Chapter 59 My World (Part 10)

Gunshots rang out from the street, followed by another.
The bank's load-bearing wall was blown through, and thugs wearing prosthetic limbs opened their backpacks and poured out the detonators. The remaining thugs threatened the hostages and walked around carrying fusion weapons.
A total of seven thugs appeared, along with five modified hunting dogs.
The bank's electronic screen descended, and several clumsy robotic guards clattered on the stairs. These unintelligent robots had a very low level of awareness, and before they could even understand what was happening, the thugs pulled the triggers, and the robotic guards' heads melted into molten iron.
Several modified hunting dogs ran around the scrap metal. One dog's nose touched the electric ring, and the robot twitched reflexively. The other dogs immediately pounced on it, tearing the motionless thing into pieces.
Just like catching a few hares, they return to their owner, wag their tails, and wait for the next prey.
The women cried, and the men began to seek comfort. Several loud-voiced thugs dragged out a few good-looking men from among the hostages and pointed weapons at their heads.
"Stay in the corner and don't move! Anyone who moves will have their head blown off!"
Just then, a hero wielding two laser battle axes leaped from the dozens of stories high bank building and landed in the midst of the thugs. He was only wearing riding breeches and his upper body was bare.
"Are you a new player who can't afford the outfits?" one of the thugs mocked.
The hounds rushed down the spiral staircase, two running to the left and three to the right, quickly surrounding the hero.
The hero easily dragged the hound down, and when another hound pounced, he grabbed its collar and chopped it hard with his axe.
The startled hounds retreated, and he spurred them on, leaping into their midst and brandishing his axe rapidly in front, behind, to the sides. Responding to the shouts of battle, all the surviving hounds charged forward.
The slaughter was over in no time; the five mutilated hunting dogs lay on the ground, barely alive, bleeding to their last drop.
"Look! It's a berserker!"
It seemed that someone in the crowd recognized him. Of course, it wasn't just the NPCs who recognized him, but also the thug leader, who was another player.
The team leader, who had fake eyes, was not to be outdone. He covered his head with his hands, jumped down from the 15-meter-high spiral staircase on one foot, and smashed the diamond rock to pieces.
In addition to his eyes, he also had a prosthetic leg.
Before the leader of the thugs could even get his footing, the berserker charged at him with two axes.
However, half of the leader's body was fake. The laser axe clearly hit his arm, but it didn't rip the arm off completely; it only cleaved it open.
The Berserker was like the embodiment of a demon, leaping from one side to the other, raining down axes.
The team leader was slashed down several times, each time almost hitting a vital spot. He deliberately cleared a space for the berserker, while he used the terrain to maneuver around the enemy.
Like a pirate captain, the leader extended an iron hook from his prosthetic leg, hooked it onto the berserker's shoulder, and pulled him over hard. He then extended a dagger from his other prosthetic leg and stabbed it into the man's abdomen.
Blood gushed from the berserker's body, but his hands remained firm and strong. He dragged two heavy laser axes and fought with increasing ferocity, just like any other warrior.
The team leader was tall and muscular. He grabbed the madman's loose hair, dragged him down, and inserted a cold iron hook into his neck. What followed was a physical struggle where they pushed and shoved each other.
Berserker felt a throbbing, throbbing pain in his head, as if it were filled with something. He dropped his axe and was on the verge of losing consciousness.
Just then, the team leader was struck in the cheek by a golden light, his teeth shattered like crunchy gingerbread, and he had to let go.
Hi, can I ask for directions?
Upon seeing Billis's appearance, Berserker, as if choked by smoke, asked, "Who are you?"
"It's probably hard to explain. I just happened to be passing by and happened to run into you carrying out justice."
"I mean, didn't you see any other thugs?"
"So what if you see them? They're all just NPCs; only you and the team leader are players."
I thought you were an NPC too!
Billy helped Berserker tie up the leader, and it wasn't until the security team had loaded all the criminals into the police car that Berserker remembered to thank the passerby for his help.
"What did you just say your name was again?"
“Beris”.
"I was referring to the game's name."
Billis felt as if he had been doused with boiling water, unsure of where to begin: "I'm a new player, I just registered today with my friend."
"You registered at a really bad time. Hackers have invaded the network, and the city's crime rate has soared. But there are advantages to this too. I can reach Platinum rank after catching a few more criminals."
"Ah, I don't mean to discourage you, but the hacker you're talking about is probably different from ordinary hackers."
"What's different?"
"He will cause the entire internet to crash."
"Anything else?"
"You will never be able to log in again."
"That's a big problem, but where did you find out about it?"
"I have been looking for him and trying every possible way to get rid of him."
"So you and he have known each other for a long time?"
"Can we sit down and have a proper talk? Just the three of us."
"There's one more?"
"He's asleep now, I can't wake him up, but he'll definitely wake up on his own."
"You helped me, so I owe you a favor. Just tell me if you need any help."
"First, I need to know the rules of this game world."
"Aren't the rules written in the login manual? Okay, okay, I admit most people don't read the manual. This is an open world developed using Ether technology. People can choose the appropriate Ether equipment according to their needs and choose different factions to upgrade. I belong to the side of justice. Many people choose the side of antagonism because that allows them to do many things that they can't or won't do in real life. I don't want to be that kind of person. You understand, our world order has already been disrupted once, so I don't want this virtual world to be disrupted again."
“Your eyes are shining, sir. My second question is, where can I get the ether equipment you mentioned?”
“Every city has a police station. If you choose to be a hero, you should go there. Someone will tell you what to do.”
"There's one last problem: I can't deal with hackers by myself; I need a partner."
"Haven't you gained another companion now?"
"You make a good point. I'm a professional hero now, so take me to the security force."
Berserker summoned a whirlwind car and arrived at the security force's stronghold with great fanfare. At the entrance of the stronghold, there were several NPCs who looked like withered cacti, all dressed in brand-new black uniforms.
A bald man with hair as thick as Saturn's rings opened the door for the heroes, led them into the bubble chamber, and took them to the top floor.
On the top floor, there's a large screen displaying the news, where many newly registered heroes are casually browsing the day's news.
Sophie City Hall was attacked, and a detection aircraft suspected to be from the Aetheric civilization was discovered in Mog's Tailor District. The two cities closest to the Oasis were thrown into chaos due to water shortages, and a large influx of refugees into First Home caused security congestion. The Security Force dispatched professional heroes to the area to uphold justice.
No news story can put your mind at ease.
At this moment, the display screen received a strange signal, and the news image froze on the steel ring, with a huge 3D image appearing at the break point 300 meters high.
This figure has no face and is always smiling. The smile is sometimes clear and sometimes unclear, but the twitching at the corner of the mouth is always very clear.
The image successfully caught the attention of the professional hero, showing that this guy wanted to package himself as a cute and charming villain.
"The audience, actors, and heroes are all here. The protagonist and the villain are all in place. Without a doubt, this is my first time showing my face. I'm excited, proud, and satisfied! I feel fulfilled from the bottom of my heart!"
Someone threw trash onto the screen, causing the image to shake violently.
"Do you know who I am? Me! Oh, you all guessed it? Ha! Yes, I'm the hacker who breaks into networks, and I'm going to be the ultimate villain! I'm going to make a grand entrance!"
Holographic images are like giant babies, laughing one moment and getting angry the next, changing their mood faster than turning the pages of a book.
He gripped something on the table tightly and scratched it a few times, making a grating sound that most people found extremely unpleasant.
"Poor people, unable to be heroes in the real world, so you have to show off in the virtual world? Why not do some fun destruction? Why be bound by the rules of the game? Look above your heads, that steel ring you were once so proud of, who lives inside now? Prisoners! All the prisoners you arrested! Now, look carefully, don't blink, I'm going to release these prisoners whose data has been wiped clean!"
A flash appeared on the steel ring, and an ultra-large cannon was aimed at the prison cell door, instantly vaporizing the sturdy shackles.
Meanwhile, the security forces' warning lights flashed incessantly, and the flames of the Sin City illuminated the night sky.
