Chapter 104 Rest and Recuperation
Reading Settings
Having lost their trail, the four agents had no choice but to return to Hobrick.
The central region is sunny and warm, and the moldy Beris, blown by the cold wind, lies dozing in the sun.
The sky is clear and the air is fresh. Birds sing love songs in the sunlight to the tender green season. It feels so good to return to the castle from the sharp edge of the cold!
"Sir, your package has arrived!"
A package with a gold sealing wax stamp was thrown through the castle gate. Billis glanced at it and tossed it aside.
My wife must have bought something recklessly again!
He continued to lie in his comfortable rocking chair, imagining swans and young herons.
"Sir, I forgot there's a package here!"
"Oh! A woman who loves to spend money!"
Billy took the package, but when he saw that it was signed by himself, a rare look of confusion immediately appeared on his face.
When did I buy anything?
The package felt heavy in my hands. I tore it open and poured out several books: "The Style of Love and Emotional Intelligence," "Marriage at Thirty," "My Lover," and "Eros."
Billis was quite certain that his wife had bought it for him.
He had absolutely no interest in these things, yet it was these books that reminded him of the scholar Tom.
Should I pay him a visit? I still have so many questions to ask him.
So, with these questions in mind, I boarded the train and headed to the library.
It happened to be a public holiday for the library, so only a side door was open. The library was empty, and many books were missing from the shelves. The hall where the Tom scholars often stayed had been emptied.
However, the scholars' voices could still be heard from a distance, seemingly coming from the warehouse on the left.
"Leave 'The Earl of Cedar' and 'The Noble City of Wol' for now, but bring the complete set of 'The Old Man of the Forest,' and don't forget 'The Devout Priest.'"
Tom Scholar was cleaning the warehouse with a cheap shelving assistant. The tables and couches were covered with huge books, leaving no room to even step.
Billy grabbed a book at random, flipped through a few pages, and saw illustrations of people dressed in tattered clothes.
"Great! I've finally found 'The Glamorous Bride,' and everyone says it's even better than 'The Style of Love and Emotional Intelligence.'"
"This is a pulp novel; I recommend you read another one."
Hi, it's me.
"Oh, oh, it's Agent!"
Tom slowly descended the safety ladder. There were no stools in the storeroom, so he had to limp and sit on the tatami mat. But the tatami mat was piled high with books, and he couldn't bear to sit on them, so he asked the shelving assistant to move them away first.
"Is the library going to close?" Billis asked.
"It's a relocation. The new library in the southern Misa region will open next month."
"It's not very convenient to come to you there."
"I don't want to either, but several large cities are going to be built in the south, supposedly in preparation for future urban planning. The vast plains are always the most suitable places to live."
"Speaking of which, I just came back from Moriel."
Upon hearing the name Moriel, the scholar Tom immediately perked up.
Billis told the scholar all the stories of the followers he met on the ice plains, including the satellite launch, the tracking of Mora, the wizard transformation, and the Hyperion.
The scholar listened with great interest and forgot to charge the shelf assistant, resulting in the machine lying there unable to get up.
He also maintains the tradition of taking careful notes on topics that interest him. In particular, when the ancient city of Hyperion was mentioned, the scholar thought of charging the shelf assistant because it carried a book of ancient city documents.
The book mentions that there is an ancient city in each of the five regions of the central continent. These five cities represent five periods of civilization in the other world, with Hyperion being the earliest civilization.
This civilization can be traced back to ancient times. Before human and elven civilizations truly dominated, there was a brief period of giant civilization.
The Giant Civilization is the second civilization in this other world, and the first to have cities.
The reason why the ruins of Hyperion are so large is indeed related to giants. It was not until the giants disappeared and the ancient city, which had been buried by blizzards, was discovered by barbarians that it was able to see the light of day again.
Furthermore, the documents do not provide answers regarding the five obelisks and the wizard.
However, the lack of answers in the literature does not mean that scholars have no conclusions.
Tom was a scholar who excelled at studying history. His notebooks were piled up higher than an average person's clothes rack, and his knowledge was deeper than the ocean.
Billis knew he had found the right person.
The scholar immediately resorted to his straightforward approach.
Before discussing the relationship between the five obelisks and wizards, we must first talk about the wizarding community.
Wizards exist as a servant race, and from the very beginning they have always played the villains; however, they can only serve as the villains' servants.
Wizards are a group that enters a period of dormancy when there is no leader. They must find a powerful villain and serve him. If the leader is killed, the wizards will enter a period of dormancy and wait for the next leader.
In ancient times, wizards once served dragons. After the dragons were slain, the wizards faded from the ancient stage.
During the period of divine intervention, the wizards found powerful demons to back them up, but the war against the gods ended in the demons' defeat, and the wizards also entered a period of hibernation.
The wizards' reappearance during the Great Reboot must be related to the new leader.
Beris's first thought was that, following Leviathan, another demonic pillar had been resurrected.
“This is very likely,” Tom said. “During the time of the divine descent, the wizards were among those who served the magic pillars. When the magic pillars were sealed, the wizards acted less and less, eventually going into hibernation until the Great Reboot occurred. The power of the sacrifice caused the magic pillars to revive, and the wizards began to stir.”
Who could it be?
"The wizards have the power to make cities disappear; their leader must also possess equal power."
"So, have you heard of Mora?"
"No trace of Mora has been found in any of the follower's documents; the name has never existed since ancient times."
"Strange, could this simply be a code name for heretics?"
"My wisdom does not lie; at least there are no relevant records before the Great Reboot."
Billis believed that the scholars were right.
After that, they talked a lot about the living customs and traditions of the bear spirits and dwarves.
Most of the dwarves have lost their craftsmanship and have gradually integrated into the fields of technology and commerce.
Xiong Ling is unwilling or unable to leave Molière, so he can only maintain the status quo.
These two groups have vast social circles and narrow territories.
As a synonym for icy and snowy landscapes, Molière is not suitable for other species to live in, especially in snowy mountainous areas. It is no surprise that the low urban coverage and sparse population of Molière are unsurprising.
This is precisely why pagan activities appear so rampant.
Billis, having gained a great deal, bid farewell to the scholars and returned to his castle.
As soon as he entered the door, he saw his wife greeting a guest in the outer hall. His first thought was Mr. Richie from the intelligence team. However, it was impossible for Mr. Richie to go out without using his Elemental Stand.
The visitor had only been there a short time when he saw the castle owner return. He immediately stood up, smiled, took out an invitation with a feather tucked into it from his woolen bag, and presented it with both hands.
"I am White from the Alliance Intelligence Department. This is an invitation for you."
"For us?" Billis opened the invitation, poured out four cards, and handed them back to White without even looking at them. "Sorry, I don't collect."
White drew two cards; the first one had Billy's name on the back, and the second one had Lisa's name on the back.
"Several of you have been fortunate enough to be invited by high-ranking officials to travel to the Alliance headquarters to investigate Irenshere."
"That very remarkable Irenshere? Who did he offend?"
"As a former friend, I couldn't have foreseen that he would side with the devil."
"Explain in more detail."
"There is a mole in the alliance. An agent has been murdered. Many people saw his shadow on the day of the incident."
"Why do you need us? Why don't you investigate it yourselves?"
"Based on the performance of each agent, the senior members have ultimately selected the four of you."
"Oh! Because of your excellent grades!"
"In fact, there is another reason: the victims had close relationships with you."
Who are the victims?
"The last time you saw the intelligence team's informant, Agent Richie, who was in charge of assigning the mission, you should still be in the snowy mountains."
