Chapter 779 Speculation

"Who are your parents anyway!" Lin Jiancheng scolded her, displeased that she was siding with Lin Tan so much. "Have you considered how your mother and I feel, being so biased towards an outsider?"

“That’s my own sister,” Lin Ling said directly.

“Just because we’re close now doesn’t mean we’ll be close in the future,” Wu Yuelan said. “Only your father and I are your family for life. Once she gets married, she’ll be an outsider in our family.”

"Oh," Lin Ling replied dismissively. "I was an outsider back then, which was perfect."

Wu Yuelan pretended to be angry and hit her: "You silly girl, what nonsense are you talking about?"

"Am I wrong?" Lin Ling's heart was only for Lin Tan. "If the eldest daughter is an outsider, then am I, the second daughter, an even bigger outsider?"

Lin Jiancheng's chest heaved with anger.

Wu Yuelan's complexion was not good either.

"I really don't know what kind of spell she cast on you," Lin Jiancheng said, puzzled. "It made you side with outsiders."

"I should be asking you that," Lin Ling said, not forgetting why she had come back. "My sister is your daughter, so why are you helping those outsiders bully her?"

Wu Yuelan was about to explain.

Lin Ling spoke first: "They're still cooperating with them to spread rumors about my sister."

"She complained to you?" Wu Yuelan stared at her.

Not many people know about this.

Besides them, there was only Lin Tan.

"Why bother reporting it?" Lin Ling said bluntly. "Everyone around here knows that a few young people came to interview you. It would be hard for them not to know."

Wu Yuelan and Lin Jiancheng exchanged a glance.

She realized that one of her neighbors had become her daughter's spy.

"Do you know that saying those things will cause my sister a lot of trouble?" Lin Ling was very frightened by this, otherwise she wouldn't have rushed back in such a hurry. "If this really blows up, you won't be able to hide the fact that you abused her."

"What nonsense are you spouting, you brat?" Wu Yuelan couldn't possibly admit to that. "When did we mistreat her? Did we starve her or deprive her of clothes?"

"That's too little." Lin Ling didn't give her any face.

Wu Yuelan: "You!"

Lin Ling: "If you continue to collude with outsiders to bully her, I will expose to the world your abuse of her, including not giving her food and preventing her from going to school, the day this is exposed."

"Say that again!" Lin Jiancheng said angrily.

He didn't care how good Lin Ling's relationship with Lin Tan was, as long as her heart was still with the family.

After all, maintaining a good relationship with Lin Tan would make it easier for Lin Tan to give this girl money to spend.

But he would never allow Lin Tan to hold a place in her heart that far surpasses that of her parents. After all, that girl was just an unwanted wild child, and it was absolutely unacceptable for his own daughter to go against him for someone of unknown origin!

“I said…” Lin Ling wasn’t afraid at all.

"Alright." Wu Yuelan quickly interrupted, sensing the awkward atmosphere. "I know you care about your sister, but that girl isn't one of us. You shouldn't upset your dad because of her."

Lin Ling: "?"

Lin Ling said with dissatisfaction, "How can we not be on the same side?"

"Don't ask about it anymore." Wu Yuelan stopped talking about it, not wanting the family to have an unpleasant argument. "Let's go inside first. What do you want to eat for lunch? I'll make it for you."

Lin Ling: "You must first promise not to treat your sister like that again."

Wu Yuelan replied dismissively, "Okay, okay."

Lin Ling: "I'm serious."

Wu Yuelan: "Okay, let's see what we're having for lunch first."

Lin Ling: "Braised pork."

Wu Yuelan: "Okay."

Lin Ling: "I still want the fish that Dad makes."

Lin Jiancheng: "Hmph, weren't you being aggressive towards me just now?"

Lin Ling: "Then I won't eat it."

Lin Jiancheng: "Do it, do it, go wait over there."

Lin Ling said okay.

A short while later.

Lin Jiancheng and Wu Yuelan went into the kitchen to start cooking.

Looking at the two people busy inside, Lin Ling's relaxed expression gradually turned complicated.

She was joking with her sister before, but now she genuinely suspects that her parents hate her sister because of something, or that her sister is her half-sister? Half-sister?

Otherwise, why would my parents treat my older sister so differently from her?

After much deliberation, she decided to investigate first.

The older sister looks a bit like the mother, so they are most likely half-sisters.

Thinking this, after lunch she went behind Lin Jiancheng to massage his back and shoulders. While massaging him, she suddenly stared at his hair and said, "Why do you have a few gray hairs here?"

Lin Jiancheng: "Isn't it because I've been so worried about you?"

Lin Ling: "Let me remove it for you."

As soon as she finished speaking, she started pulling.

She held several strands in her hand.

Half an hour later.

She sent a message to Lin Tan.

Lin Tan was still reading the script, hoping to be in the best possible condition for Monday's re-examination.

I had just finished going through it once when I saw the phone screen light up.

Clicking on it revealed a message from Lin Ling: "Sis, send me a few strands of your hair or some nail clippings."

Lin Tan: [?]

Lin Ling: [I'll get a paternity test done for you and Dad. I suspect you're not their biological child.]

She was very direct.

It was clear that this would not harm Lin Tan.

After all, what Mom and Dad did to my sister was too much. If she could, my sister would definitely wish she wasn't born to them, so that she wouldn't have such a heavy psychological burden.

Just as Lin Tan was about to reply to her message, telling her to go back to school and study hard, Lin Ling called.

The answer was straightforward: "Just give it to me, I've already gotten my hands on Dad's hair."

Lin Tan: "He agreed?"

Lin Ling: "I don't need his permission, I'll remain anonymous."

Lin Tan: "Just by looking at my face, you can tell I was born from a mother."

From childhood to adulthood, many people have said that she looks like her mother.

“Just because Mom gave birth to a child doesn’t mean Dad gave birth to a child.” Lin Ling told her her guess. “Just send it to me, consider it an experiment for me, okay?”

"Okay." Lin Tan agreed with her, treating her as if she were just a child playing around.

Lin Ling: "I'll send the mailing address to your phone."

Lin Tanyi agreed, "Okay."

Lin Ling said vividly, "I love you!"

Lin Tan: "Go back to school as soon as possible."

Lin Ling's voice was tinged with laughter: "Okay, I'm hanging up."

Lin Tan hummed in agreement and ended the call.

Perhaps it was because Lin Ling's voice was too lively.

Or perhaps she was the only one in the family who cared about her.

So much so that after the phone call ended, Lin Tan was lost in thought for a few minutes, her mind filled with past events and her parents' attitudes and words during the penultimate phone call.

Thinking and thinking.

My thoughts drifted further and further away.

It wasn't until Lin Ling sent her a message reminding her not to forget to send the things that she snapped out of her daze.

She replied with an "okay," trimmed her nails, plucked two strands of hair, put them in a bag, and scheduled a delivery.

She spent most of the next day immersed in her work.

She knew very well that her current job came from Qin Mo, and that Qin Jiangye's care for her was largely due to Qin Mo as well. She had to work even harder than before to prove to them that they hadn't misjudged her.

With this in mind, she became even more serious.
