The Leberio Obelisk, the highest council of the Heroes' Alliance.

The five regional liaisons from the other world sat on the left side of the high hall, while the five leaders sat on the right.

There are two empty seats.

One of the handsome young men earnestly said, "Can the meeting begin? I need to hurry to attend the hatching ceremony in Naian Forest."

"Let's wait a little longer, the boss hasn't arrived yet." Another person who looked like a monk spoke.

At the very back of the twelve high seats is a throne overlooking the entire panorama. It is located right in the center of the high seats and, judging from its size and shape, seems to be reserved for giants.

The throne is often empty, and even members of the twelve high-ranking seats rarely see this person.

And this person is the founder of the Hero Alliance.

"Let's begin the meeting; he won't be coming today either."

The ten high-ranking members looked at each other and agreed.

Eight men and two women immediately started arguing over a trivial matter.

The meeting proceeded quickly, and as they discussed promotions, a human wearing a snuff-colored coat and a scarf around his neck noticed someone entering the obelisk.

"I don't want to be overheard. What's with this guy who barged in?"

The man sitting next to him ran two dirty fingers through his sideburns and replied, "Weren't we already discussing the promotion? I'm the one who called him here."

"Don't forget that you are a high-ranking member. If something goes wrong, you will be responsible for the entire league."

“Irenshere, the Thousand-Faced Agent, is the person I want to introduce to you today. I believe you are all aware of his contributions.”

"Understanding is one thing, but being promoted to a high position is another. Judging from his performance over the past year, has it declined compared to previous years?"

"He just recovered the stolen documents a few days ago. The investigation team had been searching for that case for several days without finding anything, but he caught the spy in one night. Isn't that enough to qualify him for a higher position?"

"I'm afraid not, sir. The spy he captured is dead, and we can't ascertain the enemy's identity. This would be a dereliction of duty for an agent."

The chubby man sitting on their far right had clearly been silent for too long. This guy was wearing a gray cloak and his appearance was really not flattering. His upturned nose looked quite sinister, but his words were somewhat conservative.

"I think we should give him a chance to meet with someone in a high position."

Only three members objected; the rest expressed their approval.

At this point in the meeting, Irenschel had arrived at the middle level of the obelisk and was then led by guards into the waiting room, where he waited for a full quarter of an hour.

During this time, he heard several heated arguments and several outbursts of anger, but he did not applaud.

The guards led Irencel into the high hall.

All ten high-ranking members watched the agent in the same silent manner. On the surface, only a minority of them frowned and disagreed with the promotion.

"Let's not waste any more time," said an old man who looked like a knight. "Hurry up, you only have one chance to choose. Let me put it this way, Mr. Irenshere, there are two vacancies in the high seats, and our Hero Alliance has certainly made a difference in your contributions. Once you become a member of the high seats, you will be removed from your agent position and become part of the Alliance Council. Do you have anything to add to this?"

Irenshere did not answer directly, but kept staring at the throne behind him.

That throne is in the darkest part of the obelisk. Who would like to sit in a place where there is no sunlight and no one can see their face?

No one has ever seen the face of the alliance's founder; only high-ranking members have the opportunity to meet him.

Irenshere really wanted to meet this person, but before that, there were many things that could only be accessed through missions. Once he became a high-ranking member, he would lose his access to information.

"You brought me here today so I could fill in? I thank you, but I don't want to sit there yet. It would be better to leave those two seats for someone who needs them more."

"Nothing else to add?"

"No."

“He wasted so much time! We shouldn’t have considered him!” a woman interrupted unexpectedly. “He looks only thirty. It’s not that young people aren’t suited for high positions—I’d offend you all if I said that—but look at his expression! It’s definitely not the look of someone willingly making a sacrifice! Irenshere, I was initially very much in agreement, but after hearing your addition, I’m starting to object. What do you take our trust in you for?”

Logically, the other members in higher positions should have stopped the woman's unfounded accusations, but the other nine seemed to have swallowed something that upset their stomachs.

Especially the one with long sideburns, who was the one who initially recommended Irencel, and now he actually regrets it.

It seems that Irenshere no longer needs to speak in front of a high seat; many things that were discussed in private have been anticipated all at once.

An inexplicable, unsettling shadow swept across the face of one of the high-ranking members.

These shadows constantly invaded his mind, tormented his spirit, and gave him an unspeakable bitterness.

Finally, the member who hadn't spoken a word the whole time started to speak.

"I didn't expect you to take advantage of everyone's trust in you, Agent Ellen Sher. If you don't like this position, why did you want to come here?"

By observing the expressions of the other members, Irenshere understood that the other person's words carried significant weight, containing both blame and a reasonable explanation for his own lies.

So he chose to remain silent.

On the other hand, he also saw the expected answer.

The so-called high-ranking members are nothing more than twelve clowns gathered together to put on a show. These guys think it's safe to live in the Fortress, and they're all people who will back down at the slightest trouble.

At the end of the meeting, all ten senior members felt that they had covered all the topics, that their intentions were very clear, and that their opinions were very unified.

Who will be given those two empty seats will be discussed separately.

If Irenshere hadn't abstained from voting, we probably wouldn't have seen this kind of face.

Thinking of this, he not only had no regrets, but even leisurely left the obelisk.

After Irenshere left, the ten high-ranking members also dispersed.

The man who spoke with such authority tapped his mouth with his finger as if in self-punishment, as if those last words shouldn't have been his.

Only after most of the high-ranking members had left did he move his unique body and emerge from the shadows.

Raine is a rare crocodile-man who possesses fish scales, a crocodile head, and long teeth.

He smiled slightly at the last two members who left and asked, "Did I go a little too far just now?"

“If you don’t say it, we will say it for you.”

That's good.

Ryan, a thoughtful and contemplative man, sat down again.

He rarely interacts with people outside of high positions, whether they are agents or intelligence personnel; he doesn't like to get involved. There's a reason he's become like this.

Not long ago, Ryan fell seriously ill, and after recovering, he suddenly became a different person.

He ignores and doesn't concern himself with anything.

There is a star on the high hall door. When someone approaches, the star will light up without the need for the guards to report.

After the nine high-ranking members left, the stars lit up and an agent entered.

To see who was coming in, Ryan had to force himself to lift his aged neck. The excess scales on his face made it difficult for him to open his eyes, his belly was swollen like a sail, and his head was dizzy.

"Lord Renn, someone has stolen and switched the intelligence team's data."

"Was it Irencel who did it?"

"You knew it was him?"

“He was just here a moment ago; he’s very good at hiding.”

"If it weren't for him, we would have already obtained the information."

"But this is good, no one should suspect us."

"Lord Renn, what should we do next?"

"Follow Irencel and await the wizard's orders."
