A heart-wrenching hurricane howled overhead, the enemy's attack was unstoppable, everything in nature was shimmering and trembling, making it impossible to tell what was going into space, or whether Death itself was holding up both ends of the earth and lifting the entire icy world up.
Mien and Tobas both thought that someone with such power to summon wind and rain could do whatever they wanted on the ice plains, and even the Northern King probably couldn't defeat them.
They watched helplessly as the ice above them collapsed, crashing onto the lake's surface and slowly sinking, forcing them to the bottom.
Fortunately, both Mien and Tobas are good at diving.
Tobas swam deeper and deeper into the lake, convinced that his intuition had been right: there was a breathable cave at the bottom of the lake.
After diving to a depth of about thirty meters, the water pressure noticeably decreased, and a freely rotating sound told them that the cave was somewhere nearby.
Tobas was an amazing diver with incredible speed, endurance, and stamina. He swam ahead, found a somewhat interesting cave, and quickly swam back from it.
Since he couldn't speak in the water, he used the strength of his arms to signal to Mien that he could follow him without worry.
The water flowed faster and faster, clearly trying to rush through some naturally formed tunnel.
The sturdy Tobas used his body to block the resistance and force of the water flow, because he knew that this ancient cave would suck in whatever was at the bottom of the lake along with the water.
Fortunately, the tunnel at the bottom of the lake was not very long, and two wet heads soon appeared in the cave at the other end of the tunnel.
Mien admired Tobas's abilities even more and even apologized for not trusting him before.
Mien's slightest encouragement greatly motivated the innocent servant, who, as usual, was the first to reach the shore and further explored the cave within a certain distance.
"If we keep going forward, we will find the village of the Ice Wolf Tribe."
"The Ice Wolf Tribe? That sounds terrifying."
"We'll have to make contact sooner or later, otherwise we won't be able to get back to the surface. Ice wolves have poor eyesight, but their sense of smell is amazing. Even if they're moving around more than 300 meters underground, they can't escape our ears. Besides, we'll need to go to their village to find some food."
"Tobas? Why do you always know so much?"
"Because I was born in the North!"
"But I've also heard people say that Xiong Ling is very unfriendly to outsiders."
"Cheer up! You are the future King of Podrolott! Never give up hope!"
"kindness!"
For a time, Tobas was still thinking about how to escape from the demon army.
Now he thinks it's not worth the effort to run away. When one person is in the open and the other is in the shadows, the one in the open is often the most dangerous.
The enemy on the ground has revealed their position and their approximate number.
There were only a handful of people. If they weren't from the demon legion, then who could they be?
Tobas further explained his understanding of the ice field landscape, and his cheerful laughter made Mien feel like he was with family.
Mien also began to try to express her thoughts in a bolder way.
"Tobas, if, if I really become king, will you still follow me as you do now?"
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
Mien's face flushed red, and she stammered, "Because... there's my brother... he's the heir... I'm not... I'm nothing..."
"Your brother? Yes, but he has already sided with the demon legion. You are now the sole heir."
Why...why did he defect to the enemy?
"I think it's because of fear."
The way Mien walked with his head down was like watching a firework streak across the quiet night sky, leaving a soft and profound trail of starlight. He needed an opportunity to prove that he could become king.
The cold mist swirled slowly in the air, like turbid waves, one after another, clearly visible, seeping into each other, spreading out, wandering lonely and desolately toward Laoyin Mountain.
A helpless ice wolf drooped its head and shook its tail, struggling every now and then on the cracked road, like an extremely stubborn horse, violently shaking off the things hanging on its body, its huge joints looking as if they were about to shatter.
It was searching for something, or rather, waiting for someone, in the rolling ice fog, but after waiting for a long time, it finally returned to its owner.
Lying in the deep pit was a bear spirit, along with some scattered objects; this was the wolf's owner.
It looks like he fell from a great height and broke his leg.
The bear spirit had its ears wrapped in a headscarf that extended all the way to its cheekbones, and its feet were tied with wood, presumably from being entangled in debris when it fell. The rest of its body was covered with a thin cloth, and its eyes were fixed on its ice wolf friend. Its back was resting on a raised box.
The box was broken, and a snow mountain scimitar was pressed under it. He really wanted to pull the scimitar out from under it, but as soon as he moved his body, his legs hurt terribly. He was obviously not as strong as the other bear spirits, so he could only grit his teeth and endure the pain.
The ice wolf standing on it remained motionless until its owner temporarily lost consciousness.
It suddenly stared wide-eyed into the distance, its expression as if carved or branded on its forehead. It heard several footsteps coming from several miles away.
The ice wolf wagged its tail, awaiting its master's command.
Xiong Ling has completely lost the ability to move. Even if he can climb out of the pit by his own strength, his ears cannot hear as far as a wolf's.
He fell asleep in the pit, and when he woke up, he sighed and groaned. When he finally noticed that Ice Wolf seemed to have heard something, he coughed violently and called out Ice Wolf's name.
"Chongni, how's it outside?"
The ice wolf didn't speak, but it understood its master's meaning, so it roared twice into the air.
The master immediately understood and asked, "Are they very close?"
The ice wolf has a thick, long neck, and because of the unusually cold weather, all its fur has turned white, leaving only its brown claws and fangs exposed.
Overall, this wolf is very old, just like its owner. It has a generally good temper, but it seems a bit impatient.
It pretended not to hear anyone coming, slowly held its breath, and left its owner.
The air was completely still. Guided by the dim light, the ice wolves arrived at the top of the ice ridge. This place used to be used by the ice wolf tribe for sentry duty long ago, but it is no longer used. There are only a few ice caves that don't look like houses.
Ice Wolf heard rapid breathing coming from ahead again.
It was panting heavily, its body trembling slightly, as if it felt uneasy and its heart was beating faster in anticipation of something.
With the sound of snowballs splashing, a boy's voice came from the white mist.
“I swear I was right here! A wolf, and we’re very close to their tribe.”
Another boy emerged from the white mist.
"Tobas, slow down, I'm exhausted."
Two human figures emerged one after the other from the vortex of mist, and a momentary ray of light shone into the eternal frost and snow.
The boy who had spoken earlier caught a glimpse of the eyes hidden beneath the snow. He stood there blankly, pondered for a moment, and then went over and dug the creature out of the snowdrift.
"A direwolf! Stay away from it!"
"It's still alive!"
"Then you should stay even further away from it!"
"But it seems like it was waiting for us."
The ice wolf shook off the snow, abandoning its wolfish dignity, and stuck out its tongue to lick the human's shoes. Its eyes were neither beautiful in color nor shape, and even revealed a deadly threat.
"Tobas, I think you're getting too close. There might be some of its companions around here."
Tobas crouched down, cradling the ice wolf's paws in his hands, and remained silent for a moment with a hint of sympathy and humility.
"The ice wolf's favorite thing to do is to cause destruction, and this one is no exception. It once arrogantly attacked the village and roared at its enemies while standing on the iceberg. But now, it can only walk like a sick person because it is old and its claws are dull. It has been waiting for us here for a long time and it definitely needs special help."
"Are you telling the truth? Or were you lost or abandoned?"
“No!” Tobas said with absolute certainty, “Ice wolves will seek their own death once they are abandoned by their owners.”
