Chapter 187 Jiang An Awakens

That evening.

Jiang Ruan was sitting face-to-face with Huo Zhizhou, eating.

Her phone suddenly rang urgently. Seeing that it was Xu Jiu calling, Jiang Ruan answered without hesitation: "Aunt Xu."

Huo Zhizhou had no idea what Xu Jiu and Jiang Ruan had said to each other.

As Jiang Ruan continued to eat for longer periods while on the phone, intense emotions welled up in his eyes.

"Are you... telling the truth?" Jiang Ruan felt such intense emotions churning in her chest for the first time.

"Why would I lie to you about something like this?" Xu Jiu didn't even mind her using the polite form of address. "Take your time coming over, and keep your emotions in check, okay?"

How could ginger possibly remain stable?

She quickly put down her chopsticks, grabbed her phone, and ran outside.

He turned back after only two seconds, grabbed a car key, and left. The car started faster than ever before.

Huo Zhizhou: "?"

Just as Huo Zhizhou was about to chase after her, his phone rang. When he answered, it was Dr. Zhou reporting the news: "Mr. Huo, Jiang An has woken up."

When Huo Zhizhou went out, he only saw the taillights of Jiang Ruan's car. He immediately had someone drive another car to chase after her. He never expected that she could be so impatient.

Jiang Ruan was in a state of extreme excitement.

While waiting at the traffic light, my mind was filled with what I would say to my mother when I saw her later, and my hands gripping the steering wheel were covered in a thin layer of sweat.

That heart was beating faster than ever.

The traffic light is on.

She stepped on the gas and sped off toward the hospital.

She drove a 30-40 minute journey in just over 20 minutes. As soon as she got out of the car and closed the door, she ran towards the inpatient department. The whole process was fast and urgent. When she arrived at the ward door, she was panting and her hair and clothes were slightly disheveled.

Her gaze passed through the doctors and nurses in the room and landed on the person on the hospital bed who had opened their eyes.

"Check their level of consciousness first."

"Can you hear me? Blink or nod."

"Move your fingers or lift your leg to check the movement of your limbs."

"How are you feeling? Is there anything that's bothering you?"

The doctor's voice gradually reached her ears, but all Jiang Ruan could see was her mother's slightly haggard yet extremely familiar face. She dared not blink, afraid that if she blinked, everything in front of her would just be a dream.

The next second.

Jiang An seemed to sense something and looked towards the door.

Their eyes met.

Jiang Ruan's anxious heart finally broke down, her nose stung, her eyes quickly reddened, and her body trembled slightly.

Mom really woke up.

Everyone noticed the change in Jiang An's expression. They subconsciously followed her gaze and saw that it was Jiang Ruan. Dr. Zhou came over to talk to her: "Your mother still needs to do cranial imaging, EEG, blood tests, etc., for the time being..."

"I know, you guys do it." Jiang Ruan sniffed. "I'll just stay here and watch her so I won't bother you."

Dr. Zhou: "Don't worry, you won't be drowsy this time."

Jiang Ruan's nose started to sting again: "Mmm!"

Huo Zhizhou arrived at that moment, glanced at Jiang Anshi who was surrounded by doctors and nurses, and asked Dr. Zhou, "How is the situation?"

"The basic examination is fine, and rehabilitation exercises will be needed next," Dr. Zhou told us truthfully. "As for the rest, we will have to wait for the examination reports and comprehensive evaluation before we can determine the outcome."

"Okay." Huo Zhizhou didn't delay. "All the examination departments have been arranged. Just go directly there."

With this statement...

Jiang An completed the examination as quickly as possible.

Jiang Ruan stayed with him the whole time, and even though Dr. Zhou said he wouldn't fall into a coma again, she was still worried.

"Why are you crying over something so happy?" Xu Jiu came over and nudged her with her elbow, but she seemed much calmer.

Jiang Ruan stared at the closed examination room, her heart churning with a mix of emotions: "This is called crying tears of joy."

Xu Jiu: "It wasn't tears of joy."

Jiang Ruan glanced sideways.

Xu Jiu smiled slightly: "It's something lost and then regained."

Jiang Ruan looked at the door again, her gaze seemingly able to see through it and into the scene inside.

That's right.

It was lost and then regained.

After a while.

Jiang Ruan suddenly turned to look at Huo Zhizhou, who had been by her side the whole time: "You go back first later. I'm going to stay with my mother at the hospital tonight."

Huo Zhizhou: "It's okay, I'll stay with you."

Jiang Ruan: "No need."

Huo Zhizhou did not speak.

His attitude made it clear that he was determined to stay by her side.

Half an hour later, Jiang An finished all her tests and was wheeled back to her ward. Jiang Ruan and the others came to her side after the doctor finished giving her instructions. Looking at the person who was looking at her with open eyes and tenderness, Jiang Ruan's emotions, which she had been holding back, gradually surged up again.

“Good boy…” Jiang An said.

Her voice was weak, and her pronunciation was not very clear.

But Jiang Ruan still knew that behind that word was a message telling her not to cry, that her mother was there.

Jiang Ruan rushed over and hugged her, burying her head in the crook of her neck, and called out to her in a trembling voice, "Mom."

Jiang An reached out and hugged her back.

Normally, someone who has been in a coma for several years would not be able to lift their arms and hug someone as soon as they wake up. But during those years, the hospital caregivers helped her move her hand and foot joints every day, which is how she was able to hug someone.

Seeing this scene, Xu Jiu spoke up: "If you had woken up two more years later, this girl might have fallen ill from longing."

Jiang An patted Jiang Ruan's back, his eyes filled with clear tenderness and care.

"Mom," Huo Zhizhou called out.

Jiang An looked up at him.

Their eyes swept over him for a moment.

Even though he hadn't said a word, Huo Zhizhou felt a pang of guilt under that gaze.

Feeling guilty?

He expressed his incomprehension of this emotion.

"Thank you," Jiang An said after looking at it for a while.

“We don’t talk about these things as family.” Huo Zhizhou was as sincere as ever. “I’ve already spoken to the rehabilitation department. They will develop a detailed rehabilitation plan for you once the examination report is available.”

Jiang An's speech wasn't quite fluent yet: "Okay."

Huo Zhizhou glanced at Jiang Ruan, who was still clinging to him, and pursed his thin lips.

Xu Jiu knew her daughter very well, and when no one was talking, she said to Huo Zhizhou, "Ruan Ruan and I will take care of An An here. You go back and get some rest."

Just as Huo Zhizhou was about to refuse, his phone rang.

It was Su Anran calling.

Seeing this, he frowned almost imperceptibly and glanced at Jiang An. He used to be able to answer the phone without any emotion, but now, under his mother-in-law's gaze, he seemed unsure how to handle the situation.

At the same time, there was a knock on the door.

Everyone looked in the direction of the sound.

Li Zhishen was standing outside the door in a suit. Judging from his clothes and appearance, he had dressed up carefully before coming.

He met Jiang An's gaze across the air on the hospital bed, his eyes swirling with a mix of emotions: "An'an..."

"Get lost." Jiang An said it simply.

Xu Jiu smiled.

No wonder she's her daughter.

Even after being in a coma for more than three years, his personality remained unchanged.

Huo Zhizhou held his phone, which was still ringing, and his heart tightened involuntarily...
