Chapter 674 Should we go find him?
“We are in contact,” Jiang Ruan replied.
Jiang An asked, "Is he injured, or is he regretting losing you?"
Jiang Ruan paused for a moment.
My first thought was that the person was injured.
Because if he said he was so lovesick that he couldn't eat or sleep and was dying, his mother would definitely think Huo Zhizhou was a coward.
But that's just his nature—stubborn and obstinate.
Based on what I've learned so far, if she hadn't contacted him or paid any attention to him, her health would probably be completely ruined by him by now, and she'd be surviving only on IV fluids.
"I'm not really sure," Jiang Ruan said, pursing her lips. "I just noticed that he was in a very bad state, and because of the time difference and past events, I didn't press him for details."
Jiang An looked up.
The moment she met her gaze, she knew her daughter was hiding something.
“If you’re worried, you can go over once you’ve finished your work in the next few days,” Jiang An said. “Qin Mo and Qin Muchuan will probably have to deal with me for quite some time.”
"Didn't he vow never to apologize?" Jiang Ruan asked, puzzled by Qin Muchuan's behavior.
“An apology can be advantageous to him when it comes to sentencing.” Jiang An saw everything clearly. “The more times he does it, the more sincere he seems.”
Jiang Ruan frowned.
My first reaction was to prevent the bodyguards from letting them in.
“Don’t worry about this, I’ll handle it.” Jiang An stood up and came to her, pulling her to sit down. “You go abroad first and take care of Huo Zhizhou’s matter.”
"Didn't we say we'd go after you finished dealing with your business?" Jiang Ruan was still a little worried.
She worried that while she was away, Qin Mo and Qin Muchuan would use conditions to negotiate with her mother. Her mother cared about her and was very likely to agree in order to gain benefits for her.
“There are other things for you to decide after that,” Jiang An said.
Jiang Ruan asked, somewhat puzzled, "What?"
Jiang An: "Li Zhishen wants to take you to the Li Group to familiarize yourself with it."
Jiang Ruan hesitated.
After all that happened, she didn't have much goodwill towards the Li family.
She owns quite a few shareholding companies.
"You can take your time to think about whether you want to go or not, but given Li Zhishen's personality, if you don't go, he'll definitely keep nagging you about it." Jiang An understood this very well and knew Li Zhishen well.
“The Li family and the Qin family don’t get along,” Jiang Ruan said, offering her opinion. “If someone becomes a director of both families at the same time, it might easily cause controversy, and it’s not really appropriate.”
She didn't quite understand it before, nor did she think about it deeply.
Now that I understand a lot, I naturally dare not take shares casually anymore.
“There will definitely be disputes, but he will resolve them.” Jiang An knew this all along, but there are plenty of ways to resolve them if you want to. “If you don’t want to and don’t need to be a shareholder on the surface, just find someone to hold the shares on your behalf, and you can be the one behind the scenes.”
Jiang Ruan fell silent, pressing her light-colored lips together.
Jiang An noticed her change in mood: "You can say whatever you want."
“I don’t want his shares,” Jiang Ruan said.
Jiang An looked puzzled: "What happened?"
Jiang Ruan felt somewhat depressed.
My previous idea of acquiring shares in both companies was a simplistic one.
I figured there would be so much trouble whether I took them or not, so I might as well take them all.
But now that the Li family is out of trouble, no one will treat her the way they did before.
“If I take it, it means I approve of him.” Jiang Ruan did not name him, and her tone was rather heavy. “Approving of him means I have to call him by that title, but I don’t want to.”
Jiang An smiled gently: "Just because of this?"
Jiang Ruan pursed her lips and remained silent.
“Don’t worry, even if you take it and don’t call him Dad, he won’t say anything,” Jiang An said. “On the contrary, he will be very happy if you take it, and he will feel that you are finally willing to get close to him.”
"I don't want to get close to him." Jiang Ruan was a bit stubborn.
Those who understand her know that this is her persistence.
Those who don't understand her will think she's inflexible and stupid.
“But deep down you think he’s not so bad now, is he?” Jiang An said in a very relaxed tone.
Jiang Ruan lowered her head in shame.
Although I hate to admit it, Uncle Li has actually been doing well lately.
Every time she realized she was feeling a little soft-hearted towards him, she would constantly remind herself that he had cheated on her mother, causing her to abort her, forcing her to harden her heart and distance herself from him.
"If you think he's good, accept him. He won't hurt you." Jiang An didn't want her to get caught up in this dilemma. "What happened back then was just a complicated relationship between Mom and him."
“But…” Jiang Ruan couldn’t convince herself.
“To be honest, you and him are practically strangers,” Jiang An said, offering a different perspective. “If you really can’t convince yourself, just think of him as the stepfather I found for you.”
“But you don’t like him,” Jiang Ruan said, “and you don’t plan to remarry him.”
"That's true." Jiang An never tried to hide anything; she was always open and honest.
Jiang Ruan's feelings were complicated.
She didn't want to be so conflicted.
I hope bad people are just bad people and good people are just good people.
However, many things are often a mixture of both; there are no purely bad people or purely good people.
“I’ll have him talk to you when you get back,” Jiang An said. “If he still can’t accept it after we talk, then we’ll let him go as far away as possible.”
Jiang Ruan nodded and said, "Okay."
Jiang An: "There are only three or four days left before Sui Sui goes on holiday. Can you handle your work well in these three or four days?"
Jiang Ruan: "Mm."
Jiang An nodded: "Then you should take him with you every year during your holidays."
Jiang Ruan was still a little hesitant.
Personally, she still hoped to finalize her mother's situation before moving on.
"With something weighing on your mind, you'll feel like you're carrying a heavy burden no matter what you do." Jiang An saw through her thoughts. "Until you settle Huo Zhizhou's matter, you won't be able to focus on handling things here."
I used to space out occasionally a while ago, but these past few days I've been checking my phone frequently.
She doesn't think about it when she's busy, but when she has free time, she unconsciously starts to worry and feel anxious.
This is especially true when someone mentions it.
“I won’t give Qin Muchuan a letter of forgiveness, I assure you that,” Jiang An said.
Jiang Ruan thought for a moment and agreed with her suggestion: "Okay."
Jiang An smiled warmly.
Jiang Ruan: "Then I'll go ask Sui Sui."
Jiang An: "Go ahead."
After their conversation, Jiang Ruan went to Sui Sui's room with mixed feelings.
During this period, Sui Sui didn't ask her about Huo Zhizhou's situation anymore.
Every day after school, he would mysteriously busy himself with something in his little study.
Every time she asked, he would say it was a secret between him and his grandmother, and that he would surprise her after it was all over. Seeing that her mother didn't say anything more, she didn't press the matter further.
Two knocks.
She knocked on Sui Sui's door.
The door opened shortly after, and Sui Sui, looking all soft and cuddly, appeared in the doorway. When he saw that it was Jiang Ruan, his eyes lit up slightly: "Mommy."
"Are you busy?" Jiang Ruan asked. "Mommy wants to talk to you about something."
Sui Sui: "Not busy."
Jiang Ruan pursed her lips, but finally asked, "Has your father contacted you these past few days?"
Sui Sui thought for a moment and said, "Yes, they send me messages every day."
“I’m going to see him in a few days, do you want to come with me?” Jiang Ruan asked him.
