Chapter 295 Only You Can Save Yourself
When Jiang Ruan arrived at the hospital, she learned that it was Su Anran. Her heart, which had been in her throat, was finally at ease, but at the same time, a strange feeling arose within her.
"Your friend jumped into the river, but luckily a kind person found her and rescued her." The doctor explained the situation to her while handing her some papers. "These are her fees; please go and pay them."
Jiang Ruan: "I'm not..."
The doctor interrupted her: "Go quickly, she's still not out of danger. I'll go check on her first."
Jiang Ruan stared at the payment slip in her hand for a long time without moving it.
After a while.
She took out her phone and called Mo Mo: "Find out Su Anran's parents' contact information and send it to me when you find it."
Mo Mo: "Okay."
Su Anran was wheeled back to her ward half an hour later.
Jiang Ruan immediately explained the situation to the doctor, stating that she was not her friend, but the treatment had already ended and no one had paid the fees. The hospital was vague and didn't discuss the details with her.
“You are the emergency contact on her phone, how could you not be a friend?”
"Don't worry, her condition isn't too serious. She's out of danger now and will wake up in a little while."
"Could you help us contact her family?"
After several rounds of negotiations, Jiang Ruan was forced to stay here.
Looking at the person lying on the hospital bed, a few suspicions arose in her heart. For a moment, she wondered if this was a scheme deliberately set up by Su Anran so that she could come to see her.
But upon closer reflection, it seems unlikely.
No one would treat their life so lightly; what if no one saved her and she really died?
While she was thinking about these things, Mo Mo found out Su Anran's parents' contact information and sent it to her. Jiang Ruan clicked on one of the numbers and called. The call was answered shortly after, and a groggy middle-aged man's voice said, "Who is it! Are you crazy to call in the middle of the night?"
"Are you Su Anran's father?" Jiang Ruan asked.
"I'd love to be that little slut's father, but she wouldn't even look at me." The other person's words were flippant. "What do you want? Is she getting married? Or has her biological father acknowledged her?"
Jiang Ruan remained silent for a while before hanging up the phone.
If someone can address their daughter like that, they probably wouldn't come to the hospital.
She made another call, and after exchanging greetings and explaining the situation, You Lanqing immediately started cursing angrily: "Stop giving me this nonsense, don't think I'll believe her little tricks."
"Tell her that even if she's sentenced to life imprisonment, or even if she's sentenced to death, she still has to marry me!"
"If you're going to die, have the wedding first, then die."
Jiang Ruan didn't say another word and hung up without hesitation.
She knew that Su Anran's family was poor and her parents treated her badly when she was in college, but she didn't expect it to be this bad.
While I was thinking about these things, I suddenly received a message from Su Zhu on my phone, asking if I had time tomorrow to go shopping with her to relax.
She replied.
Su Zhu: "Why aren't you asleep yet?"
Jiang Ruan: "At the hospital."
Su Zhu: "???"
Su Zhu: "You went with Huo Zhizhou again?"
Su Zhu complained, "Isn't this guy a bit too calculating? He won't let you sleep and rest at home in the middle of the night and instead makes you go to the hospital to watch over him. Does he really think he's the emperor?"
“It wasn’t Huo Zhizhou.” Jiang Ruan hadn’t expected things to turn out this way. “It was Su Anran.”
She recounted what had happened that evening to her.
They haven't been able to find a suitable person to take over, so leaving is quite difficult.
“You’re not stupid,” Su Zhu blurted out.
Jiang Ruan: "..."
Su Zhu spoke very naturally: "Why don't you call my cheap old man? Although Su Anran is not included in the Su family's genealogy, she is still his daughter by blood. Let him take care of her."
Jiang Ruan paused for a moment.
I haven't even considered this matter.
"Forget it, you'd probably be too embarrassed to call anyway." Su Zhu didn't care about these things at all. "I'll call him."
Su Zhu acted immediately.
A minute later, she messaged Jiang Ruan: "He'll arrive in about forty minutes."
Jiang Ruan wanted to ask if this would make her sad, but then she thought that Su Zhu lived a very pure life and Su Anran's existence would not have any impact on her. She was just worrying too much.
"You've come." A weak voice came from the hospital bed.
Jiang Ruan looked in the direction of the sound.
Su Anran opened her eyes, her face looking terrible.
"I'm sorry to meet you this way," Su Anran said weakly.
Jiang Ruan sat waiting for her uncle to arrive. Seeing her fragile and disheveled appearance, she couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you afraid you'll really die?"
“I was originally planning to die.” Su Anran’s voice was hollow, and her eyes were dull and lifeless. “But before I jumped, I thought that if I didn’t die, someone would have to take care of me, so I set your phone number as my emergency contact.”
Jiang Ruan frowned slightly.
Hearing her speak so casually stirred up a feeling within me.
"Do you want to die?"
“There’s no point in living.” Su Anran seemed genuinely indifferent to those things. “All that awaits me is endless trouble from my parents and a life sentence from Huo Zhizhou.”
“It won’t be that bad,” Jiang Ruan analyzed rationally. “If all the property is returned, the maximum sentence will be a few years.”
"Jiang Ruan." Su Anran didn't care about any of this.
Jiang Ruan looked up at her.
Looking at her, Su Anran's eyes were filled with both melancholy and longing: "Do you know how much I envy you?"
Jiang Ruan did not answer.
“I still remember the day your parents brought you to university. I’ve never received such meticulous care and advice in my life,” Su Anran said. “Not to mention you have such a good family background.”
Jiang Ruan waited for her to speak.
I wasn't particularly moved by this.
“If I were you, I could be more successful than you,” Su Anran said.
"Perhaps." Jiang Ruan never makes decisions about paths she hasn't taken before, always assuming that other people's paths are easier, but only when she's actually there does she realize that each path has its own unique hardships.
"I'm sorry," Su Anran said.
Jiang Ruan slightly raised her eyes.
Su Anran's heart calmed down: "All the troubles that the past and present have caused you."
Jiang Ruan didn't speak again.
Some things can't be resolved with just an apology. The bullying and spreading of rumors caused her immense psychological damage, almost leading to mental health issues.
“But I’m still jealous of you.” Su Anran said sincerely, “You’ve had good parents, good friends, and a good husband, while I only have an endless abyss.”
She hated the injustices of the world.
Why is it that, even though they are both human, everything about her is so different from Jiang Ruan's by so many years?
"You sought out Huo Zhizhou to have him save you?" Jiang Ruan suddenly realized something.
"Yes." Su Anran readily admitted, "Only by finding a powerful and influential person to rely on can I get rid of my parents' control and endless harassment."
"Have you ever considered that the person who pulled you out of the abyss might lead you into another darkness?" Jiang Ruan hoped she could face this issue squarely. "The only one who can truly save you is yourself."
