The closer they got to the Leviathan coast, the worse the weather became; wind and rain were common occurrences, especially since Billis and Aisha had already arrived at Torchtown, the westernmost town in the Hobrick region.
Torchtown is located right next to the Leviathan Coast and is said to have been built by the first reincarnated beings.
Generally speaking, people passing through the town would bring back some local specialties, and the flat machete sword is one of the local specialties. It's not that it's actually a machete, but it looks too much like one. Although the hilt is incomplete and the blade and tip are not sharp at all, the sword is like a rectangular piece of metal, but this does not affect the effectiveness of wielding the sword.
Because the materials used to make the swords come from volcanic rocks further north, the heavy weapons are perhaps not suitable for fighting small creatures; they are only suitable for slashing large creatures, such as ferocious sea monsters.
Why not use guns to fight sea monsters? That's because guns lose their power underwater, while the magic of the machete and sword is that even underwater, they can still slash at monsters with the current.
Some traders were willing to waste a whole thousand gold coins on travel expenses and even lose five old horses, all to sell these weapons to the Southern Continent.
The townspeople of Torchtown welcome merchants at any time. The mayor is a kind old dwarf from the far north. Although he is old, he is just as capable as a young man when it comes to physical labor.
His anvil was twice the size of the most famous torch anvil in town, and when he worked on it, it could scare children from ten miles away.
The mayor treats his body like a machine; if one day the anvil in his house stops making a hammering sound, Torch Town will surely be in deep trouble.
This old town mayor, however, enjoys hanging out with young people several times his age.
The main purpose of their meeting was to discuss alternative raw materials to replace volcanic rock and to gather intelligence.
That's right, nobody knew that the old mayor had another cover identity: an intelligence agent.
On the day Billy arrived in town, he met the mayor.
When the mayor heard that they were going on a trip to the West, he couldn't help but admire them and insisted on inviting the two travelers to his home.
The mayor's house is located in the northwest corner of Torch Town. His house looks like a large barn, with cold ironware and the scorching heat required for blacksmithing filling the interior of the 'barn'.
Through a gentle interior corridor, you can see the clouds over the sea. Those strange clouds are so low that you can walk on them. Light suddenly shines down from somewhere on the clouds, and even at night, you can see the effect of the overlapping clouds.
When the conversation turned to Leviathan, the old mayor realized that an ordinary traveler couldn't possibly know so much, especially about the ancient history of the feud between the Podrotes and the Naga.
So the old mayor also made his stance clear, asking, "You haven't been to the Leviathan Ocean yet, have you?"
Billis shook his head.
The mayor then asked, "And what about Summer Insect Town?"
"We're just about to go."
"It's best not to go!"
"Why?"
"That place has already been occupied by the Naga."
Billy looked out the window and saw amazing cumulonimbus clouds clearly visible in the low sky.
It's going to rain again.
Whenever it's about to rain, Elsa's wings become heavy and wet.
A large brazier rests on a stand, its flames bringing warmth to the house and casting a radiant glow on the unfinished iron and silver artifacts.
Elsa quickly ran over, and the flames brought warmth to the child.
The sunlight seemed to tiptoe in front of the thunderclouds, but Billis chuckled: "Old mayor, I think you're a blacksmith. How could a blacksmith who never leaves his house know so much?"
The old mayor got excited too, making gestures to scare the child as he said, "How do you know all this, talking about the future from ancient human history?"
The mayor's language sounded like it came from several different regional dialects, suggesting that he had likely traveled to many countries around the world and interacted with people from all walks of life.
Billy pondered quietly, his mind racing, and it took him a long time to finally utter a single sentence.
"Where did you learn that strange language?"
The mayor stroked his long beard and said, "As for me, you can tell at a glance that I'm from the north. The dwarves there all speak with the same accent."
"No, what I'm asking is, what do you do on Earth?"
Billis deliberately started beating around the bush, trying to confuse the old man.
“You said you wanted to go to Leviathan Ocean one minute, and then you said you wanted to go to Summer Insect Town the next minute. Now you’re asking me where I’m from. I haven’t even answered the question I just asked you yet.”
"What did you ask me?"
"Sir, don't think I'm senile, my mind is still very sharp..."
“You’re very clear-headed, aren’t you? Don’t be angry. I have my own identity, and you don’t need to hide it from me. The Leviathan Ocean does indeed take this route, but I never said I was going there. Besides, the news never mentioned the Naga taking over Summer Insect Town; it only said that there was a refugee crisis there. Finally, even though I’ve never been to the North, I know that the blacksmith will never leave the Snow Mountain.”
"Good grief, are you testing me?"
"Didn't you also test me using various dialects?"
"You understood everything! It's really giving me a headache!"
"So, who are you? And why are you guarding this dilapidated house?"
The mayor was indeed in a dilemma, partly because of the rain, and partly because he wasn't prepared to entertain the guests.
One after another, snow-white ball-shaped lightning bolts appeared in the sky, their brilliant rays sweeping across. A powerful eagle circled in the sky, both seeking shelter from the rain and becoming a black dot, sometimes obscuring the halo of light under the pure white dome.
A magnificent horn sounded from the coast, piercing the tranquility like a golden blade, its notes rising and falling, echoing in the vast space.
The mayor asked Billis, "Do you know what you were just playing?"
Billis shook his head sincerely.
"Those Naga, in order to occupy more territory, they are used to using horns to contact warriors of other races. When I first heard that sound, I thought it was a coronation ceremony, but later I learned that it was a battle horn."
How many of them are there?
"There are about five hundred people, four hundred male Naga and less than one hundred females."
"Why don't our people drive them back?"
"Why fight back? Even if we win, Summer Insect Town will be submerged by the sea. We might as well give it to them."
“You’re right. I seem to have forgotten that it’s illegal to use force against non-reincarnated individuals.”
"In my opinion, you should be prepared to go to jail."
Are there any places nearby where we can get weapons?
"How about my machete sword? It only costs ten iron coins."
"No, I want a gun."
The mayor took a deep breath and said, "Come with me."
You would never guess that the blacksmith's house was built on top of a cave, and the cave was full of traps inside and out. Whether you went left or right, you would lose your life if you went the wrong way.
Billis followed the mayor to the lowest level, where there was a patch of frozen ground.
The mayor swung his sledgehammer and smashed the clod of earth open with a single blow, revealing a whole crate.
The box contained a neat row of weapons, including special agent-grade leather shoe guns, umbrella guns, lipstick guns, and a miniature silenced gun fed by a 36-round double-stack magazine.
Billies chose the most unique cigar gun.
The mayor laughed and said, "Aren't you afraid your mouth will get smashed?"
Billis countered, "Tell me, which is faster, a bullet or magic?"
"I think lightning is faster."
“You’re right, so I have to wear a bulletproof vest.”
"I don't have any bulletproof vests here."
"I always carry it with me."
Billies whistled, and the Mark II descended from the sky.
The mayor was terrified by the two strange guys. Although weapons were important, it was also important to bring some anti-electric equipment.
As long as the weather is good, we can set off.
Looking at the hole the golem had drilled into the roof, the mayor kindly asked, "You've never been to the Leviathan Coast before, have you? If it's really your first time, I suggest you bring a guide."
"Why?"
"Don't you understand that the coastline is actually quite winding? Choosing a good guide can save you a lot of travel expenses."
Do you know anyone like that?
"On the back side of Torch Town, there's a coffee shop where you can't get coffee, but you'll encounter plenty of skilled fighters."
“But you just said guide.”
"Yes, a guide who can fight, that's how I should put it."
