Chapter 161 I Just Want to Be Good to You
"You guys go back first." Jiang Ruan put all her emotions to the back of her mind, her mind now only focused on completing the task assigned by the master. "I'll rest at the company tonight."
Xue Qian wanted to offer some advice.
Jiang Ruan spoke first: "We are here on behalf of Yuan Yi. If we fail to complete the assigned tasks, it will inevitably affect the company's reputation."
"But what will I do for work and study tomorrow if I don't rest?" Xue Qian was a little worried.
"The task should be completed around four or five o'clock." Jiang Ruan glanced at the time and estimated the progress. "I can still get some sleep."
Xue Qian wanted to say something more, but Jiang Ruan persuaded her to leave.
The consequences of her mistake cannot be made to make others bear the responsibility.
Ten minutes later.
She was the only one left in the company.
She turned off all the other lights in the office, leaving only a desk lamp on.
Perhaps she was pushed to the limit, or perhaps she was afraid of damaging the company's reputation, she unconsciously abandoned her previous emotions and thoughts and focused on her work.
It was at this moment that I realized that the saying on the internet was true: working people don't even have time to be sad.
She cried loudly throughout the night.
I adjusted my mood and went back to work the next day.
For the next few hours, Jiang Ruan focused intently on completing the tasks assigned by the expert. She didn't want people to say that she got into the company because of Huo Zhizhou's connections, and she didn't want Huo Zhizhou to say that she was worthless.
She is self-reliant and can support herself.
She has basic survival skills.
Jiang Ruan worked overtime downstairs for as long as Huo Zhizhou waited for her upstairs. The only place in the entire building with a faint light was the two of them; the rest of the building was pitch black.
Jiang Ruan finished her manuscript at around 4:40 a.m.
After saving the finished product, she turned off the computer, took her phone and bag to the lounge, set an alarm for eight o'clock, found a sofa, curled up on it, and went to sleep.
Overwhelmed by emotions and exhausted from work, she fell asleep shortly after lying down. As her even breathing was heard, the door to the break room opened.
Huo Zhizhou walked in.
He was wearing a white shirt, and his perfect features looked a little tired at that moment.
Feeling the slightly high temperature in the lounge, he turned on the air conditioner and adjusted it to a comfortable temperature. He then covered her with his suit jacket, which was draped over his arm, to keep her warm.
After finishing all that, he sat down next to her, his gaze tracing every inch of her skin.
He didn't understand why she was so stubborn.
She doesn't have to go to work because she's with him.
No need to stay up late.
She can do whatever she likes without having to struggle like this for such a small amount of money.
"Why can't you be obedient?" Huo Zhizhou murmured, a tightness pressing down on his chest. "Why do you have to suffer these kinds of hardships that you don't have to endure?"
Jiang Ruan was fast asleep and was unaware of his arrival and what he said.
7:55 a.m.
Huo Zhizhou woke up first.
After using her fingerprint to unlock the door and glancing at her alarm set for 8 a.m., he turned off the air conditioner early, took the suit jacket covering her at 5:59 a.m., and left the lounge as if he had never been there.
The alarm clock rang precisely at eight o'clock.
Jiang Ruan rubbed her sleepy eyes and groggily sat up from the sofa. Just as she was about to wash up, she suddenly smelled an extremely familiar scent.
She sniffed.
It's very similar to the natural, refreshing fragrance that Huo Zhizhou carries.
Before she could figure it out, her phone rang. It was Xue Qian: "Where are you? I brought you breakfast, come and have some."
"Right away." Jiang Ruan quickly straightened her clothes and went out.
Xue Qian gave her breakfast.
Jiang Ruan gratefully said thank you.
"Did you stay up all night with President Huo last night?" Xue Qian asked casually.
Jiang Ruan: "?"
Jiang Ruan took a sip of milk: "What do you mean?"
"When I came in, I saw President Huo leaving from here." Xue Qian was just chatting with her. "He was carrying a coat, and his shirt didn't look like he had just changed; it was slightly wrinkled."
Jiang Ruan paused in her breakfast, her mind drifting back to the smell she had caught when she woke up.
He didn't leave last night?
"What's wrong?" Xue Qian asked.
“He probably just came in to check on things.” Jiang Ruan’s mood was slightly affected. “I didn’t see him when I was sleeping, and I didn’t see him when I woke up.”
She felt that Huo Zhizhou was a rather contradictory person.
He treats her badly on one hand, but secretly treats her well on the other.
If he truly cared for her, why couldn't he let her leave and grant her a free future?
Xue Qian nodded, not saying much about that, but more concerned about something else: "Have you finished your drawing?"
Jiang Ruan: "It's done."
After a brief conversation, the two focused on eating breakfast. After finishing, Jiang Ruan washed up, constantly splashing cold water on her face. Having stayed up most of the night, her mind was foggy and she desperately needed to wake up.
Huo Zhizhou was in a similar state to hers, but he was able to force himself to stay awake and work.
"Why don't you get some more sleep? I'll reschedule the meeting for the afternoon." Assistant Jiang knew he had stayed up late last night.
"No need." Huo Zhizhou's expression was indifferent, his spirits were no different from usual. "I have things to do this afternoon."
Since he had already said that, Assistant Jiang couldn't say anything more.
For the rest of the day, Jiang Ruan was busy with her own things, and Huo Zhizhou was also busy with the group's work. Both of them were tired to varying degrees, but neither of them contacted the other.
That afternoon, Jiang Ruan and Xue Qian finished their early shift.
Exhausted, she just wanted to get back to the hotel and lie down, but unexpectedly she ran into Huo Zhizhou in the hotel elevator. Seeing that he was squeezing into the VIP elevator instead of using the one reserved for VIPs, Jiang Ruan's aloofness was very obvious.
bite.
We've reached the eighteenth floor.
Xue Qian and Jiang Ruan walked out together. The former went out, while the latter was blocked by Huo Zhizhou.
"What are you doing?" Jiang Ruan met his gaze.
Huo Zhizhou glanced at Xue Qian, who was blocking the elevator door from closing.
Xue Qian: "..."
Xue Qian weakly withdrew her hand.
The elevator doors closed again, and the elevator ascended to the nineteenth floor.
“I know you came to the lounge last night.” Seeing that he didn’t speak, Jiang Ruan took the initiative to say, “But I won’t change my mind. No matter how many good things you do for me in secret, it won’t affect my determination to leave you.”
Huo Zhizhou stared at her with his dark eyes, his expression unchanged.
Just when Jiang Ruan thought she had angered him, he spoke up: "Do you know why I came and left quietly without letting you know?"
“I know.” Jiang Ruan said, her words sharp and merciless. “You want to alleviate your guilt and make up for the mistakes you’ve made.”
"You're wrong," Huo Zhizhou said.
Jiang Ruan looked up and met his gaze.
If it's not this, then what is it?
“Because I know that once you find out, you will say these hurtful things like you are now.” Huo Zhizhou felt that Jiang Ruan’s heart was quite hard. “I just want to be good to you, and I don’t want you to misinterpret it as anything else.”
