Chapter 16: Don't look at me, I can't cure it.
On the way back, Lu Zheng'an and Xie Yun were so tired that they fell asleep as soon as they got in the car.
Lu Zheng'an leaned his head against Xie Yun's shoulder, and because of his incorrect sleeping posture, he even started snoring.
Bai Zhi originally wanted to tell them that she had found a job, but seeing how tired they all were, she kept quiet.
After returning home, Zhang Ma said she had left some food for Bai Zhi, but she didn't feel hungry, so she went to bed early.
The next morning, she got ready early and prepared to go out. Her family was all home, and Zhang's mother started preparing breakfast very early.
"Aunt Zhang, I won't have breakfast. Please let Grandpa Lu and the others know when they get up. I'm going to work."
Aunt Zhang glanced at the wall clock; it was just past seven. She urged Bai Zhi to stay, saying, "Bai Zhi, breakfast will be ready soon. Eat first, then you can go. There's still plenty of time."
Bai Zhi smiled and said, "Aunt Zhang, no need. I'll go early on my first day at work. I'll just go out and buy a bowl of soy milk."
Zhang Ma had just boiled some eggs and slipped two into her hand.
"Thank you, Aunt Zhang, you're so kind to me." Bai Zhi felt the warm egg in her hand and had an urge to cry.
If her mother were alive, she would be about the same age as Zhang Ma now, and would care about her just as much.
She put the eggs in her pocket and went out. She bought a bowl of soy milk by the roadside and drank it. After walking for nearly half an hour, she arrived at Jirentang Chinese Medicine Shop.
The traditional Chinese medicine shop is not open yet.
Bai Zhi glanced at the digital watch on her wrist; it was 7:40.
The weather was still cool in the morning, so Bai Zhi stood at the entrance of the Chinese medicine shop and did some stretching exercises to keep fit.
However, after exercising for twenty minutes, it was almost 8:30, and Dr. Zhou still hadn't arrived.
Looking at the sun high in the sky, Bai Zhi couldn't help but feel anxious.
It's impossible that Dr. Zhou overslept to this hour.
Is he busy today and not opening the door?
They had agreed yesterday that she should come today, so she can only continue to wait.
She stood by the roadside, watching the crowds of people coming and going, counting the bicycles passing by, feeling more relaxed than ever before.
Having lived two lives, she experienced a highly stressful and fast-paced lifestyle every day. Only now did she truly understand what relaxation meant.
Just as she was standing there basking in the morning sunlight, a sudden, urgent shout reached her ears.
Bai Zhi turned her head and saw an elegant elderly couple across the street squatting in front of a little girl lying there, calling out anxiously.
"Niu Niu, wake up, Niu Niu..."
Seeing this, Bai Zhi didn't have time to think and quickly ran to the other side of the road.
"Grandpa, what's wrong with the child? I'm a doctor, let me take a look."
When the two elderly people heard that the young woman who ran over was a doctor, they anxiously said that their granddaughter had had a seizure and hurriedly stepped aside to let her examine her.
The little girl was foaming at the mouth, her mouth and eyes were crooked, her face was bluish-purple, and the whites of her eyes were rolled back so that the pupils were no longer visible.
Bai Zhi quickly took the pulse, then pulled open the little girl's shirt collar, laid her flat, and took out silver needles to insert them into her philtrum and head.
The old man saw the gleaming silver needles in her hand and asked, "Young lady, are you going to get acupuncture? Are you sure you're confident?"
The old man's voice was trembling.
"Sir, I'm a professional doctor, from Jishengtang across the street, please don't worry."
"Oh, you're a doctor? Please save my granddaughter quickly."
When she gave the sixth injection, the child finally regained consciousness, the problem of facial paralysis gradually improved, and breathing became smoother.
Dr. Zhou, shuffling along in his slippers and humming a tune, slowly stopped his bicycle. He inadvertently caught sight of several figures across from the pharmacy, including one kneeling in front of a child who looked like Bai Zhi.
He shouted, "Bai Zhi, what are you doing?"
Bai Zhi responded, "Dr. Zhou, there's a patient here. Please come and take a look."
Dr. Zhou said "Oh" and walked over. The little girl had basically recovered, but she looked dazed, her eyes were empty, and her reactions were slow.
Epilepsy is like this: each seizure causes significant damage to the brain, and it takes a long time to recover normal consciousness and thinking after a seizure.
Doctor Zhou looked at the silver needles Bai Zhi had put away, surprised, "What's wrong with this child?"
"He had a seizure, I gave him an injection, and he's awake now."
"She's had an epileptic seizure? You woke her up with silver needles?" Doctor Zhou looked at Bai Zhi, whose forehead was covered in sweat, with a strange expression, incredulous.
Bai Zhi looked at the beads of sweat on the child's forehead and said, "Let's take the child to our Chinese medicine shop first. It's too hot here. Let's go inside and talk in detail."
"Thank you, thank you all."
The elderly couple helped the child up, and then the old man carefully picked up the child and followed them to the pharmacy.
Dr. Zhou looked at Bai Zhi and teased, "Bai Zhi, you're here early enough."
"Dr. Zhou, it's not that I arrived early, it's that you arrived too late."
"Look at what you're saying, how is it late? People in regular jobs haven't even clocked in yet, and we're not that sick."
Bai Zhi felt that what Dr. Zhou said made sense; she was used to a fast-paced life and was too proactive at work.
Dr. Zhou opened the door of the pharmacy and asked the two elderly people to put the child on the bench.
The elderly woman introduced herself, saying, "My surname is Gu, and this is my granddaughter. We are so grateful to this young doctor today."
"Uncle Gu, you're welcome."
"Then could you two please take another look at the child? Can you treat this condition?"
Since the girl knew acupuncture, Old Gu felt a glimmer of hope. Perhaps they had found a good traditional Chinese medicine doctor.
Dr. Zhou asked, "What caused the evacuation?"
Bai Zhi said, "It seems like epilepsy."
"Yes, yes, it's epilepsy."
Mr. Gu explained, "This child had a high fever when she was two years old. An overdose of medication triggered epilepsy, but she hasn't had a seizure in a long time. Today, my wife and I took her out for a walk, but we never expected..."
Bai Zhi looked at the sorrowful old man and comforted him, "Grandpa, don't worry, it's not a serious illness, it can be cured."
Upon hearing this, Dr. Zhou coughed heavily twice, his voice coming out through his nose as a reminder, "Don't make exaggerated claims, it's not that easy to cure."
"Can it really be cured?" Old Gu looked at them with his cloudy eyes and asked expectantly, "Young lady, you just gave my granddaughter acupuncture. I thought your technique was more skillful than that of the old doctor. Is this how you cure my granddaughter's illness?"
When Old Gu looked over, Dr. Zhou looked away and refused directly, "I've never treated this disease before, don't look at me."
Several black lines appeared on Bai Zhi's forehead. "!!!"
This week, the doctor won't treat any illnesses; does he just run the pharmacy to read martial arts novels?
