Chapter 47 Origin and End
Reading Settings
Compared to when he first met Billis, Tom looked more like a medieval scholar, with a bald head and a black dragon scale extending from the roots of his hair down his back. Today he was wearing an outdated robe, wrinkled and dusty, completely faithful to the ancient style.
He definitely needs an apprentice to manage his daily life.
After making coffee, Billy introduced his wife.
Tom's first impressions of women never extend beyond the title page of a book; he even feels a bit of fear, especially when faced with demons, since demons in books are synonymous with villains.
Tom was somewhat surprised to learn that Mrs. Billis was also a world-saving agent.
"I don't know why, but I feel like my leg problem has gotten worse. Maybe I shouldn't have left the library."
Tom pointed out the shiny, thin leg to Billy, which was covered with thick, hard patches.
"So you want to take on an apprentice?" Billis asked.
“You’re absolutely right, but I seem to be stuck in a cycle of failure. The first apprentice I found was a half-reincarnated person who liked to wear gothic-style clothes. I had him organize the bookshelves, and he ran away in less than a day. The second apprentice was a native human, a non-reincarnated person, but he failed the foster care test. The third one, well, you see, in the book, he’s called a cave rat. He lives with cave dwellers, a very rare species. But a rat is a rat after all. Don’t expect him to learn anything good from books except stealing.”
"If you don't mind the mecha, I think you can solve this problem by spending some money on the market."
Tom's dragon tail seemed to agree with Biris's suggestion, and he slammed it heavily on the ground.
"How come I didn't think of that? Machines are indeed more loyal than living beings."
Next, the agent and the scholar discussed a deeper topic, because Billes inadvertently revealed the mission to the Eva's Abyss, and the term "Demon Path" seemed to be quite appealing to Tom.
If Billies hadn't brought up the Big Bang in history, the conversation could probably have ended in the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee.
Tom had a habit of carrying a notebook in his pocket when he went out, so he could record what he saw and heard.
At that moment, he took out a small notebook and a small quill pen, slowly revealing his scholarly demeanor, wanting to extract knowledge about the origins of the abyss from the agent one piece at a time.
This part of the knowledge was not mentioned in ancient books.
"Are you sure? The Magic Path was created by the Big Bang of Magic?" Tom gripped his pen greedily, ready to write it down from every angle.
"Absolutely certain."
"Could you elaborate? For example, what caused the Big Bang?" Tom was looking at both the agent and the notebook, spending more time on the notebook than on the agent.
"It originated from an epic battle, created by several world-destroying spells. The main forces of the Dark Legion and the Light Legion—I say main forces because I'm not sure if there are any more powerful figures than those few sky mages flying in the air—reacted with the obelisks of these two extreme magics, resulting in mutual destruction. Thus, the Demon Path was born."
"Speak slowly, I need to write this down carefully."
"Also, after the Demon Path was created, I saw a moving mountain, no, two of them. There was one flying in the sky, and the mountain that crawls on the ground can devour the energy of the Demon Path. As for the one flying in the sky, it seems to be a mount of the demon race."
"That's fantastic! You've filled a gap in history! Go on!"
"there is none left."
"there is none left?"
"Hey, I'm not a historian, and my Stand ability has a strict time limit."
"If you're not lying to me..."
"Please remove the 'if.' I would feel uneasy if I were to deceive a true scholar!"
Without a doubt, Tom had already regarded Billis as his apprentice, and to express his gratitude, he was prepared to give him a little surprise.
"Knowledge is priceless, Mr. Agent. I don't want to accept your gift for nothing. Since you have generously told me about the source of the Demon Path, I will tell you about its end."
"Does the Demon Path have an end?"
"You wouldn't believe it, would you? There is some common knowledge about the finish line in books, but I don't think you'll look them up, and I'm not going to give you the books either, so please listen carefully."
"I'm listening."
“You just said that there is a high mountain that is devouring the energy of the Demon Path.”
"Yes, it's a mythical monster. It looks like a whale, with a hard shell all over its body and humps on its back, making it look like a mountain."
"What you see is the finish line."
"I can't see it at all. It's clearly a gluttonous snake, constantly sucking the Demon Path."
"It is the child raised on the Demon Path, Leviathan."
"Leviathan? What does this have to do with the Leviathan Ocean?"
"Of course there is a connection. Leviathan lies dormant in that sea, and the Demon Path of the Eva Abyss also eventually flows into the sea. Your story just now gave me this insight."
"You just came to this conclusion too?"
“I’m not a bookworm. I will combine what the books tell me. There are thousands of magical paths in the other world, and they all eventually converge on the west coast. The west coast has abundant energy reserves, far exceeding the other four regions of the northern continent. Therefore, it can be inferred that they were absorbed by something, just like oil is stored on the seabed.”
Billy jumped to his feet in surprise, but his thoughts were elsewhere.
He connected all the clues: the sacrifice, the demon king, the fourth pillar, slumber, and resurrection.
"Scholar Tom, didn't you tell me last time that the Demon King doesn't exist?"
“I did say that the Demon King refers to five people.”
"It must be those five I saw!"
"Oh! How could I not have thought of that!"
"And Leviathan is one of them!"
Why do you say that?
"The Demonic Path of Eva's Abyss has become unstable, causing hallucinations in its passengers. This has never happened before. The last time it occurred, as far as we know, was last month, the day that real estate developer druid was murdered!"
"I think I saw it in the news."
"This is the first offering, the second is Xiong Ling, the behind-the-scenes boss of the Blood Raven Club, and there will be a third and the last one."
"How do you know so much?"
"Coincidentally, during one of my calls with Richie, I accidentally entered the enemy's channel, which can only mean that I have a special connection with them."
"But you still don't know who the third sacrifice will be."
"We'll have an answer soon."
When saying goodbye, Billis expressed his gratitude to Tom, because if it weren't for Tom, Billis wouldn't have thought of using the golem substitute.
After saying goodbye, it took about ten minutes for Aisha to come out of the testing hall. She had passed the test successfully.
On the way back, the Billies bought some clothes for Elsa, hoping she could grow up healthy like a normal teenager.
Their arrival was just as eye-catching as their arrival.
But Billy was preoccupied with something and seemed like a different person ever since he left the registry office.
As husband and wife, Lisa saw through her husband's little scheme at a glance.
What did you say to that scholar?
"When Leviathan is mentioned, it is very likely that it is the object to be resurrected."
"What does this have to do with the Demon King?"
"The Demon King does not exist, my dear. The so-called Demon King refers to the five rulers of dark forces, whom ancient books call the Five Demon Pillars."
"You believe what that scholar said?"
“When I was on a mission in the Abyss, the Mark II allowed me to see what they looked like: an amphibian sea monster, a dragon, and three demons riding on the dragon’s back. I think they were the five rulers.”
"Does anyone else know about this?"
"Mia went to Valdan and hasn't returned yet. I want to find a chance to meet Richie, but I don't know where he lives. I can only wait for the next mission."
"Couldn't we contact headquarters in advance?"
"We had no idea where the Hero Alliance headquarters was; all the missions were assigned by Richie alone."
"Therefore, we can only rely on ourselves."
"My dear, this is also what I wanted to say to you: please prepare for a great battle."
"There's nothing I can't solve. If there is, then let me bring my sickle."
"Hey, that's not what I meant. I meant, please take good care of Elsa."
"..."
“I can’t always rely on you, darling. I’m a man, and I want to be your protector, not the one being protected. If a wizard appears next time, let me be the enemy, okay?”
"As you command, my beloved."
Lisa leaned against Billis, and in the moonlight, the three shadows grew longer and longer.
