Chapter 76 The Battle of Summer Insect Town
Reading Settings
The ravaged town, almost every part of it has been damaged.
Something was wriggling behind the dilapidated house. A huge, non-human-shaped creature emerged from the shadows. Its scaly claws were as long as a human arm, its eyes glowed red, and its sharp nose and ears looked like knives about to be thrown. Its breath condensed into white mist.
The group of amphibians patrolled slowly, the two leading patrolmen sniffing each other's cheeks and communicating in a simple yet melodious low voice—not all large animals can produce a loud sound.
They sensed the intruders entering the town and made this sound through their cheeks.
"Hiss, intruder, hiss."
The intruders moved so fast that the Naga couldn't keep up and had to turn back to report to the Queen.
At the westernmost part of Summer Insect Town, there is the best-preserved house. Its upper floor has been transformed into an outward-protruding watchtower. On the watchtower sits a seaweed chair, upon which sits a Naga Queen with well-developed side fins and red fish scales.
Before the Queen, a trident was stuck high upside down, symbolizing her royal power and dominance.
Her slightly closed, crimson eyes revealed a hint of vigilance and determination, while her long, scaly tail writhed on the ground, emanating a chilling aura.
Upon seeing the patrolling soldiers, the Queen immediately gripped her trident tightly with both hands, the light reflecting off its scales so strange and dazzling.
The first Naga patrolman stepped forward to report: "Hiss, Queen, there are intruders, hiss."
The second one slowly flicked its red tongue: "Coming from the south, hiss, there are three."
As if issuing a command to her retinue, the Queen's voice was deep and authoritative: "Immediately proceed to all parts of the town and destroy all enemies that stand in our way as quickly as possible, leaving no survivors!"
The patrolmen responded readily, their massive bodies writhing like pythons as they coiled around the watchtower pillars and moved among the ruined buildings.
A cunning glint flashed in the Queen's eyes, and her side fins and scales seemed to receive signals from other Naga. Her hand, gripping the trident, trembled involuntarily.
A male Naga, probably the largest in size, trotted up to the Queen, his voice filled with tension and a sense of oppression.
"Queen, hiss, could it be, hiss, her companion?"
The Naga Queen watched the town like a beast, and tension hung in the air in every corner.
"You mean she called her companions too?"
"Hiss, I'm just, hiss, guessing."
"After she left, she left behind a scarred town, using magic to lure us here and make the reincarnated people mistakenly believe that we did it. What is her purpose in doing this?"
“Hiss, I’m afraid, hiss, she and Leviathan, hiss, some kind of connection.”
"How dare you! Leviathan is the true king, the lord of the sea! No one can see it alive, including us!"
"Hiss! I was wrong! Hiss!"
The Naga Queen turned around and gazed at the sea. She knew that the reincarnated ones would come looking for her sooner or later.
In order to welcome the Lord of the Ocean, the Naga race must gain more land and prosperity under the Queen's rule.
If a potential threat emerges, it must be eliminated immediately.
The Naga Queen drew her trident and chanted a spell. Dark clouds surged in the sky, and waves of water, whipped up by strong winds, rose one after another, as if to swallow the invaders whole.
Just then, thunder roared in the sky, accompanied by lightning. Some seabirds were unable to dodge and became victims of the lightning strike.
A storm is coming, and the earth is trembling.
But when the incantation was halfway through, the environment started to feel a little strange.
The brazier continued to crackle and pop, and torches stuck in the rock wall remained lit by the wind.
The movement of tides is very irregular; just a moment ago it was rising tide, and now it has become receding tide.
The dark clouds dispersed, and the sun appeared.
The spell didn't work; the Storm Summoning failed!
What happened?
As the Naga Queen raised her trident for the second time, a crisp gunshot rang out in the distance.
Then a beam of light arrived, and like fireworks, ten arrows spread out in mid-air.
Immediately afterwards, in the southeast direction, shocking white ice fissures appeared, and almost every street was freezing, thawing, and refreezing.
Even the Naga patrolmen who live on the seabed can be swept under the thickest ice layer due to carelessness.
It appears they are acting separately; the Naga Queen has once again dispatched approximately seventy soldiers, all of whom are highly trained.
The species that live in the sea are distinctly different from those that live on land. Not only are they strong, but they are also tall and robust. It seems that every male Naga has to swallow a wild beast every day to maintain their weight. They are known as the savages of the sea.
The soldiers were equipped with uniform tridents and had no armor from head to toe, because sea creatures did not need armor and could overwhelm their opponents with their size alone.
In the next ten minutes, the Naga Queen heard at least three explosions, each louder than the last.
The frequency of using light arrows is becoming increasingly outrageous, and the extent of their spread is almost doubling.
Many houses were frozen solid by magic, and you could even feel something cold blowing on your face. The southeast corner of Summer Insect Town had long since become a snow-covered ice world.
None of the seventy soldiers sent out returned.
The enraged Naga Queen cried out, "Protect me! I need five minutes of meditation!"
The so-called meditation refers to concentrating all magical power on the trident and adjusting its destructive power to the maximum.
The remaining twenty guards in the camp formed a solid human wall in a square formation.
A steel spear pierced the outpost, a second steel spear was launched to a greater distance, and then a third, a fourth, all aimed at the slender main beam.
These four steel spears firmly secured the lookout post; with a strong pull, the four outposts would collapse and crash down on the Queen.
A golem descended from the sky, passed through the formation of guards, and landed in front of the queen.
The Queen's eyes were in meditation, having become one with the trident, so she could not see anything. Interrupting the spell would be tantamount to taking her life.
Failed to protect the Queen, the guards quickly climbed the 20-meter-high watchtower, ready to fight the invaders to the death.
Unexpectedly, a smooth ice wall suddenly appeared before us, like a shimmering city wall laid out on the lookout tower.
The ice wall's surface was exceptionally smooth, and the Naga's supple bodies were naturally suited for climbing rough objects; they were helpless against the ice wall.
The guards were blocked outside by the snow wall, and a second intruder appeared inside, making it impossible to tell whether it was wings or crests that were moving.
The third intruder was already waiting at the top of the watchtower, like a sniper aiming at the first one to step forward.
The Naga Queen seemed to be able to hear again, but she couldn't break free from the trident's bindings. It took her a great deal of effort to open her eyes and see the double-barreled shotgun used for hunting wild beasts.
This shotgun is a variant of the Mark, and is actually only used to scare the enemy.
Biris naturally hoped to resolve the issue peacefully with the Naga.
The Naga Queen rolled her eyes halfway through her incantation. She hadn't communicated with the reincarnated beings for a long time. The last time she had interacted with them was eight years ago, in the very first year of the Great Reboot, when many workers were building exploration platforms on their territories.
Just like the ancient Podrote people hundreds of years ago, the reincarnated ones unkindly drove the Naga out of their homeland.
Despite the hatred that filled her people's memories, the Naga still decided to unleash a storm and perish together with their enemies.
A wave arches up on the sea level, as if it could sweep the stars in the sky into the seabed.
It was probably the highest wave Billis had ever seen. If it were to reach land, not only would the small town of Summer Insects be destroyed, but cities within a radius of a hundred miles would be wiped out.
"Mia! Think of something quick!" Billis shouted.
Mia put down the Bow of Light and silently chanted a spell, but the Silence spell could only be used once a day.
Billy tried every means to take the trident away, but it remained unmoved, like a divine weapon that only obeyed its chosen master.
Elsa unleashed all her magic, freezing the narrow seabed, but this only slowed the waves from reaching the land.
Just when it seemed like they were about to be wiped out, the air suddenly became strange and thin, and even the Naga Queen felt a real threat.
That thing cannot be seen with the naked eye; it is faster and wider than ocean waves.
The sudden sound waves shattered the stars, rearranged the nebulae in space, and caused the turbulent sea to sink instantly, creating a channel that led to the slowly descending star.
The waves were shattered by the roar, and the trident, unable to withstand the power of the sound, fell down along with the Naga Queen.
"The Lord of the Ocean is angry! You're finished!"
There was no dust in the sky.
That was the voice of Leviathan.
