Chapter 157 Revisiting the Past

Xue Qian: "!!!"

Xue Qian's mind was severely shaken.

"Can I have it now?" Assistant Jiang put away Huo Zhizhou's marriage certificate, his tone as steady as before.

“But…” Xue Qian swallowed back the words she was about to say, looking at him with suspicion, “Since Jiang Ruan is President Huo’s wife, why didn’t he drink for her at the dinner table just now?”

Assistant Jiang lied without hesitation: "My wife wants to work independently and is trying to avoid suspicion from the boss."

A few question marks appeared on Xue Qian's forehead.

It's obvious they don't really believe in this.

"If you don't believe me, you can look at her chat history with the BOSS." Assistant Jiang thought for the umpteenth time that his BOSS was brilliant and had foreseen all of this. "You can unlock it with her fingerprint."

That's all I have to say.

It would be hard for Xue Qian not to believe it.

Before handing Jiang Ruan over to Assistant Jiang, she called out to the person in her arms, "Jiang Ruan, President Huo wants to take you to his place. Are you going?"

“Go…” Jiang Ruan was still somewhat conscious; she remembered Huo Zhizhou’s threat.

If she doesn't go, he'll come down and knock on her door.

She didn't want anyone to know about her relationship with him.

They got divorced immediately.

Seeing that Jiang Ruan agreed, Xue Qian did not force her to stay. However, not knowing what kind of person Assistant Jiang was, she did not hand Jiang Ruan over to him directly, but instead accompanied him to Huo Zhizhou's door.

"Thank you." Huo Zhizhou's words came from the heart, showing that he could see Xue Qian's thoughtfulness.

"She's a little drunk and needs some hangover soup." Xue Qian was still a bit worried and gave a few more instructions, "Should we go to the front desk or have someone buy it for her?"

Huo Zhizhou was quite patient with these matters: "Okay."

Xue Qian opened her mouth, glanced at Jiang Ruan, and then turned and left without saying anything more.

Assistant Jiang watched her leave until her figure disappeared from sight before he said to Huo Zhizhou, "Xue Qian is very good to his wife. She was wary of me the whole time she came up here."

"Is she the eldest daughter of the Xue family who was kicked out when she was five or six years old?" Huo Zhizhou had read all the information about the people around Jiang Ruan.

Jiang, Special Assistant: "Yes."

Huo Zhizhou: "See what she needs and secretly give her some help."

"Okay." Assistant Jiang did as instructed.

Huo Zhizhou led Jiang Ruan into the room, and Assistant Jiang considerately closed the door.

A hangover soup had been prepared in the room. Huo Zhizhou placed Jiang Ruan on the living room sofa and gently fed her the hangover soup with a spoon until she finished the whole bowl before carrying her to the bed.

As usual, I changed her into a comfortable set of pajamas and gave her a quick wash.

For the next few hours, he sat on the single sofa by the window working, while Jiang Ruan fell into a deep sleep in bed.

She didn't wake up until after 11 p.m.

Looking at the pitch-black surroundings, she rubbed her head, which felt heavy and dizzy. Thinking she was in her own home, she used the lights of the tall buildings outside the window to grope her way out of bed to the bathroom.

I had only taken two steps when I noticed a computer light and a figure by the window.

Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that the person was Huo Zhizhou.

"Awake?" Huo Zhizhou stood up and turned on the soft light. Seeing that her eyes were still a little unfocused, he asked, "Is your head still spinning?"

Jiang Ruan nodded subconsciously.

More than just dizzy.

It was almost like the world was spinning.

She went to the restroom first before coming out, her mind a complete blank, and asked him, "How did I end up here?"

"Don't you remember?" Huo Zhizhou asked.

Just as Jiang Ruan was about to ask him what he should remember, everything that happened after she got out of the car flashed through her mind, including the time when Assistant Jiang took out the marriage certificate and handed it to Xue Qian.

Judging from her expression, Huo Zhizhou knew that she remembered.

"Why did you tell Xue Qian about our marriage?" Jiang Ruan was still feeling the effects of the alcohol.

“If I don’t tell her, she won’t hand you over to me,” Huo Zhizhou said calmly, his reasoning quite sound. “If she doesn’t hand you over to me, I’ll have to go down and knock on your door to find you, and then it won’t just be her who knows.”

Jiang Ruan wanted to refute.

But from a certain perspective, there's nothing wrong with what he did.

"If you're still dizzy, go back to sleep." Huo Zhizhou glanced at his watch. "I told Xue Qian that if anyone else asks about you, just say your friend came looking for you and you went to her place."

"What did you call me here for?" Jiang Ruan walked to a chair and sat down, getting to the point.

“We haven’t finished talking about that matter from before.” Huo Zhizhou walked to the sofa in front of her, looking at her with unfathomable eyes. “I want to have a proper talk with you.”

He considered discussing it in Jingzhou.

But Jiang Ruan wouldn't give him that chance; she'd leave work and lock the door when she got home.

They completely isolated him from the outside world.

“There’s nothing to talk about.” Jiang Ruan knew what he meant, and her attitude was firm. “You were so decisive when you signed, so you should be just as decisive now.”

"I'm just going along with you and playing along," Huo Zhizhou said.

“That’s not playing along with me.” Jiang Ruan was very clear-headed and pointed out his true thoughts sharply. “You just want to see me suffer after leaving you, hit a wall and then come back to beg you, so as to satisfy your wicked desires.”

Huo Zhizhou pursed his thin lips.

Jiang Ruan gave him a relatively calm reply: "But I'm doing very well. I can live happily even without you."

"Are you really happy?" Huo Zhizhou asked.

"Happy," Jiang Ruan replied.

“If you were truly happy, you wouldn’t have broken down and cried in my arms last time,” Huo Zhizhou pointed out her weakness. “You wouldn’t be going to the hospital every day to see your mother and seek emotional support.”

Jiang Ruan paused for a moment.

An emotion flickered deep within his eyes.

Outsiders all thought she went to the hospital out of filial piety, but only she knew that besides hoping her mother would wake up soon, the main reason she went there was to find spiritual support.

Her daily muttering to herself became her way of venting her stress.

"Su Anran has been kind to me, and I promised to take care of her for the rest of my life." Huo Zhizhou wanted to resolve the matter peacefully and took the initiative to explain, "Apart from that, there is no other relationship."

"What does this have to do with me?" Jiang Ruan retorted.

Huo Zhizhou's eyes darkened slightly: "I want to have a proper talk with you. You can make any requests you have."

“From beginning to end, I’ve only had one request,” Jiang Ruan said firmly. “That is divorce.”

Huo Zhizhou parted his thin lips slightly: "You know it's impossible."

Jiang Ruan: "Then there's nothing to talk about."

Silence fell between the two.

They stared at each other, neither willing to back down.

The atmosphere reached a stalemate, with one stubbornly refusing to admit defeat and the other remaining silent and unyielding.

After a while, Huo Zhizhou stood up, his demeanor more distant than before: "Think carefully about what demands you want these next few days. Once the divorce application is automatically withdrawn, I will bring you and Sui Sui back to Ruanyuan."

"Why should I?" Jiang Ruan stood up.

"Because you are my wife and children, we should live together as a family." Huo Zhizhou said confidently, "If you don't want to go back to Ruanyuan, I can go to Fengyue Huating and squeeze into that small room with you."
