Chapter 447 Lying
"Jiang Ruan," he called her.
Jiang Ruan looked at him without saying anything.
Huo Zhizhou's dark eyes were like the deep black night sky. He looked at her and said, word by word, "I want to ask you a few questions, and I hope you can answer them for me."
"Go ahead," Jiang Ruan said calmly.
Huo Zhizhou: "Lu Yi is not my friend."
Jiang Ruan wanted to say yes.
He had deliberately driven me away to collect interest.
But seeing his sincere inquiry, the words that were on the tip of my tongue became the honest answer: "No."
Huo Zhizhou: "What's my relationship with my brother like?"
Jiang Ruan: "They were vying for power, and there was a little bit of affection involved."
Huo Zhizhou: "Where are my parents?"
Jiang Ruan hesitated.
Huo Zhizhou has now forgotten about Shan Mu'an, and the trap he set for himself has disappeared after losing his memory. If he were to tell him about their past, it would be like reliving the story.
"What's wrong?" Huo Zhizhou asked.
"I'm not really sure," Jiang Ruan said. "I met with them very few times during my marriage, let alone got to know them. You can judge for yourself."
"Thank you," Huo Zhizhou said.
Jiang Ruan paused for a moment.
I find his statement baffling.
Huo Zhizhou stood up and walked up to her, gently rubbing her head with his large, warm hand, and said with a hint of possessiveness, "My former wife."
Jiang Ruan's expression froze for a moment.
The next second.
"Smack!"
She knocked his hand away.
The force was so strong that a red mark appeared on Huo Zhizhou's fair hand almost instantly.
"Aren't you silly?" Huo Zhizhou smiled intimately. "Why did you have to hit me with your hand of any of the cups, books, or folders over there? Doesn't it hurt?"
For a fleeting moment, Jiang Ruan had the illusion that she was dating Huo Zhizhou.
When we first got together, he was just like he is now.
Gentle and delicate, he effortlessly dissolved her anger.
“Mr. Huo, please have some self-respect.” Jiang Ruan stood up abruptly, concealing all emotion in her eyes, which unconsciously widened the distance between them. “We are already divorced.”
"I'm sorry," Huo Zhizhou apologized quickly, "I was being presumptuous."
Jiang Ruan gave him the order to leave: "You should go now."
Huo Zhizhou: "Okay."
He didn't linger. His gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he turned and left. At the door, he suddenly stopped, turned around, and asked a question Jiang Ruan hadn't expected: "Besides you, who else can I trust?"
Jiang Ruan was stunned for a moment.
I didn't realize his words had such a wide range.
"Or rather, is there anyone else I can trust for the time being?" he asked again.
"Si Ning, Jiang Yu, Lin Bei, Lin Feng, Gu Shixi..." Jiang Ruan told him about the most important people in her life, but that was all she could do.
Huo Zhizhou: "Okay."
After saying that, he didn't stay any longer. He went downstairs and spent some time with Sui Sui before saying goodbye to the elders.
Jiang Ruan watched him leave from upstairs.
As she watched him get into the car, a mix of emotions welled up in her eyes.
She didn't take what he had just said seriously. Rather than believing her, she preferred to believe that he was here to gather information so that he could distinguish between truth and falsehood.
That was indeed Huo Zhizhou's initial thought.
But after meeting Jiang Ruan, he changed his mind. Call him love-struck or brainless, he unconditionally believed everything Jiang Ruan said.
Back at the hotel.
He pulled up a few numbers from his memo and dialed them.
These numbers were collected over the past two weeks from people who might be connected to him, including those Jiang Ruan mentioned.
beep……
After several phone calls...
Jiang Yulin's phone was either switched off or went unanswered.
Just as he was about to call Gu Shixi, there was a knock on the hotel room door, followed by Lu Ershao's voice: "Huo Er, you're back?"
Huo Zhizhou opened the door: "What's up?"
"How did the meeting with Jiang Ruan go?" Young Master Lu asked as he walked in, his demeanor completely at ease.
Huo Zhizhou: "It's alright."
Lu Er: "What did you talk about?"
Huo Zhizhou walked to the sofa and sat down, crossing his legs and resting his hands naturally on the armrests: "She said you're not my friend."
“Your brother was right.” Young Master Lu took a drag of his cigarette, his voice soft and natural. “Did she also say that I’m untrustworthy and that your brother is lying to you?”
Huo Zhizhou did not speak.
Young Master Lu flicked his cigarette ash: "That's just the kind of person she is. She can't stand to see you doing well. The main reason your brother asked me to come with you is because he's afraid you'll be deceived by her words."
"Then why did he still send me?" Huo Zhizhou asked.
"You want to regain your memories, can he stop you?" Young Master Lu stubbed out his cigarette and fiddled with his phone in his other hand. "He wants you to recover your memories as soon as possible, so you can know who truly cares about you."
"And who is Jiang Yugu Shixi?" Huo Zhizhou continued to ask, his gaze fixed on him the entire time.
Lu Er looked up: "Jiang Ruan told you?"
Huo Zhizhou: "Mm."
Lu Er asked, "What did she say?"
Huo Zhizhou didn't hide anything: "They are people I can trust."
Lu Er: "You believe it?"
"I didn't believe you." Huo Zhizhou rarely lied, but his expression remained calm, without a trace of deception. "Right now, I don't trust anyone but myself."
"Don't you like her?" Lu Er noticed the contradiction.
Huo Zhizhou countered, "Does liking someone mean you have to believe everything they say?"
Lu Er paused.
Some things came to mind.
After a brief moment of hesitation, he smiled and said, "That's true."
“Jiang Yu and Gu Shixi have both done things that have wronged you,” Lu Er told him. “You haven’t told me the specifics of what happened. You can investigate slowly after we return to Jingzhou.”
Huo Zhizhou hummed in agreement and said nothing more.
Lu Er stood up, walked over to him, and patted him on the shoulder: "I know you're eager to regain your memories, but don't be fooled by those with ulterior motives. Think things through and investigate more."
"Okay," Huo Zhizhou agreed quickly.
"Get some rest." Young Master Lu didn't linger and went back to his room after saying this.
The moment the door closed.
He tapped the phone screen to turn it on.
The screen clearly showed his phone call with Huo Sinian.
He put the phone on speakerphone: "You heard what I just said, right?"
"I thought Jiang Ruan wouldn't bother with these things after falling out with him." Huo Sinian was still at the company at the moment, thinking about what he had just heard, and felt that things were getting a little out of his control. "I didn't expect her to still be willing to talk to Zhizhou."
Sometimes he didn't know whether it was envy or something else.
Despite their huge fight, they can still get along peacefully.
“I didn’t expect this either,” Lu Er said. “After Qiao Qiao and I had a falling out, she didn’t even want to see me. If she knew I had amnesia, she would probably tell me a lot of false information.”
Lin Tan's image appeared in Huo Sinian's mind.
And her?
I'd guess he's similar to Lu Er.
If he lost his memory like Zhizhou, given her personality, she would probably run as far away as possible and pretend she never knew him.
