Chapter 192 Zhang Xia Gives Birth to a Daughter
On the way back.
Gu Yihan glanced at the little one sleeping soundly in her arms.
She glanced at Lu Huailin's profile and sighed.
Despite how tough Lu's mother was, storming out of the guesthouse, she thought she wouldn't have to see Lu's mother off.
But they came back not long after.
Pointing her finger at Lu Huailin's nose, she said righteously, "Are you blind? Hurry up and take us to the station."
No one in the car spoke to each other during the journey, until they arrived at the train station.
Before getting out of the car, Lu's mother threatened Lu Huailin, "From now on, I'll pretend I don't have a son like you."
Seeing his wife's hesitant expression, Lu Huailin joked, "Wife, are you mesmerized by your handsome face?"
Gu Yihan glared at him, annoyed.
After a moment's hesitation, he said, "Don't take Mom's words to heart."
Lu Huailin glanced at his wife and couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Wife, your husband isn't that petty."
Seeing that he could still laugh, Gu Yihan knew that he hadn't taken Lu's mother's words to heart.
Changing the subject: "If Hao Hao goes to sleep at this time, he'll definitely be staying up very late tonight."
Lu Huailin smiled and nodded, but did not say anything in agreement, knowing that his wife was showing concern for him in her own way.
He spends many years on missions and has seen countless life-and-death situations. He has a hardened heart and will not be affected by trivial matters.
At the entrance of the courtyard
Grandma Gu and Aunt Chen chatted and joked around.
"My goodness!"
Aunt Chen exclaimed in surprise.
Grandma Gu saw her stand up and face the mother of Deputy Battalion Commander Wang, who was walking angrily over from not far away.
He teased, "Who made you so angry?"
Grandma Gu looked up, puzzled, at Old Mrs. Wang, whose face was ashen.
He was quite surprised: "What happened? Didn't your daughter-in-law go to give birth?"
"It's born!"
When Deputy Battalion Commander Wang heard Grandma Gu's question, she became furious and said fiercely.
Grandma Gu clicked her tongue: "So fast."
Deputy Battalion Commander Wang's mother glanced at Grandma Gu, who was watching the spectacle with amusement.
She was getting increasingly angry because she had been hoping for a grandson for nine whole months, only to give birth to a girl instead.
Seeing her pale face, Aunt Chen asked knowingly, "What did you give birth to?"
"Just a little girl."
Deputy Battalion Commander Wang's mother left a message and went straight home.
She was filled with regret. If she had known it was a girl, she would never have gone to the hospital to give birth and wasted money.
Grandma Gu was stunned, and then Deputy Battalion Commander Wang's mother left.
Looking at Aunt Chen, she began to talk about her family affairs: "This old woman is usually quite good to Zhang Xia, so why is she angry now that she has given birth to her granddaughter?"
Aunt Chen gave Grandma Gu a meaningful look and said softly, "We're good to her because Zhang Xia doesn't manage the household."
Grandma Gu didn't understand what Aunt Chen meant. "Isn't it all the same who manages the household?"
Aunt Chen clicked her tongue and shook her head: "That's different. Deputy Battalion Commander Wang's salary is all in her mother's hands."
Grandma Gu sighed, "I didn't expect this old lady to be so hard-hearted."
Aunt Chen laughed. There are quite a few military wives in the family compound. When they have nothing to do, they never stop talking behind people's backs.
There's nothing she doesn't know about this family compound; that Zhang Xia is quite formidable.
After dinner
Gu Yihan looked at the child while Lu Huailin efficiently cleared the table and cleaned up.
A short while later, the sound of Grandma Gu talking to Deputy Battalion Commander Wang could be heard in the courtyard.
She carried the baby out of the living room, glanced at the brown sugar Grandma Gu was carrying, and said with a smile, "Zhang Xia gave birth?"
Deputy Battalion Commander Wang smiled and said, "If she has a daughter, she'll be very beautiful."
He's not young anymore, but he's happy that Zhang Xia gave birth to a daughter.
Grandma Gu pursed her lips.
You're happy, but your parents aren't.
When Gu Yihan saw Grandma Gu's expression, she was stunned, then smiled and said, "Hello, daughter."
Deputy Battalion Commander Wang glanced at Gu Yihan's baby and his eyes flickered.
He had heard from Zhang Xia that the child did not belong to Commander Lu.
After exchanging pleasantries for a while, Deputy Battalion Commander Wang took his leave.
Early the next morning
Gu Yihan walked into the office and saw Sister Min alone. She greeted Sister Min with a smile as she walked in.
He had just sat down.
Hu Shan and Su Yonghong entered the office one after the other.
"Xiao Han, why did you take the day off yesterday?" Hu Shan asked, puzzled.
Gu Yihan smiled slightly: "Something came up at home yesterday."
"Oh." Seeing that she didn't want to talk about it, Hu Shan didn't press the matter further.
Minjie: "Xiaohan, are you and Sister Su's daughter neighbors?"
Gu Yihan glanced at Su Yonghong, who remained silent, and nodded.
Minjie's eyes lit up: "I heard she gave birth, do you know if it's a boy or a girl?"
Gu Yihan frowned slightly, feeling that Sister Min was being too enthusiastic about the matter of dividing Su Yonghong's assets.
Before Gu Yihan could answer, Su Yonghong glared at Minjie: "It's not your lover's child, why are you in such a hurry to know the sex?"
Gu Yihan: "..."
Hu Shan: "..."
Minjie was so speechless by Su Yonghong's words that her face turned ashen, and she didn't even ask whether Zhang Xia had given birth to a boy or a girl.
The office was unusually quiet all day; no one spoke until the end of the workday.
"Xiao Han, I'll go with you."
Gu Yihan initially thought she had misheard and looked at Hu Shan, who was packing her things, with a puzzled expression.
Hu Shan slung her bag over her shoulder, walked to Gu Yihan's side, and took her arm: "I rode a bicycle today too."
Gu Yihan smiled inexplicably; she thought Hu Shan was going to the family compound!
The two chatted and laughed as they walked toward the bicycle parking area. After finding their bicycles, they walked side by side toward the entrance of the textile factory.
"Do you think Sister Min and Sister Su were the wife and concubine in their past lives?"
Gu Yihan didn't understand: "What do you mean?"
Hu Shan whispered in Gu Yihan's ear, "If they're not rivals, then why do they fight as soon as they meet?"
Gu Yihan couldn't help but laugh out loud when she saw Hu Shan's funny expression.
"Comrade Gu Yihan."
Gu Yihan was startled by the sudden appearance.
"Qin Shou, are you trying to die?!" Hu Shan screamed.
"Beast?" Gu Yihan suppressed a laugh as she looked at the man who had called her name.
Hu Shan was furious and glared at him angrily: "Are you crazy?!"
Qin Shou leered at Hu Shan: "Isn't this because I wanted to see what Gu Meimei looks like?"
Gu Yihan's face turned cold upon hearing this. If she hadn't misheard, the person had called her name.
Qin Shou didn't care about Gu Yihan's expression and said with a smile, "Sister Gu, I am your brother-in-law."
Hu Shan's eyes widened in disbelief. "Xiao Han, do you know this street hustler's wife, Gu Meng?"
Gu Yihan said expressionlessly, "I don't know her."
Qin Shou didn't care about Gu Yihan's attitude; he just wanted to find a free nanny to take care of his wife during her postpartum period.
She smiled and said, "Your sister is pregnant, and she asked me to come and ask Sister Gu when Grandma can come to stay at our house for a couple of days, so that we younger generation can show our filial piety."
A hint of displeasure flashed in Gu Yihan's eyes. Without even glancing at Qin Shou, she greeted Hu Shan and rode her bicycle towards the family compound.
Qin Shou watched Gu Yihan's departing figure, his eyes narrowing slightly. No rush, Gu Meng is only three months pregnant anyway.
