Brotherhood in Perilous Situations (Bonus Chapter)
At 1 p.m. sharp, the signal flares for the start of the exercise exploded in the sky above the back hill, one red and one blue, standing out conspicuously.
Just as Lu Chen had predicted, Qin Feng indeed dispatched a five-man squad to launch a feint attack from the main road. Gunfire and smoke grenades quickly shattered the silence of the forest.
The temporary leader of the Blue Team, who was stationed on the high ground, immediately mobilized most of his troops to the front line to defend it.
Meanwhile, at the foot of the cliff on the west side, Qin Feng led his ten most elite team members and began their climb silently.
He looked up at the steep cliff face and a cold smile appeared on his lips.
Lu Chen, so what if you're incredibly capable? You're still lying in a hospital bed. Without you, this rabble is utterly useless.
The climb went more smoothly than expected. They encountered no resistance along the way, not even a lookout.
"Looks like they really did move everyone to the front lines, what a bunch of idiots," a teammate behind Qin Feng muttered.
Qin Feng didn't say anything, but he relaxed his guard.
When they climbed halfway up the cliff, to the steepest and most difficult spot to get a foothold, the accident happened.
"beat!"
A roar came from above the cliff.
Immediately afterwards, countless "hand grenades"—actually water balloons filled with red paint—fell from the sky.
Qin Feng's expression changed drastically, and he roared, "Take cover! Take cover now!"
But it was too late. They were on a steep cliff, with nowhere to hide.
In an instant, the sound of water balloons exploding and the team members' exclamations filled the air. Almost instantly, seven or eight of the ten people Qin Feng brought were stained red with paint, marking their "death."
"withdraw!"
Above the cliff, the Blue Team's ambush squad, having succeeded in their attack, did not linger and immediately retreated to the main position on the high ground, as instructed by Lu Chen.
Qin Feng hung on the cliff face, watching his carefully selected main force almost completely wiped out, and his face turned pale with anger.
He wiped the red paint off his face, looked up, and saw that the ambushers had vanished.
"Damn it!" He slammed his fist into the rock.
We've fallen for their trap!
He hadn't expected the Blue Team to set up an ambush on the cliff. But what puzzled him even more was why, if they were going to ambush them, they didn't just wipe them out, but instead launched a hit and ran?
This is illogical.
Unless... their goal is simply to buy time.
A thought suddenly flashed through Qin Feng's mind, and he realized a possibility.
He immediately contacted his feint attack team via walkie-talkie: "What's the situation on the main road?"
"Report to the captain, the blue team's defensive firepower is very weak, we'll be able to rush up soon!"
Is the firepower weak?
Qin Feng's heart sank.
Something's not right, something's really not right!
If the Blue Team's main force was all on the front lines, their firepower couldn't be this weak. If they split up and ambushed on the cliff, then the number of people on the front lines would be even smaller, and their firepower should be even weaker!
Unless... the Blue Team's main force is neither on the front line nor on the cliff!
Where did they go?
A bold and terrifying idea popped into Qin Feng's mind.
He immediately yelled into the walkie-talkie: "All units, take note! Return to command post immediately! Repeat, return to command post immediately!"
However, his order came too late.
In the primeval forest on the east side of Houshan Mountain, Wang Lei was leading more than a dozen members of the Blue Team, making a difficult trek.
There were no roads at all; everywhere was overgrown with bushes taller than a person and thorny vines. They could only use machetes to slowly carve out a path for themselves.
Everyone had cuts and scratches on their faces and arms, and their training uniforms were soaked with sweat.
"What kind of crazy path is Brother Chen taking..." a new recruit complained in a low voice, "If we keep going like this, the exercise will be over."
"Shut up!" Wang Lei turned around and glared at him. "Just execute Brother Chen's plan, stop with the nonsense!"
Although he said that, Wang Lei was also a little apprehensive.
They've been wandering around this forest for almost an hour, and they're almost completely disoriented, let alone finding a quarry.
Is Lu Chen's plan really reliable?
Just as he began to waver, one of the team members at the front suddenly exclaimed.
"Snake! There's a snake!"
Everyone was startled and quickly stopped in their tracks.
Not far ahead, in the grass, a large, spotted snake as thick as an arm was raising its head high, flicking its tongue, and hissing warningly.
"Don't move! Don't move!" Wang Lei whispered, cold sweat beading on his forehead.
Even though I knew it was a drill, the fear I felt when I encountered something like this was genuine.
The recruit who was closest to the snake was so frightened that his face turned pale, his legs went weak, and he dared not move.
The giant snake seemed to sense the threat and began to arch its body backward, assuming an attack posture.
"Brother Lei, what should we do?" The person next to him asked anxiously, his voice trembling.
Wang Lei stared intently at the snake, his mind completely blank.
At this critical moment, the words Lu Chen had said to him on the hospital bed suddenly flashed through his mind.
"Remember, in the wild, in any emergency, the first priority is to stay calm. Panic will only make you die faster."
Stay calm, stay calm.
Wang Lei forced himself to take a deep breath. He looked around and his gaze fell on the forked branches of a tree next to him.
He quietly gestured to the people around him, signaling them to slowly back away, then tiptoed around to the tree and forcefully broke off the Y-shaped branch.
He gripped the branch and slowly approached the snake.
Everyone held their breath, their hearts pounding in their throats.
Just as the giant snake lunged forward, preparing to attack the terrified recruit, Wang Lei made his move.
He rushed forward and, with all his might, pinned the snake's vital spot with the Y-shaped branch in his hand.
The giant snake was pinned to a vital spot and writhed and rolled wildly on the ground, but it couldn't break free.
Wang Lei pressed down hard on the tree branch, the veins on his arms bulging.
A few seconds later, the snake's struggles gradually weakened, and it eventually went limp.
"Phew..." Wang Lei sat down on the ground with a thud, his whole body soaked in cold sweat.
"Brother Lei is awesome!"
"Brother Lei is so handsome!"
The surrounding teammates erupted in cheers of relief.
The terrified recruit finally came to his senses and ran over to Wang Lei, filled with gratitude and admiration: "Brother Lei, thank you so much, you saved my life!"
Wang Lei waved his hand, panting, and said, "Don't thank me, thank Brother Chen. He taught me all of this."
After this incident, the atmosphere within the team clearly changed. Previous doubts about Lu Chen's plan had now transformed into admiration and trust.
How could a plan by someone who can lie in a hospital bed and teach them how to deal with snakes in the jungle beforehand be unreliable?
"Have you all rested enough? If you have, let's go!" Wang-t-lei jumped up from the ground, full of renewed energy. "Brother Chen is still waiting for our good news!"
"Walk!"
The team set off again, and this time, everyone's steps were more determined.
After walking for about half an hour, the view suddenly opened up before us.
They emerged from the jungle.
Before them lay an abandoned quarry. In the center of the quarry, several military tents were pitched, and a flag representing the Red Team was fluttering in the wind.
"Found it!" Wang Lei was so excited he almost shouted it out.
They quietly lurked in the woods at the edge of the quarry, observing the situation inside.
Only three or four Red Team members were on guard around the tent; the others seemed to have not yet withdrawn from the front line.
Chance!
Wang Lei gestured to his team members behind him, and everyone immediately raised their guns and aimed at the tent.
"Brother Chen said, 'To catch the thief, catch the king first!'" Wang Lei lowered his voice. "Our goal isn't to eliminate these sentries, but to pull down their flag! On my command, prepare..."
He took a deep breath, a resolute glint in his eyes.
"assault!"
