went out to work as soon as you arrived in Nancheng."

The Xie couple looked at their hardworking, independent, and self-reliant child with admiration in their eyes.

Bai Zhi said to Elder Lu

"Grandpa Lu, I came here today to tell you that I'm moving to the pharmacy tomorrow, so it will be more convenient for me to commute to and from get off work."

She was also worried about Grandpa Lu's health, and wanted to find an opportunity to persuade him and take his pulse to see what was wrong.

Although they hadn't known each other for long, Grandpa Lu had been so kind to her that she wanted to treat him whenever possible.

Upon hearing her words, Old Master Lu was astonished. "Xiao Zhi, what did you say? You're moving out?"

"right."

Upon hearing that Bai Zhi was moving out, Old Xie's expression instantly changed, and he began to berate Old Lu, "Old Lu, what's going on with your family? What exactly does your Lu Ye mean by this? He hasn't shown up yet, deliberately avoiding us, trying to make this girl give up, is he?"

Old Master Lu was also extremely anxious and didn't know how to explain.

The reason given repeatedly is always "being busy".

He's tired of saying it.

To be honest, not only did Xie Laonian not believe him when he said it, but he himself didn't believe it either.

Grandpa Xie looked at Bai Zhi and said gently, "Xiao Zhi, you'll go back with Grandpa Xie and Grandma Xie today and stay at our Xie family's house."

Bai Zhi waved her hand awkwardly with a smile, "No need, I've already found a job and have a place to stay there, so I won't trouble anyone."

"Xiaozhi, don't think like that. Your grandfather saved our lives, so it's only right that he takes care of you."

The two elderly people kept bringing up the matter of gratitude, which made Bai Zhi very uncomfortable.

She looked at the old man and said sincerely, "Grandpa Xie, you and Grandpa Lu have already taken good care of me and my grandfather. Besides, my grandfather saved people out of camaraderie and as a soldier, it was out of a sense of duty. I believe that you two would have done the same in that situation. There's no need to feel guilty. I'm an adult now, and I can manage my own life."

Bai Zhi is independent and opinionated. Her words made the elderly people look at her with even greater respect.

Grandma Xie, in particular, looked at Bai Zhi with eyes full of admiration.

"Then about your relationship with Lu Ye..." Old Xie asked tentatively.

Bai Zhi interrupted Elder Xie, smiling, "Feelings can't be forced; let nature take its course."

After saying that, she got up to go to the kitchen, saying, "I'll go help Aunt Zhang with the chores first."

As soon as Bai Zhi left, Xie Lao narrowed his wise eyes, pondered for a moment, and then threatened Lu Lao in a serious tone, "Old Lu, since your Lu Ye doesn't know how to cherish things, then I won't be polite."

Old Lu raised an eyebrow, his gaze locked with men's. "What do you want?"

Mr. Xie: "I also have grandsons."

Old Master Lu instantly understood his meaning. He scoffed, "You think your spoiled brat would obediently go home, get married, and have children?"

"You don't need to worry about that," Old Xie said confidently.

Old Lu was startled. Old Xie's irritating manner suggested he might really be trying to steal her away. He immediately warned, "Let me tell you, don't try to play matchmaker. Your brat is no decent person. Don't push this girl into a fire pit."

Grandma Xie smiled and replied, "Uncle, Xiao Zheng has changed a lot now."

"Old habits die hard." Old Lu looked at Old Xie and his wife with a somber expression and said in a serious tone, "I know you think that Xiao Zhi is a well-behaved and sensible girl who is suitable to be your granddaughter-in-law, but you also have to recognize what kind of child you have and not be too selfish."

Old Xie retorted without backing down, "Then aren't you the same? If Lu Ye agreed to this marriage, why hasn't he come back yet? It's obvious he's deliberately avoiding us. And what about Zheng'an and Xiao Yun? Why aren't they coming home either? Their attitude is clear enough. Xiao Zhi is a smart child; she must have sensed that your family doesn't like her, which is why she wants to move out."

“Zhengan and Xiaoshan came back this morning to check on Xiaozhi’s workplace, worried that she might be in danger outside. Xie Yun even bought Xiaozhi new clothes a few days ago. They have already accepted Xiaozhi as their daughter-in-law. Don’t try to sow discord.”

Old Xie, however, did not believe Old Lu's explanation at all. "If that's the case, why did the child move away? I think she was in a bad mood."

Upon hearing Xie Lao's words, Lu Lao looked towards the kitchen.

He actually sensed it too.

Bai Zhi did indeed seem preoccupied.

Did Lu Zheng'an and Lu Shan say something to her at the pharmacy this morning?
